  • From a very rare 45rpm record release where the organ was presumably accompanied by a live drummer - this organ was built in the 1950's and was destroyed by fire in the early 1960's, although curiously featured on the cover of some Decca records featuring 84 key Mortier/Decap "Elite".

Gotta love that cymbal crash! Really makes any Mechanical Music recording come alive, doesn't it?

I always thought that the organs should have even more percussion keys like for closed hi hats and cymbals like this

@unforgettable256 or maybe when this 45 rpm was recorded, maybe they got a good view of the organ's percussion?

@ No, you can tell it's a live drummer - no organ crash cymbal sounds like that!

@@MechanicalMusicRecordings Oh, so this is a live recording along with the organ!

@@DavidBurgessMechanicalMusic Yes I believe so - either that, or it was dubbed over the organ recording in-studio, which also often seemed to happen.

Sounds rather lovely! But why was it accompanied by a live drummer? You can hear it as organ crash cymbals sound different.

For some reason from the 1950's to the 1970's, quite a few organ recordings were made with live percussionists, accordionists and even singers - I think it was to try and make the organ music less "boring" (which it already isn't!)
