Hilarious playthrough. It's genuinely fascinating to remember how DA2 had such high highs in a lot of its ideas but so many low lows where they were clearly rushed for time in development and wrapping up the messy ending. It's where EA's grubby mitts started to really make itself known with the major story content being cut up for DLC too.
I see a theme of Pongsifu rejecting characters and making them cry. Just like Jackson got rejected in the Baldurs Gate 3 video and had a waterfall stream from his lizard face. Coincidence? XD
What a lot of nay-sayers don't know is that Electronic Arts gave BioWare approximately 15 months to create Dragon Age II (Reports vary from 14 months to 16 months). Compare that to Dragon Age Origins, which had a development timeframe of four and a half years. Quality-wise, you can't compare Dragon Age II to Origins when such a glaring development time disparity exists. Yes, it's not perfect, but considering BioWare only had a little over a year to build Dragon Age II from the ground up, they did quite well.
Excuse you, DA2 is the best. It's a story not about saving the world, but trying to manage your maladjusted group of friends and keep your family alive, and you inevitably fail at both! What other game has the guts to do that?
Three things: 1) Origins was simpler, hence the basic looks. 2 opened up redesigns. 2) If you didn't play all of Origins to import, you're missing like 20% of the game. 3) Anders annoyed me too. Fenris was... So so. Isabelle is a BASTARD to keep after Act 2. Also, bonus note: Anders can save Bethany/Carver if brought with them to the Deep Roads. Else they 1) die or 2) are taken away by templars if left behind. I always kept them alive, felt like the only right choice. And I'm serious about importing saves, the final boss is pretty epic if you've recruited all possible characters.
Dragon age 2 is the best 3/10 I've ever played is the best explanation I have for it, it's full of bugs, reused assets, there is next to no story besides "year happens, short, contained story happens in year that kinda effects the next year and acts as more of a build up for it, year ends" and I can 100% explain why alot of people hate it and consider it the worst of the series, yet it just has this.... charm about it that I am completely weak to. I have played it as many times as I have origins, everytime I beat Origins I immediately boot up DA2 and continue that world save, this cannot be said for Inquisition.
Bioware was a smaller company back then, but they still made DA2 in a year, all the while working on two higher-priority projects. They don't make cracked gamedevs like that anymore.
Pong played Tali's romance in Mass Effect, Morrigan in DAO and Merril now, cute, evil cute, blood magic cute, in DAI I bet it will be Cassandra. (Or play female elf and try Sera's romance for some angst)
The one thing I liked about DA2 is Friendship/Rivalry system, like, for example, for me the best course of action was always rivalling Anders and Merrill because of their insane ideas.
I, unironically, like this game. Hate that encounters always in the same places, it is boring in some ways, yes. But the core story, the more intimate setting with more choice and consequence type of experiment is interesting. Though, this should have been a spin off or side project maybe. I get that it is not the follow up one expects after the Origins.
Story wise, I really like Dragon age 2, the characters, the fact you can hear your character talk. But I wont denied that there are a lot of problems. For context, I played Dragon Age 2 first as my PC only had an old graphic card and little RAM. But when I was able to upgrated it, the first thing I did was play the first one, and then, what I read on internet was apparent. From giant maps, multiple dialog choices, big aoe spells, multiple armors and weapons, skill trees that made more sense, etc After playing 1, couldn't go back to 2
The story is great. It's a shame they didn't have more time fleshing out the world and especially the third act, but I still enjoy it specifically for the more personal stakes in the story and the followers. It's the only game where it feels like the followers exist outside of you and their have their own motives and interpersonal relationships. They're not there to put their differences aside for the greater good. If they don't like you, you'll know.
This game could have been sooo good if they had more development time, it's really a shame cause the story has amazing potential. I still like da2 for what it is but it's hard to overlook its many flaws. Now I treat it more like an inquisition prequel
Thank you! I've been telling people for ages the Templar are right in this game. Every mage, even when you're saving them and they don't need to use blood magic just use it anyway. Even the head mage guy, when you're helping them and clearly winning just goes "Well I might as well use even more blood magic and demon deals than everyone else"
@@xadierz1816 The problem is is that they poison the water somewhat too. In DA2 you almost exclusively meet mages who are causing issues or are willing to become an issue if pressed. In DA1 you get to see what happens when just 1 mage goes off the rails and the chain effect this can have in the circle mission, so you already understand the reasoning behind the Templars harsh nature. Are there bad Templars? Absolutely, but you're shown plenty of decent ones too. Less so than the mages. In DA3 you have the issue of siding with either side and the other joins Corypheus, the Templar are corrupted by Red Lyrium and go insane, whereas the Mages willingly side with him.
@@bongosmcdongos4190 That doesn't change the fact that he did, whether its bad writing or not he still did it, ultimately proving the Templars right. This also doesn't change DA3 where the Mages willingly join the main bad guy if you go against them.

Merrill, Morrigan, Liliana, and Cassandra are my top Dragon Age waifus. Would love a remaster of Dragon Age: Origins and 2.

