If this isn't 10 minutes of life-affirming, really incredible music, I don't know what to tell you. That much talent within one studio is goddamn joyous.
Musicians crossing the Atlantic in either direction will keep the good old folk traditions from Scotland,Ireland,England and Wales alive.Musical collaborations like this one are great."The sky is the limit"
Greatest band of all time. So cool to see them building a track in the studio. And Steve is just so on fire with passion and talent. These two are perfect together. Amazing.
My dad was a Vietnam era draftee. I couldn’t be prouder of those guys! The politicians lost that war not the GIs. Everyone please remember that. They answered the call in spite of the political stupidness.
Oh, this is king! Thanks for sharing. I have it on a VHS tape somewhere. I have such a big respect for Pogues and Steve Earle. They are ALL big musicians. Thanks!
This is great, thanks so much for posting this Video. I had no idea they could play so many instruments, these guys can play anything. One of my favorite Steve Earle songs, the pogues made it magical.
love this behind the scenes stuff from the copperhead road album this song is how I heard about the poques Shane Macgowan and steve in the same room wow!!!!!!!!!!
I see 4 people don't know about good songwriting. Sorry folks, this is one of my favorite songs. Reminds me of my dad who I lost last year. That part about "no one here maybe nobody knows about a place called Vietnam". That was my dad.
ive seen em in dublin the past 4 years in a row at xmas time. you will not regret it!!!! awesome awesome stuff. incredible atmosphere. go for it. definitely.
Pretty sure he'd admit it too..he's never been shy about his past. It was impressive to see such a young musician at the time so commanding around legends like the Pogues!
so damn good, thanks so mxuh for sharing this magical video. I never knew the story behind this track and its so awesome to see all the guys putting it together. The Pogues forever
Wow, impressive indeed! I have seen a platinum LP of this on a wall as I stayed with Custer twice for a couple of weeks or so (he has one of course), so even that was impressive to see! Seeing what you have would be amazing. I'm assuming Mim's being your surname relates to Stacey Earle Mims in some way?
@@RichBaxterMusic well yeah but ironically she was actually married to a Mims of no relation. From my understanding it was explained to me bc I was confused too. My grandmother was a Earle. I was baptized at Earles chapel as a kid same as Stacey and Steve and where JT was laid to rest. If you've heard Elijah'schurch pretty much every thing is accurate in that song down to Ragan and the part about tomatoes and the peaches were my grandads farm he was referring to. [but plenty of other stuff grows too it's a high iron content in the soil]. It has the longest running Sunday service in Texas. I still go to Sunday service out there when I can. But I believe my brother got the original song written out ( shoot me a email I'll show u. It's cool has some stuff crossed out and different things that alnost were in the song) from Steve's great aunt who was his biggest fan also. I remember Steve had a interview in penthouse right before copperhead road and she would get any that he did. haha. She went through and colored clothes on the nude models . Lol. But it is cool that it's a UK plaque with that song , even though it resides in Texas now.
@@danielmims8467 I'd definitely love to see it, especially that its in a UK plaque too as I am from the UK. Not sure how to send emails from info in UA-cam though?
"Now I'm standin' on a runway in San Diego couple purple hearts,,, move a little slow,,, there's nobody here maybe nobody knows,, bout a place called Vietnam"
What a great video. Good to see the whole band on form. I'd like to know if his banjo was included. People forget like most the other pogues he was a multiple instrumentalist. Anyone who doubts Shanes wider musical abilities should check out his first band The Nip(s/ple errectors).
interesting..this had to be right after "If I should Fall from Grace with GOd" came out, arguably the Pogues biggest commercial success...produced in part by Steve Lillywhite,...and here he is again for this...
Yeah. There's a certain hyper awareness that comes forth especially under the context of an out there front back yard junk dog leaper for the round down the way, just a little further, over there by da road. Hey That There's Copperhead Road. Steve Earle is truly an American Music Singer Song writing Player of Songs That Resonate.
good stuff....leave it up to my friend Rich to always find the best...and, how much better can you get than Steve Earle??? i like the Pogues, they did a good job with this, but, hey, it will always be Steve's song!!
Shit, it's mine too. Good thing I didn't get tickets in advance this Christmas, though, as I only went and came down with the bloody 'flu. It'll happen soon, though, God willing.
Atonishingly good songwriting and the perfect production decision with the pogues & Lillywhite. You can believe it from the very first line. BTW, Is Steve Earl is drinking FOSTERS!! worlds worst beer!
@baseball25player you may find it hard to believe but the majority of Canadians think the same. We just thing the proper balance of government and individual control (tax reform) ensures that small - medium size businesses thrive
I was the engineer on that session, the skinny guy behind the console. I had hair in those days :)
Chris Birkett Music loving you for sharing that !!
Saludos desde Michoacán, México. Happy days, wasn't it?
Chris Birkett Music god that must have been incredible working with this bunch 😂😂 great stuff
cool
Brilliant mate
Pogues and Steve Earle?!?! That this exists gives me hope.
Except that they didn't give Shane a singing part. Fuck Steve Earle.
If you're a fan, how did you not know?
You knew about it 10 years before me!
If this isn't 10 minutes of life-affirming, really incredible music, I don't know what to tell you. That much talent within one studio is goddamn joyous.
Totally!

