I start making misscuts every time my lovely wife comes and talks to me 😯 I tell people I'm solving two huge puzzles every time there is a log on the mill! You do math from the top down for the first two cuts and then immediately switch to doing math from the deck up! Very satisfying when you get it right! I also love pine. I have diesel for lube on the blade; so a quick adjustment to the lube keeps the blade clean. My gloves and clothes on the other hand usually do not come out as clean!
Lovely superb Nice sawing and the timber quality of pine log is very good and the smell which you have said is coming out of the timber knots because there is a oil type of things which you will find in the knots .
Certainly are beautiful boards and I can well imagine the smell, wonderful. That's what you call a very satisfying bit of wood sawing. Congratulations.
I live in Colorado where with have lots of Beetle Kill pine. The blue stain is sometimes very beautiful, you can build some extraordinary furniture with it. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Congratulations, it looks like you are stacking your log piles separated. I like seeing logs sit off the ground, it makes for less dirt in the bark and it allows the logs to dry better. Keep us the good videos, love them all.
Man those are really thick slab cuts. There are some beautiful, clear, strong 4/4 boards being thrown away. Edging sucks, but you don’t waste nearly as much good useable lumber. Try taking a shallower initial cut, then cut a 4/4 to get down to your target.
It's easy to find the bad tooth on your blade, turn by hand, with the blade just touching the cant . When that tooth comes by it digs in. Just bend back. Much nicer lumber.
I've handled a lot of heavy logs with my Kubota L35 which is about the same size as your machine. As long as you are slow and easy your machine will be fine. If it can lift it then it was designed to handle it. The main thing is to have enough counterweight on the back end.
I do wonder if cutting the curved excess on all four side before cutting the boards would allow a couple less uses of the tractor. Getting the log squared up before beginning to cut the boards. Might save one or two uses of the tractor. Might be a little more efficient and by the end of the day make for a little less work. Terry
I always wondered about that myself how come the blade doesn’t get pinched in between the layers of wood it makes sense now. Trust me I can smell that fresh cut pine Just from memory.
Another great video, thanks for sharing. Too bad we don't have smell-o-vision and are able to share the smell of fresh-cut logs😊. You and the family have a safe Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
On other logs (different need) you cleaned up all four sides before processing the lumber you needed. In this video, I noticed that you cleaned up only three sides and worked down to the waste piece. Smart!
You would not have made that "mistake" if you had kept on going as you had started rather than flipping the raw stock. Let the waste piece take the "mistake".
I find that the 14 to 18 inch diameter logs are the perfect size for my mill. Great for dimensional lumber and grade sawing. Very manageable on a manual mill.

Hi . Still watching your videos. Hope you and your family enjoy a blessed Christmas day celebrating the birth of Jesus our Lord and Savior. Have a blessed and safe 2021.
I compost the sawdust along with planing shavings, then you can use it in a garden or around shrubs. Add lime to the sawdust and it composts much quicker. It takes a couple of years for it to decompose. The planing shavings can also be used for animal bedding. Pine shavings have a very nice aroma.
Here in Peru, sawdust is used as combustible for tile and ceramic furnaces. They carry the sawdust on flatbeds full of big bags from the sawmills. Many times these sawmills are 500KM away.
Perhaps, on the initial lift, after clearing the pile, lower the grapple so that it almost skids the ground. Raise it only at the last moment to get it on the mill. I had to do that many times on a forklift.
I'm planning to use them this next summer on a project. I'll probably have to speed up the drying process somehow closer to the time I need to use them. A year of air drying per inch of thickness is the general rule.
I've been sawing pine the last couple days. Biggest log was 30" at the big end, but only 10" long. Got some nice 4x6's and 1x12's. Enjoy your videos and wish you the best!
Another great video. A question, please. As I look around my farm, I see very few trees with a circumference greater than about 20". It makes me wonder if I really need the larger saw mill. Please comment. Thanks.
I'm actually glad I can't smell the wood, unfortunately pine is an asthma trigger scent for me. I prefer to breathe as well as I can to struggling to breathe at all. Not that pine is a horrible smell, just one that causes me problems. Would you ever consider moving to a Woodmizer LT 70/70W? While the hydraulics are another point that can fail they do so much of the manual work speeding up the cutting of each log.
Your Kubby got a little light in the rear end with that first log. I see you've got a new toy with that battery blower. You getting lazy in your old age?
Your not using your Kiln? White Pine? I think it’s time for a log turner. I would rather have one, in stead of auto feed? Good wood!!! 4 quarter material. You no what. Nice Mill!!!
Using $30k dollars worth of equipment and several thousand dollars worth of your labor to produce No. 4 economy grade lumber while removing 30-year-old trees from your property doesn't seem very practical.

That’s a great log! Is the rough texture due to a dull blade?
Do you have any videos discussing how to get the logs dry before milling, or how to dry the lumber after milling?

The camera might not have caught it well, but the box blade has a ballast on the back. It's a metal tube filled with concrete. Works great.

I had the same question about the sawdust.

As clean as I have seen
Do you consider a log felled in the winter to still be green?
Or is it decided by the amount of pitch in the tree?
I can see a lot of improvement in your sawmill skill over time.
Great looking boards Wes. How long will you let them dry before using them?
I'm planning to use them this next summer on a project. I'll probably have to speed up the drying process somehow closer to the time I need to use them. A year of air drying per inch of thickness is the general rule.

what type of blade and degree are you using to cut pine?

How do you set the sap in the wood? Any pine I cut ozzes sticky crap forever..
Have you used a sawmill with a MANUAL crank?
Or always Power Feed?
what do you do with the scrap that is cut off when you trim the edges?
Those blades have to cost alot how long they last the machine produces very nice lumber
Is there a reason why wood mizer put the saw dust shoot on the same side that the controls are on?
Are you still using your kiln to dry the boards your cutting?
Another great video. A question, please. As I look around my farm, I see very few trees with a circumference greater than about 20". It makes me wonder if I really need the larger saw mill. Please comment. Thanks.
it is much easier to saw small logs on a large mill than it is to saw big logs on a small mill. Just my point of view.
Salty 101 has good advice.
I'm actually glad I can't smell the wood, unfortunately pine is an asthma trigger scent for me. I prefer to breathe as well as I can to struggling to breathe at all.

Would you ever consider moving to a Woodmizer LT 70/70W? While the hydraulics are another point that can fail they do so much of the manual work speeding up the cutting of each log.
Do you sell the lumber you make or keep it for personal use?
Why is it that the boards always look smaller than what they are. The first cuts look like 3/4 not 4/4.
Nice looking log
These boards were actually about 7/8. I think I mentioned that later on in the video. Means less planing later down the road.
Right around the 8:00 min point, I spotted something weird. Is your muffler loose or was it just the camera that was wiggling.
Curious about the stripes about an inch apart at 11:23. Do they indicate a deformed or bent tooth?
Yes, or a tooth out of set.
Also possible drive belt out of adjustment.
I have a personal question. Do you have an another hourly job/profession like a lot of other you tubers?
Yeah , pour some water on it, yeah that's nice