Beat this game on nightmare finally last year, after trying on and off for for a few years. Actually unironically had fun, despite all the flaws with DA2
It's funny how Veilguard makes even 2 look better in comparison. It had a good story, sure, but suffered a whole myriad of problems too (copypasted dungeons, enemy spam, to name a few). People back then also didn't like how different it was to Origins (tone, gameplay, forced to play as an "established" character).
I've been on dragons age trilogy these days and has been so much fun, i had to go to mass effect too to stays on bioware games.. happy to see good ppl playing it too
Let’s not get this twisted. DA2 was worse in a lot of ways than Origins, and the monetization of DLC was out of control. The recycled assets and maps was atrocious. But yes, it’s better than Inquisition and much better than Wailguard.
I remember trying to romance Merrill my first playthrough and her just not seeming all the interested so I gave up and started romancing Isabela, only to have her threaten to cut my “coin purse” off if I didn’t go back to Merrill. Good times, really stuck with me.
When this game came out I was the blind fan. I loved it and played it multiple times over its release month. I noticed the reused environments and said people pointing them out were “nitpicking”. Now, I fully realize this game isn’t amazing and has many, many problems. I still like it. But I can at least admit it’s kind of a crap game and was one the earlier signs of BioWare going down the poop shoot.
It's fustrating, not just the reused assets, the story too. It had such great story and character concepts, but everything feels like a first draft, and it just doesn't work.
Dragon Age 2 was the game that got me into the series tbh. Its got its flaws, but its a solid game. Just wish we could have some of the content that was cut at the last minute to meet the deadline restored. I mean, apparently, Mage Hawke was supposed to struggle with posession throughout the entire game. It was a *major* storyline that everyone on the dev team felt bad about having to remove.

I agree. I love how the game just pulls on my heart strings.
I feel like your editing skills are getting better every video
The lack of Fenris killed me, but I still really loved the video
Three things:
1) Origins was simpler, hence the basic looks.
1:37 Zevran teasing Wynne again :D
I love this small laugh at 16:40 as if you already had this joke for the video in mind when this ingame scene game up lmao.
Me too. DA:I had too much side stuff that I just gave up on and used the amulet cheat to get all skills so I wouldn't need to do them to level up
Because DA2 with all its faults was still recognizable as DA
25:38 Now that's a good pause timing.
5:20 this fantasy mod for Last of Us is pretty neat. Fantasy Joel looks cool.
your Hawke portrait is sending me LMAO I'm using it for my next DA2 playthrough
I've said it before, but your clip selection and editing abilities are simply exquisite.
NO! Please anyone except that childish bowl cut blade eared shit
Awesome to see pongsifu getting early access to new games, finally getting that recognition
The one thing I liked about DA2 is Friendship/Rivalry system, like, for example, for me the best course of action was always rivalling Anders and Merrill because of their insane ideas.
God I fucking love all the invader zim references made throughout your videos. Fuck I just love all your videos. ❤️
I can't hear that one lady's voice without having beacon of Meridia flashbacks
I, unironically, like this game. Hate that encounters always in the same places, it is boring in some ways, yes. But the core story, the more intimate setting with more choice and consequence type of experiment is interesting. Though, this should have been a spin off or side project maybe. I get that it is not the follow up one expects after the Origins.
Brother, that solo leveling statue transition was FLAWLESS
It says the video was uploaded 4 minutes ago but then pongsifu's comment is from 4 hours ago
I notice that happens quite a bit.
Typical youtube lol
Early access for Patreons
Dragon Age 2 bugs are with us still...
Even in 2024.

Oh dear that edit is so perfect.
From giant maps, multiple dialog choices, big aoe spells, multiple armors and weapons, skill trees that made more sense, etc
After playing 1, couldn't go back to 2
The story is great.
This was amazing! Missed your sense of humor dude, looking forward to the next!
Thank you! I've been telling people for ages the Templar are right in this game. Every mage, even when you're saving them and they don't need to use blood magic just use it anyway.
Even the head mage guy, when you're helping them and clearly winning just goes "Well I might as well use even more blood magic and demon deals than everyone else"
it was already a shitstorm no matter what you do anyway which kinda defeats the whole purpose of giving players a choice
Yeah it's that way because of bad writing. The devs are on record saying orsino turns at the end because they needed another boss fight.
@@bongosmcdongos4190 That doesn't change the fact that he did, whether its bad writing or not he still did it, ultimately proving the Templars right.
This also doesn't change DA3 where the Mages willingly join the main bad guy if you go against them.
@@KracenSCThere are no good Templars. Kirkwall is basically a police state and these inefective morons can't even catch people who all but wear an "I'm a blood mage" sign around their neck. They have one job and they are so bad at it a foregin mercenary and their collection of humanoid trash has to solve everything. Even in DAI the oh so great templars sit on their thumbs outside of the circle while our early game crew clean it out...
