This video is so freaking stunning and brilliant as a metaphore of pop business. Artistically this was one of the highest points of Rainbow's career along with 2 or 3 more songs. Downloaded their complete discography like a year ago but sadly the good songs DSP gave them were really few. I'm pissed.
Honestly, DSP produces the greatest K-pop songs, artists and concepts. I've been listening to a lot of Kara, Rainbow and SS501 songs and the songs, outfits and concepts are even greater than those who YG, SM or any other entertainment agency produces. But DSP doesn't promote their artists that much, even though they have the best of the best. DSP artists deserve more exposure in terms of popularity.
In the video, the girls represent idols, who are in a constant struggle with maintaining their "flawless figures" to please the company and fans, represented by the older woman who is measuring and consantly watching them to make sure they are in shape. The sweets represent the girls' desires for eating anything and everything they want, but cannot have for the sake of maintaining their figure. The diamonds represent beauty and the figure they wish to maintain for the happiness of others. The girls decide that they no longer care about what others want from them, so they eat all the sweets they wish, thus giving up beauty or the diamonds, that is why they are spitting them out. It can be seen that all of the people around them are happy with just beauty, or the diamonds, but the girls no longer are, indulging themselves with all the sweets they wish to have.
Finally! Someone who could understood the MV (In case that this is the story) (I would give you something better than Cheering, but Internet is so limited sometimes)

My interpretation of this music video. Rainbow : Idols that addicted with cakes who, can't give up the sweets, while they have to dance and sing with sexy clothes according to their management. The old man : Consumers who observe and scrutinize idols' bodies for the whole time and pay gems for sweet cakes that idols consume. The old woman : Management that strictly measures everything of idols and make them to sing and dance with clothes the old man might like. Feeds them cakes and takes the gems, that the idols earn and become rich. Still enjoying this in summer 2015. Haters gonna hate. Instead of forcing a concept with the entire group, taking the visuals and doing this stint was a no-brainer. And no awkward English phrases used too which as a casual kpop fan, is a big welcome.
I have had this in my own personal playlist of videos for about 7 years, but hadn't watched for about a year. I forgot how sexy this one was. My glasses steamed up.
Okay so I'm watching this for the first time in a long time (I watched it a few times when it first came out). And I'm literally 98% sure this is a brothel concept. Hear me out. The old lady is the madam, and the girls are the escorts. The madam measures them and feeds them to make sure they're the typical size a customer would want so she can get the most money. After they're done pleasuring, they get paid (imagery I could be wrong on, but possibly the spitting out of jewels means they're getting paid for orally pleasuring their clients). At the end the madam is happy because her work paid off and she collects her funds, thus why she has all the jewels. She obviously gets a huge portion of the profit. I don't think its criticism of the kpop industry at all, but more like what EXID did with "Hot Pink" recently. A pretty blatant portrayal of sex workers
I can't believe anyone can watch this and not know it's a criticism/commentary right off the bat. Even as a kpop-newbie, before I read any of the excellent analysises (plural=?) in the comments below or knew much about kpop in general, I immediately recognized the lavishly-but-garishly dressed, possessive and boundary-disrespecting "Madame" as a symbol of the "mother/madame" of a prostitution-brothel. Which made the singing girls her "product for sale". That's what drew me into figuring out the full message behind the song/vid. Cute/sexy are a given in kpop; I think it's ingenius that if a group can't escape this fact (they *are* contractually bound, and remember, they get even less freedom and control than American artists do), they can at least use the attention it grabs to send an underlying message of their own underneath the catchy tune and flashy glam aspects. I thought it was glaringly obvious to anyone who actually watched the whole vid with full attention, newbie or not, that that's what they're doing here. One could only miss it if they did the visual equivalent of "skimming-reading" where they only glance at the vid every now and then for a few seconds to get a few mental pics to pair mentally with the music. Not trying to hate, but super annoyed with the haters who slut-shame them so hard. I myself struggle with snap-judgement and the patriarchal madonna/whore view foisted on me from birth, just like a lot of others. But the concept of this vid was so well done that even my Korean-cultural ignorance and wariness of overly-sexified idols caught on even when I only gave it half a chance initially, so others giving it even less a chance than that and going off on a cruel and ignorant tirade is so aggravating.
