Thanks a lot buddy, i don't know how this great comment only got this number of like...anyway. greetings ✌️👍
no homo but ily for this
If John Cena had a baby with Chris Pratt, I think you'd be the result.
Lol
It's Chris Cena.
John Pratt
That’s racist
I was thinking the same way lmao
I'm gonna do farmers walks at planet fitness.
I go to a pretty regular gym, it has good equipment though...which no one uses except me. I do farmers walks all the time there and man, the looks I get from the guys curling, "Bro should do some proper training..he should hit the streets if he wants to walk around". hah
@@BlueDemon77 how do you not rage at that statement?
Walk on your toes while doing it It's a great calf workout
@@BlueDemon77 Same here, doing Farmer Walks with every workout. I seem to be the only one who does it. I don't give a fck, it works my grip strength (it is what gives first), my traps, triceps etc. Also ending every workout doing face-pulls (Jeff will be happy).
You do get some strange looks ... though when people see the weight on the end of the dumbbell they tend to quiet down a bit. Must say it didn't take long for my traps to enlarge doing walks, even if grip is what goes first.
Apparently that newspaper trick is some really old school stuff. A book called "Illustrated Hints for Health and Strength for Busy People", written by Adrian Peter Schmidt, features an exercise where you squeeze paper balls in your fists repeatedly to gain grip strength and obviously you'd have to crumple the paper first. And this book was published in 1901! I found out about this from an Art of Manliness article called "Odd Exercises for Physical Vigor: An Oldtime Strongman’s 15-Minute Morning Routine".
Hahah that is awesome man, I had no idea!
Yeah well makes me wonder how old the exercise really is and who thought of it first. Who knows maybe it's been around as long as news papers themselves and has been since passed around among people interested in strength training!
I honestly bet it has!
Extremely solid advice. As a rock climber, I also highly recommend rice bucket workouts. There's a ton of good stuff all over youtube, just search for it. Forearms respond best to high volume, and the rice bucket gives you just that (it's why farmers walks work so well). Also most importantly it works the entire forearm, including the often neglected extensor muscles, to give you a more balanced overall forearm.
Absolutely man, i have used them before! They are awesome!
As a fellow old guy, I appreciate when Brian says he "tapes" his videos haha. Archaic terminology for the younger viewers.
Hahaha man, I am so old...What happened to me!
+Brian Alsruhe I'm in my 40s. getting older sucks, but it beats the alternative!
This is true!
+Brian Alsruhe ha ha Conan says that Crom gives us only life and strength, and the rest is up to us. I AIN'T DEAD YET. ha ha!
Hahaha
You remind me of john cena
I get that a lot!
John Doe rumor has it, that they were on the same Seal team! but all they can say is no comment. lol
Hahaha i mentioned it on the Podcast...maybe he will hear it and get interested haha!
I'm 6 foot, 238lbs currently
Sure thing!
so thankful that omar had you on his channel, definitely one of the most underrated strength channels out there. love your stuff!
Great video and tips. As a side note, my grandfather was a baker and from years of kneading dough with his bare hands his grip strength was incredible. He was also very strong from lifting heavy sacks of flour and sugar throughout the day , everyday. Seriously though, even at the age of 70+ he could easily crush your hand in a handshake and not even know he was doing it. jajaja.
As a climber-turned-weightlifter, this video was great. Solid stuff, as always. Keep up the good work dude.
PS: You can make your own grenades with softballs and bolts. I've got a set at home that I've been using forever, and even if you try to cheat with the laces you're still going to fry your forearms.
That is an awesome tip man! I had seen that, I have no idea why i didn't think of it for the video! Way to bring that in there man! Thank you so much!
dude! I was going to try and cast some out of concrete with imbedded eye bolts and hooks. that softball idea is much better!
Dude, your channel is phenomenal. I'm just happy to try to give back, even the tiniest way that I can.
Thanks man, i really appreciate that!
By far the best advise on anything and everything! Thank you Brian!
another good way to use the newspaper to add grip strength is to start a fire with the crumpled paper, add coal or coke and start blacksmithing. the hammers may only weigh a couple of pounds but will humble you quickly. plus you will gain a skill and make cool stuff.
Dude i would LOVE to do that!
Brian Alsruhe it's a lot of fun and very rewarding. like anything else though it's a skill and takes patience at the beginning
@@brandonmcbride2170 wtf
You're a beast! I just started lifting weights about an year ago and I'm a normal person with a desk job and have discovered my love for lifting. I won't be a competitor anytime in life but I just enjoy myself doing this. I don't know if much of your techniques help me as they look to target advanced power lifters but I do pick all the things you mention in your videos and love the way you put them. Thank you so much for your work while being busy preparing for your nationals. May you have best of the health for coming days and get stronger as you desire! You are a true inspiration for me. ~Good luck.
finally got the chance to watch the video. Brian, you humor and banter is back better than ever! it was excellent to see you having fun in Cali and I will watch everything you put out, but it's great to have you front and center again, where you belong!