Irish music, USA singer and Australian beer...it had to be a winner!
Earle and the Pogues.... a match made in Celtic heaven.... Copperhead Road and Johnny Come Lately are 2 of Earles liveliest if not best...
It is a great match... but they didn't play on Copperhead Road... just this song.
devils right hand , along with the one about the rain came down
those are also great
Greatest band of all time. So cool to see them building a track in the studio. And Steve is just so on fire with passion and talent. These two are perfect together. Amazing.
And Shane shows up! Priceless
❤ just awesome…rest well Shane and Justin .
love the pogues, love steve earle, love this song. and love steve's metallica shirt! haha.
Two of my favorite acts together, making awesome music.I love it.
WHO KNEW??? Steve sounds so young. Life's been hard on a lot of us.
My dad was a Vietnam era draftee. I couldn’t be prouder of those guys! The politicians lost that war not the GIs. Everyone please remember that. They answered the call in spite of the political stupidness.
Cheers to that

Best band ever. Saw Spider, James & Jim on May 3rd in London.
Love this thank you great to see , Rip Shane .
Musical genius. Pure and simple.
I see 4 people don't know about good songwriting. Sorry folks, this is one of my favorite songs. Reminds me of my dad who I lost last year. That part about "no one here maybe nobody knows about a place called Vietnam". That was my dad.

Shane and Steve. Does it get any finer?!!!✨
Man...Shane MacGowan and Steve Earle, two great songwriters and party animals..they must have had fun together!
Nah, Steve could never keep up.
Chris Birkett recorded this song with Steve Earle and the Pogues in London while working with Steve on an album called Copperhead Road.
Love seeing how it’s done
One "big smile" song, when sailing down the waves! Awesome.
so damn good, thanks so mxuh for sharing this magical video. I never knew the story behind this track and its so awesome to see all the guys putting it together. The Pogues forever
A great song will always be a great song, this is one of them.
From a Canadian,I remember bumping into them @ the elephants head pub & the Devonshire in Camden Town, London
Absolutely priceless!Thank you!
Great footage. Great track.
My brother has the original piece of paper that Steve wrote this song on. Hangs under one of the platinum plaques from UK release of copperhead road.

Amazing how young they all look.
"Now I'm standin' on a runway in San Diego couple purple hearts,,, move a little slow,,, there's nobody here maybe nobody knows,, bout a place called Vietnam"
The finished product sounds so good ! Wonder if they ever used Shane's banjo;)

Love it
Guys this about the music. Lord it is good,

If Steve gets any higher he will run out of coke. But he's ok now & interesting clip buddy! I'm sure there was some good times went down!!

Good stuff.
still have not seen the pogues live. #1 on MY TO DO LIST.

I think its from a documentary about The Pogues but I can't remember what it was called. It was on TV and I recorded it years ago.
First album to getvme into Earle after already being a pogues fan....
yeah he's jacked to the max
Great to watch this in conception and birth. Really good.
My two favourite music groups. god does exist

Would love to hear just Earle, the banjo and the Brit jamming to the theme of JCL.
Good ol' Frank Murray with the beard sittin at the desk!!
He WAS high as hell. Not anymore. He's a hardcore 12 stepper now, and has been for many years.
Makes me feel like smoking
RIP Shane!
interesting..this had to be right after "If I should Fall from Grace with GOd" came out, arguably the Pogues biggest commercial success...produced in part by Steve Lillywhite,...and here he is again for this...
@hughhill
As much as Shane is ever really anywhere, God love him.
For most of the 1980's and eealry 90's.
Nice!
Nice cameo by Buddy Holly...
You can't keep a good man down.
anybody figure out what this documentary was called yet. i'd like to get the whole thing

Digging that Damage Inc. Metallica shirt Steve is wearing.
I like the fact that Steve wears a Metallica shirt :P
Really interesting footage. Just good cunts :-)
Is that Shane Macgowan drinking coffee? Amazing...
Buckfast
good stuff....leave it up to my friend Rich to always find the best...and, how much better can you get than Steve Earle??? i like the Pogues, they did a good job with this, but, hey, it will always be Steve's song!!
this song is directly ripped from 'turkey in the straw' .
WHAT GENIUS?! hahahahaa!
Shane's here!
@univox100 I lol'd @ chicken hawk. What a great phrase.
Shit, it's mine too. Good thing I didn't get tickets in advance this Christmas, though, as I only went and came down with the bloody 'flu. It'll happen soon, though, God willing.
I am Kilrain, I'm a fightin' man
And I come from County Clare
But the Brits would hang me for a Fenian
So I took my leave of there.
Atonishingly good songwriting and the perfect production decision with the pogues & Lillywhite. You can believe it from the very first line.
BTW, Is Steve Earl is drinking FOSTERS!! worlds worst beer!
This is like a parolee hanging out with criminals.

The whistle and the flute sound similar
Why is the video not available
On device? Makes no sense
metallica shirts are still stylish.
