Now the self reinforcing hype AND monetization comes from youtube/spotify and the streaming services. Around this time was when iTunes started carrying kpop songs, before then they weren’t even available. So, views mattered but they were to support the monetization channels.
This is what I loved about K-pop when I first heard the genre (in 2011). K-pop was all about enjoying the moment, happiness & charisma. I don't see that anymore, idols seem to not be enjoying performing as much as before. I love old K-pop songs for this reason. K-Pop was always so refreshing back then