That is awesome man, thank you!

Thanks man, I am really happy about it!
New to your channel and loving your humorous directions!
Pretty good video, I picked up some things I didn't know, I'm not specifically into strong man but always want to try different lifting techniques for overall development, I subbed
This is so cool; I have always had naturally good grip strength and I am now going to make it even better! Thanks.
Yes!! Thank You for the tips!!! I've been needing to get my grip strength up!!
Glad it was helpful brother!
Really useful video! Thanks!
The quality of your content is getting crazy man ! I'm glad you're getting more and more subscribers ! Well deserved. I hope to see your channel blow up in the near future !
That is an awesome thing to say, thank you!
Good stuff! Lately, every time I watch one of your videos your subs have gone up by like 1,000 from the day or two before. Looks like you're going to hit 20,000 subs by the end of the week...congrats Brian!
Man that would be amazing, i REALLY hope that happens!
Thank you for the tips!
Brian great video love it ....i have great grip strenght and have a good move to add...put on dish washing gloves one size too small and work on opening up and extending hand fully open....this helps keep your hands from cramping up from all the crush work your hands get
That is a great tip man, thank you!
Brian, thanks for the tip about using the Fat Gripz. I've been doing Farmers Walk with dumbbells for a few weeks now and have been making steady progress.
Then, last week, I threw the Fat Gripz on the dumbells.
Wow! My forearms were screaming at the end of the set. It was pretty awesome.
I'm not even a strongman but i just freaking love you and your content man!
Hahah that is awesome man, thank you!
Man, thanks for all these wicked vids! I'm a huge fan of the Farmers Walk too. My gym doesn't have the implements, and dumbells cap at 110. I started using a trap bar, and can load 4+ plates per side and seems to work ok.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks fro watching them man!
liked before ad finished playing. your just a good guy Brian
Hahah thanks for doing that man, i really appreciate it!
I love the Brian Shaw shade at the end. That grip strength episode was great.
very interesting/educationnal video, i love it. You style is also very fun(fade to black and white) and help to keep the pace. Some people video ends up like hearing someone reading the back of a cereal box and its really not your case. Good stuff :)
I have to do grip training tomorrow, I will try some of these. Very nice ideas. Great content!
Thanks so much for checking it out!
I have done 50% of these things and they definitely helped. I am going to try out the other ones I haven't tried over the coming months. Additionally something else I have done that worked probably even fast was just double overhand deadlifts. Go as heavy as you can with that grip then switch over to hook or mixed grip to finish and over time you find you are able to handle more and more weight with the double overhand grip.
good stuff here. look forward to checking out more of your videos
Thanks for doing that man!
awesome video. first one I've ever watched of yours, and now because of a newspaper I'm hooked
Hahah that's awesome man, thanks!
you just earned a subscriber....thank Mark Bell and Alan Thrall... you do a great job of explaining to the guys out there that are not 100% on board with you knowledge level ,,Great enunciation too
That is awesome man, thank you so much!
Love the video! Don't know how to say your name but you just earned another loyal viewer!
Awesome content mate! 👌
Thanks brother!
the newspaper one is genius. thanks brian, stay safe mate.
Great video! Just the other day, I started doing farmers walks with plates to strengthen my grip. Was wondering if anybody else did those!
You make incredible videos man, more people should definitely be watching you.
I wish strongman was a more popular sport.
Hahah thanks man and hopefully they will in time!
Hi Brian, thanks for another great video. Great timing as I joined a gym focused on strongman and powerlifting last week, so I will have access to some of equipment mentioned like farmers walk handles, yokes etc. So I can test out some of the ideas mentioned here! I also found it very useful that you mentioned how you programmed farmers walks in - as this was going to be a question i asked haha. Thanks again
Hahaha you would not have been the only one my friend! And that is awesome about the gym, you will love it!
brian, i noticed you didnt use straps while doing deadlifts at super training.. youre the man. my grip has went up from doing pull ups after watching your videos. you said to squeeze the hell out of the pull u[p bar and it makde a huge difference. focusing on squeezing while lifting instead of just lifting helped me out alot. ill do all the things in this vid also. keep it up man
That is awesome man, thank you!
great stuff! thanks from Uruguay!
Thanks fro watching it man!
good thing had this dude discovered from allans channel awesome contents
That is awesome! thanks for checking it out!
I've found dead hangs as a finisher of every workout works really well plus gives a really nice post workout stretch. Easy enough to progress by adding weight as well
I have a pull up bar in the doorway. Dead hangs are just nice to do throughout the day. As I get older, I appreciate them more.
Good video. Thank you for uploading
Favorited! Gonna start working my grip more because why not.
Hahah thanks man!
I swear the other day you just broke 15k subs and now you're nearly at 20k! that's shooting up nicely :D well done man
Hahah thanks man, it is going well right now!
really, really good video!