Also, I think this post may be right on the money: "This video is a commentary. Here is what this music video means, to those who are not getting it...which is apparently a lot of haters, it is a commentary on KPOP. Here are the quick beats, the sweets represent the cutesy concept, the lingere represents the sexy concept, the gems they spit out represent money, the Seungah/Woori on the couch represents fanservice, the old lady represents the ceos, the maids represent the managers and the little guy with the binoculars represents the press/paparazzi. Now let's break it down, at the start the sexy concept is surrounded by sweets, which are the cute concept. This is a commentary on how even cute concepts have sexy at the heart, which is addressed later. The next symbolism is the ceo figure happily watching the sexy concept on tv. Then you have the maids, seemingly attentive to the artist, like managers seem to be, but they are there for the company, we will get back to them. Then Seungah/Woori on the couch being fanservice like and immediatly afterwards spitting out a gem (money). Then you have the media representative guy literally looking at them through binoculars (essentially), the camera is framed by that. Then the Ceo character comes in and measures their bodies with a tape measure, which despite them engaging in the cute concept, eating the sweets, implies the sexy concept is always there. Her gripping them and them shuddering is an attack on that professional relationship. They all take a bite of ridiculous sweets (being more cutesy) and they all spit out gems (more money). The Ceo literally throws the money in the air. The media stand in, literally weighs money (gems) vs cute (the sweet) until money wins, thus explaining why they don't care if a person is good if they can say the aren't and make money. The maid/manager character finds a gem on the ground an eats it, explaining that while the managers are on the company payrole, they are still bottom feeders and want money and don't actually care about the artist. Then you have a shot of the managers and press spying on them because that is how they make money?"
I've been waiting forever on a good analysis of this video because there's no way it would have just been sexiness for the sake of sexiness. This is a really good video from them considering they do so many cute concepts and it's like they're saying that 'the audience complains about too many sexy concepts but it's what they really want so here's a sexy concept.' It seems like videos that critique the industry(Red Shoes, Drawing the Line) have become a trend.
Thank you for the insightful analysis. I tried to do likewise in English + Korean but Google ghosted my comments. It's been frustrating watching the half-wit trolls on this page. I hope this doesn't get ghosted >
I actually thought this was a new giant girl group. They really should do something with the costumes to differentiate the group members from the backup dancers...
im with you i new that four of the actual members were in this subgroup but when i watched the dancing i was like "..wait...are the rest of rainbow being back up dancers or.." they really should have had some type of costume difference from the actual members
backup dancers only have white shirts and the members have like a black corset or something. plus, backup dancers don't have those things in their legs xD
that part is supposed to be the idols you see on music shows hence why they show up on the tv screen too, So it’s supposed to look like a full group with minimal differences so you you know the official rainbow members
Too many people disliked this MV. This is how you know the people who love kpop too much become OVERLY CRITICAL. I love this MV it's sexy THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!!!!!
PREPARE FOR RANT. 1. I LOVE THE MV, yes I understand it's provocative and not everyone likes it, which is fair enough, don't like it? don't watch and don't hate. The girls are working hard to get even a slight bit f attention and now when they have some it's all negative. and y'all don't like em cute or sexy so what should they do?! I think the girls are confident enough to pull of this concept and I'll support them all the way
Wtf I became obsessed with this like beginning of 2015 but this came out beginning of 2014...I swear it came out later...I'm going crazy I cannot keep up with kpop anymore
I've been waiting for Rainbow to go back to having a sexy concept, those two cutesy songs they've had before this was so not them. Wish they will have a full group comeback soon. The only thing I disliked about this MV was the dance shots. They didn't stand out from the background dancers at all ; And there was a backup dancer with bright red hair, half the time I thought she was a member LOL.
I don't really understand the hate toward this video. This is one of the more meaningful kpop group video I ever seen. Yea I know it was like a softporn at first, but when you get past that you'll realize that it has more meaning than just cuts of girls dancing and being sad/happy/sexy/cute.
Yes, the song is great but apparently the people pulling the strings need to learn the difference between SEXY and SLUTTY - this is WAY too slutty for performers with this level of talent.
The girls look great (Hyunyoung!) but, man, I hate to say this, but I'm actually getting bored of these concepts. Kudos for not making the video red and black, but why do sexy girls always have to alternating between laying around, looking sad, and shaking their booties? I love sexy, but I'm waiting for a group that does sexy in an interesting/exciting way.