"Oh no mages and abominations are so dangerous, we nerd templars" ma'am, these lyrium snorting idiots ran the other way at the sight of a shade, while I eat abominations for breakfast.
the ringing when anders showed up was real and felt, moodious maximus my brother in anti-anders
The foot washing pan creeping out under the bed after sex broke me 😂
With as messy as things are afterward, I wouldn't think her feet would be the biggest concern.
I remember you can have a toxic romance by maxing out the rivalry instead of friendship, that was pretty interesting imo.
Ahh, you finally found some time to get back to Dragon Age! Inquisition next?
This took me way longer than I anticipated to get through and edit (hence the longer than normal gap between vids) so I'm sticking to shorter games for a bit.
@@Pongsifu If DA2 took so long then it might take a year for DA Inquistiion with all that side content and grind required to progress.
good luck - I just used Cheat Engine to speed up the progress
@@SpecShadow Yeah, DAI has so much more content. Surely it'd take even longer for Pong to play through it and edit. Oh well, can't wait for the next video!
The dead space Isaac stomp was a nice touch!
Pongsifu goes for the shy, awkward nomads with accents (Tali, Merrill). He's just like me for real. Also, maybe an unpopular opinion, but 2 is better than Inquisition.
@25:10 random box that's super out-of-place in the middle of the street just materializes all so that Anders can be sitting for this, which makes a difference in this conversation because..... uhhhh.......
The great redhead extinction in all media 😂 why do I immediately think of Triss 😢
DA2 was my first western RPG, so I have feelings for it.
This was a good blast from past.
Mages of Dragon Age: "Help, I'm being opressed!"
Also Mages of Dragon Age: "Wait, I can't run with scissors? Yelp, time to summon demons and kill people!"
Try as I might, Merrill was always the one I’d romance every single time I played. Tried Aveline and got blocked unfortunately and Isabela is alright, but you can easily lose her as a companion. Merrill, Morrigan, Liliana, and Cassandra are my top Dragon Age waifus. Would love a remaster of Dragon Age: Origins and 2.
1:20 and whoever that dev is, they are my favorite
also the Anders slander is 😭👌
I love this game a lot. It’s far from perfect in the plot and level design, but the characters were so much fun. And sarcastic hawke is the only morality I ever need
Finally, a lunchtime video
I remember being excited for a sequel to Dragon Age: Origins, so I played the demo for this game and then wrote the entire series off immediately.
Mate, if he thinks Anders is boring he *definitely* doesn't want to meet Sebastian lmao 😂
God, i remember playing DA2 when i was younger and getting absolutely demolished. I was so bad at the combat, but i loved the game overall.
I read the title as Dragons Dogma 2 and got excited but now i realize its not Dragons Dogma 2 but im still excited cause its more pongsifu :D
This is the review I didn't know I needed. The comedic genius. Unbelievable.
Something I like about DA2: The Qunari look SICK, then Inquisition absolutely NERFED them
Beat this game on nightmare finally last year, after trying on and off for for a few years. Actually unironically had fun, despite all the flaws with DA2
27:00 bro, I can´t breathe.
And I've been praying for a new pongsifu vid the past 2 days thank god
have I told you how much I love you for continuing my favorite game trilogy ❤😊
DA2 fans gotta remember to thank Veil Guard for moving them up from worst Dragon Age game.
DA2 is the unsung hero we didn't know we needed-
This
It's funny how Veilguard makes even 2 look better in comparison. It had a good story, sure, but suffered a whole myriad of problems too (copypasted dungeons, enemy spam, to name a few). People back then also didn't like how different it was to Origins (tone, gameplay, forced to play as an "established" character).
I've been on dragons age trilogy these days and has been so much fun, i had to go to mass effect too to stays on bioware games.. happy to see good ppl playing it too
28:25 **A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON**
She put the same energy both lines
Holy fuck I thought I was the only one who heard that
Dragon Age 2 Mentioned! Great video!
Let’s not get this twisted. DA2 was worse in a lot of ways than Origins, and the monetization of DLC was out of control. The recycled assets and maps was atrocious. But yes, it’s better than Inquisition and much better than Wailguard.
"The great red hair extinction in all of media"
he knows, doesn't he?
21:21 absolutely broke me. I was laughing so hard I almost choked on tears. That damn piano fx just absolutely made it
Dragon Age 2 was the game that got me into the series tbh.
Solid game in its own right, not a good sequel. Inquisition is a trash game in its own right.
Hey @Pongsifu. Love this video as I do all of them. But I almost died from the eye stare at 5:11. I laughed so hard my wife and daughter got angry and threatened to murder me in my sleep.
the lack of edgy elf boy is causing maximum damage... im a simple one... im weak...
I absolutely LOVED this dive into memories
Mfw isabela makes sex joke for the 9 millionionith time 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I hate her so fucking much
9:35 bro the edit with Carter after u said I don’t need him has me dying every time 😂
Man I got so much nostalgia for dragon age 2. Even as the perceivably weakest entry, I still love it. Especially like how much shit the party members talk to each other lol.
goddamn I love this guys edits!