The paper-trick works !!!! Thanks Brian for this vid! Lots of inspiration. I have work to do😉👊✌️
That is awesome brother, thank you!
awesome man hope you made tons of new friends out in Cali
I definitely did man. You guys over there are strong and everyone was super cool to me as the outsider!
Awesome videos that inspired me to start my own channel. Keep up the great work !!!
That's awesome man, i will have to check it out!
Brian Alsruhe awww thanks bro 😱😱
Sure thing man!
Fill a bucket with water and put a towel in it. Take the wet towel and wring out the water by squeezing and twisting, repeat until you can't do it anymore. Put the effort into it and your hands and forearms will definitely let you know! Thanks for all you do Brian, love the videos.
Great suggestion man, thank you!
Good stuff thanks sir! Doing the news paper now!
Good stuff, love the newspaper suggestion....sometimes it's the simple things that work the best. Thanks
It works amazingly well man and thank you so much!
The grip sandwich! I like that one and I will incorporate that into my regular workouts.
I've done a 600lb trap bar farmers walk for a few feet without straps. Definitely tested my grip strength. Also like to use Captain of Crush Grippers to develop grip strength. I can close the 2.5 gripper for 17 reps and the number 2 gripper for over 20 reps. Since I got brutally strong on Captain of Crush grippers my grip is never a weakness for me. I eventually want to close the number 3 gripper and then for reps. Also what helped my grip are weighted chinups and pullups without straps or chalk
Always quality broski
Thank so much brother!
I am totally going to add these to my training, especially the newspaper one! 😱
A good method I found as a beginner was to use the hook grip on pull ups, and to then curl your body weight with your fingers. Heavy dumbell rows with hook grip is gonna make your grip strong also.
I use fat gripz for dumbell farmer walks. they are insane! great stuff man! SUBBED!
That is awesome and thanks for doing that man!
Helpful thanks.
Thanks for watching man!
Amazing!!!
Thanks so much!
Great video with creative and interesting grip exercises . People under estimate how important hand and finger grip strength really is.. Strong hand grip enhances most if not all gym related exercises and good strong grip is related to the forearm which is invaluable to elderly people just doing the very basic everyday activities. My mother used to have this stiff but pliable ball that was putty like consistency and she squeezed it all the time, and if anyone in the house needed a jar of pickles opened she was the who they ask to do.
When I used to do a lot of metal scraping one of the items I used to scrap were lawn tractor batteries. Without ever putting much thought into it I would grab the top of the battery with my hand which would barely fit around it and lift it that way. one in each hand. Then I would walk it over to the trailer and place it in there. Yes it was hard to grip but I was being lazy and thought it would be a lot less walking to take two at a time like this. Never thought about it but I'm sure this was working grip strength and it did make my arms on fire after a while. This is just one example of things I would carry like this. Still do things like this today without thinking about it because my goal is how to carry the most per trip.
Came here after seeing you with Alan. Great content. Subbed.
Thanks for doing that man, i really appreciate it!
great video, love the flags
That's awesome, thank you!
I like dead hangs for time. I add weight when I get to one minute or more. I also make the bar thicker using PVC. Just some ideas. Good video. thanks.
Finally a reason to use the useless flyers I get! Awesome video Brian! Glad you made it home safe and sound
Thank you Chelsey!
Saw your channel from Alan thralls videos and i cant believe you only have 17k subs, keep it up and you are gonna be at 1 mill no time.
Man, that would be an absolute dream! i REALLy hope you are right!
One of the best natural bodybuilder
love it thx
Good tips! Gyro balls work way good too!
Thanks man and someone else mentioned that as well!
My current grip strength go-to is the DIY farmers handles I've made with buckets on the end for my bootcamps. Fill em either with bricks or water and watch people struggle haha. But they all love it!!
That is awesome man!
Man. The newspaper crumple is VERY old school. Great video brother!!
Hahah yea, i had no idea!
How i like to work my grip is when racking my weights I carry the plates with 1 hand and when I do assistance movements or warming up for deadlifts/pull ups I only use 3 or two fingers and doing rows with a tumblers grip. As well as through the day if I see something moderately hard to grip I try to do it.
Great tips as always! And the news paper one i actually knew ;)
That is awesome, i had no idea!
Effin brilliant! Great video as always. I'm going to invest in some grenade grips asap!
That is awesome man and thank you!
Good stuff! And you had me laughing several times.
Super inspirational man. You and Goggins should do president/ vice president for 4 terms
this video is great
Thanks man!
I have started doing sled pulls recently and have been using my imagination on the handles. I got a 13 ton shackle, looking for a 35 ton that'll weigh about 40 lbs. I will use a 20lb kettle bell for now. Using an awkward, wide, or heavy handle works well to burn out my grip as fast as my legs give out.
I'm really glad for you concerning the ratio thumbs up/number of views!
Not a bad one.
Thanks man, I just try to attract positive people. Seems to be working...some of the time! Hahaha