+Jonismad I think it wors as both as well as how companies make these kpop groups do these sexy concepts
*caught onto it
Also, I think this post may be right on the money:
"This video is a commentary.
Same
M
that was deep af :o thank for sharing
Can they please comeback with a concept like this? I loved this song and this sub unit is fucking killer.
tonypolk8
How did I never see this until now?
This is good. Too bad I found it way too late.
It's possible DSP wanted it to seem like a full group.
backup dancers only have white shirts and the members have like a black corset or something. plus, backup dancers don't have those things in their legs xD
they did the members have stockings XD :D ;3
that part is supposed to be the idols you see on music shows hence why they show up on the tv screen too, So it’s supposed to look like a full group with minimal differences so you you know the official rainbow members
I will never move on from this song
It is funny to find so many complaining. This is a sexy concept, and it is not bad at all. Compared to some US mv this is mild.
워메 노래 레트로 띵곡인데 뮤비컨셉은 왜 다른 영상 나와
생활관에서 원픽 영상이었음
They should definitely bring this back! Out of all of Rainbow and their subunit combined, this has one of the most highest views!
Too many people disliked this MV. This is how you know the people who love kpop too much become OVERLY CRITICAL. I love this MV it's sexy THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!!!!!
there's something called shock value...
Very good song :P much more musical than 95% of the songs that come out nowadays. The backing track is awesome
These Girls were and still are very cool 😍💝💝
This should be a hit
Say what you want but this was iconic and I want more of it.
what a masterpiece!!!
love it!
I think the girls are confident enough to pull of this concept and I'll support them all the way
The ladies look gorgeous as ever, cool mv and awesome song!
Can't wait for life performance to see the Choreograph

노래 좋은데 참 안뜨는그룹..
I was on the search for another song and accidentally came across this.... holy hecc these women are so damn beautiful???? Just WOW 👌
This song should have catapulted them to fame im pissed at how my rainbow girlies have been done wrong 😤
8 years go..legend
this is amazing! see, why couldn't this be FULL group comeback???? lol still love this though
my clueless lesbian teenager ass was streaming this 24/7 back in the day lmao
Love Rainbow I wish that they could make a comback ♡♡
I've been waiting for Rainbow to go back to having a sexy concept, those two cutesy songs they've had before this was so not them. Wish they will have a full group comeback soon. The only thing I disliked about this MV was the dance shots. They didn't stand out from the background dancers at all ; And there was a backup dancer with bright red hair, half the time I thought she was a member LOL.
This song is so catchy 🥰
Excellent beautiful fantastic wonderful
I want a Rainbow Blaxx comeback
Me too :')
No... DISBAND 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Con mẹ chúng mày
Can't believe this is 6 years ago. Still good on my ears. Lol
Me 😁
음악도 좋고 노래 좋아요 🎵 🎶
I really miss Rainbow 🥺❤
I don't really understand the hate toward this video. This is one of the more meaningful kpop group video I ever seen. Yea I know it was like a softporn at first, but when you get past that you'll realize that it has more meaning than just cuts of girls dancing and being sad/happy/sexy/cute.
이뿌닼
I liked this song!!! Rainbow Blaxx Fighting....!!
5 years and this songs is still iconic
this is one of their the best song!
Why so many dislikes?.. The song is great. -_-
Yes, the song is great but apparently the people pulling the strings need to learn the difference between SEXY and SLUTTY - this is WAY too slutty for performers with this level of talent.
Lol... no.
TheKpopGuru This is not slutty. It's PG-13 not R rated
MissTia777 I didn't say it was. o-o
TheKpopGuru americans are very sheltered and when they see this kind of thing they dislike it, sad i know :/
Love it ~~~ super catchy!
this song is actually good
i love your
Jaekyung yes indeed very nice got alot of her video though hehe^^
I think I saw the old lady in '' The Master'sun '' loooool :D
The girls look great (Hyunyoung!) but, man, I hate to say this, but I'm actually getting bored of these concepts. Kudos for not making the video red and black, but why do sexy girls always have to alternating between laying around, looking sad, and shaking their booties? I love sexy, but I'm waiting for a group that does sexy in an interesting/exciting way.
Nine Muses suit that
Spica - You Don't Love Me. Look it up.
죤나 맛있겠다 과자..랑 재케잌경이랑
