once more I have had to bid goodbye to Vietnam and Singapore, so I could return to my land of birth. Often times I find myself wondering if I am shaped by my surroundings, but then my complex kicks in and I decide that it is I who shapes THE SURROUNDINGS.

It’s great you brought this to light, it’s best to encourage someone’s natural skin tone. To all of you out there wishing you look paler, you are fine! Don’t try to appease someone with high standards, they just get higher. It’s not easy to be proud of what you look like, self love is a long journey sometimes. Hang in there!
In western countries, they like to use 4 shades darker and a lot of tanning. They hate their fair skin saying they look like ghost. Their faces would be unevenly dark and orange from tanning and then their neck and hands would be hella white.
People only shade Asians for being not satisfied with their own skin color but it’s no different anywhere else’s.
It's basically like this in all asian countries lol, for some reason everybody here trying to become as white as possible

I grew up pale as Dracula, and people just assumed I was always sick. I was encouraged to aim for a nice healthy tan - the kind that causes skin cancer - if at all possible.
I think they just wanted to see if I could survive in direct sunlight.
