In my opinion is that her food source is not good. Or is no longer good. That drives her to act. Kaia don't know how much food Karl brings. She decides based on her own situation. the parents have different foraging areas

She doesn't seem too particular about which one gets eliminated. Always sad to see.
Eeeeesh. I thought the chicks were in the clear at this stage. If there's one hope, it's with the difficulty she had lifting even the smallest. Although I've seen larger ones tossed out in other nests.

That littlest one is obviously traumatized.. There just isn't enough food for all of them. These storks are endangered.. I hope there is intervention help available. My prayers for this beautiful family. Thank you Liznm for sharing this💖 Littlest baby won't even eat😔

I hate seeing this and if I were able to be below to rescue, you could bet your sweet butt I’d want to. Do they eliminate because the bird is sick or to better feed the others?

Liznm, I think that your title is off. It looks like the timestamp was 16:44, which would have been 4:44 pm.
I’m afraid that one of them will not be in the nest much longer. The smallest seems the most likely, but Kaia also went after another one briefly, so who knows?
What is that noise one of the storks makes right at the beginning, about ten seconds in? It’s sounds like one of them says “roar”. So weird! These birds freak me out.
On fruska gora there are black storks
Always wondered why they fed them and then kill them… Guess their food ends up in their belly in the end anyway but I see most of them toss them out. I don’t think I’ll ever understand nature lol
3 is still too many to be fed
I don’t think that’s the problem. I think it’s a fatal flaw with them and largely why they’re dying out.
Is a stork mother more likely to do the “ eliminating” rather than the father?

as far as i've seen, its only the mother that does it
Although when adult Storks that are intruders, both male and female will kill tHa storklets and/or parents of tHa nest; if given tHa chance!
Maybe she was testing to see if that baby was unhealthy by seeing it was too light to live? I dunno

Just think...once these stocklets are grow up, they'll do the same thing to their offsprings...and the cycle repeats
Is pretty crazy how much food they need. I’ll watch one feeding and one little storklet will gobble down several fish then the same day eat more.
yeah they need to adapt by learning to eat less or they won't be fit to survive.

Yeah, Apparently their digestive system is fast! From what I've observed by watching other storklets... They seem to be able to take a lot of abuse, making them resilient if no internal or brain/airway damage has taken place.
