When you get Firefighter I & II, you are brand new and know nothing. 10% is in class and 90% is in the field. Sure, wet stuff on the red stuff but I have never witnessed an exact scenario from the book you learn from. No time in the field, means not qualified.

Does the fire department have a charter? An a agreement prior that states they can't bring paid personnel, everybody is to be volunteer? They establish their own administration? and the town provides workers compensation insurance and relief funding? Maybe the fire trucks are owned by the membership? Maybe the fire house is owned by the membership?
The fact that this type of stuff is happening everywhere in the US when it comes to first responders is outrageous. We as a country need to do better… piss poor country.

sounds like several years ago, a newly created "fire rescue coordinator" county position. a big money man who got behind some county counsel members and got a county administrator his job, being hired into the FRC position. making all but HIS old big dollar dept play. FOLLOW THE MONEY and good old boys. All while countyr was crying "no money"
This kind of stuff has got to stop! The volunteers know what is best for the department! Big government comes in and the heck with the men & women that built that department! Put it to vote for the citizens & see where your uncertified " Chief" rates?? The county shouldn't have the right to just hire their good old boy friend & do as they please! Show some respect for the people who built the department with their own sweat & blood!
And this is why states like Michigan require FF1, FF2, fire instructor 1, fire officer 1, fire officer 2 just to be chief on any department. And I mean the certs not just attending the classes..lol
I highly doubt these guys wanted to resign and leave the volunteer firefighter shorthanded and essentially the citizens of the area you know in jeopardy but you can't ignore the vote and then force your own guy through solely because he's a friend of yours.
