  • This is how to replace a cracked screen on Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. This being said its the same process for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 as well. I couldn't find an example of the screen being fixed on the actual Tab 2 so figured I would upload mine. If you need any additional help not in this video please contact me via www.android-adv...

    Cheers dude...... one happy father and one ecstatic 8 year old daughter. Following this video and being patient I just rescued a £300.00 tablet. Absolutely no problem. One additional tip, I used a very sharp thin bladed knife to get the old screen off in one piece as ours was smahed worse than in the video. The hair dryer methoed was perfet and I was left with one tine piece of tape that peeled off easily afterwards. Thanks very much for taking the time to post this :)

    Thank you, man! Just replaced a completely shattered screen with the help of your tutorial, and now the tablet works almost better than before! By the way, the replacement screen has the Samsung logo exactly like the old one, and had the glue provided around the border.

    Well done. I've done Xooms, GalaxyTab 10.1, and iPad...but not the Galaxy Tab 2 yet. Seeing how you got the case of was helpful b/c the fist Tab has 2 screws. A couple lessons learned I'll share with the DIY'ers- 1) buy a digitizer that comes with the tools. They are plastic and you won't risk the scratches you can get with a sharp/metal tool; 2) discharge the unit fully; 3) wear eye protection b/c of glass shards; 4) use LCD wipes to clean LCD; 5) compressed air and latex gloves are a +

    I did it! I did it! Thanks for the great advice. Some observations: I used a 2000W hair dryer and heated the perimeter surfaces until they were quite hot to touch, allowing long enough for the heat to penetrate the glass to the glue on the inside. I also found pre-heating the putty knife helps - no point in sticking a cold knife in! My putty knife is much abused and had rounded edges rather than hard corners, and I was more comfortable with this as it would be less likely to dig in - so consider filing the corners off your putting knife.

    Excellent tutorial. The one thing I did with the cable at the end to make it easier as I have done a few things similar to this is attach the cable first and I just wrapped the screen around and then put the screen in place. Anyway, thanks for showing me how to take it apart correctly.

    The cable must be seated properly. Make sure the line on the cable is aligned directly over the line on the board. Otherwise the touch feature will not work. Test it before reassembly in case it's poorly connected. I believe the the guy in the video mentioned that this part requires some attention to detail and that is is somewhat difficult to perform. I did notice a ridge on the back of the cable. I used my finger nails to push it in using this ridge and it was still fairly difficult. Success!

    Once removed ,I cleaned the LCD from any debris, placed my new screen in place(fitted like a glove)Firmly press it into place around the black edge.Clip in the new connector on to the board.Then clip back on the back .And turn back on.A very easy repair took me 40 mins.Now my Tab looks as good as new ,Hope my wife does not drop it again!

    Replaced my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 screren earlier today ,using this video but there are some key differences.First thing take the back off the unit , the unclip the screen connector(which is below the battery towards the edge of the unit).Flip over the unit.Now the hard bit. removing he screen.I used a blunt Stanley knife blade to initially get under the glass, once under using a heat gun and a guitar pick I went around the edge ,this took about 20 minutes to remove it.TBC

  • @williamrshirley
    @williamrshirley 11 років тому

    The Tab 2 7 was much like this but a bit smaller, the case was hard to crack open. I used a plastic tool and a razor knife and first to do this. Then to get the screen off I used a guitar pic or some kind of tool included along with a heat gun to remove the digitzer. I had to get it started with a razor knife also but was not as concerned as it was being replaced. If I do this again I might want a set of tools to do this.

    I haven't been able to find one for the Tab 2 7.0. However, at least the first parts match up with this video. I was able to pry off the back and pull out the tab that attaches the screen to the motherboard. I don't have the tools yet, so I don't want to mess around with it too much. Will post again after I've received the tools to point out any differences. Maybe I will post my own video in response.

    Excellent tutorial, but I have one question if you could help me out .Could you tell me where you purchased your screen with the adhesive? I have two Samsung tab 2 10.1, just like the one you demonstrated with. I just broke the screen on the good one. I had looked at them on-line (the screen) before, but I wasn't sure that it would have the adhesive and was afraid I would be throwing my money away. I was going to try to switch out screens from the old one to the new, but after watching you heat it up, it looks like it probably would not work well and it would be betterfor me to buy a new screen. Thanks for any guidance you can offer!

    You made this look really easy and simple, would you recommend anyone doing this themself or just take it to some shop? Mine broke and im still deciding if I should fix it myself or take it in to a shop, shop is charging me about 100 plus buck to get it it fix. If I do it myself I could save some money.

      Based on what I've seen here, I'd say take it to the shop.

  • @bobmarshall4784
    @bobmarshall4784 11 років тому

    Probably a broken LCD, a lose cable on your motherboard or a messed up connection on your motherboard. Unfortunately the last option seems most likely which will also mean it will cost you the most money. But hopefully it is option number one which is also not unlikely :)
    Take it to a professional repair center(professional usually means not cheap :p) and let them have a look at it.
    Good luck!

    On the Tab 2 digitizers you need to make sure you get the correct REV screen. There is an 00, 01, 02, 03 and 04 located on the flex cable. I always disconnect the battery when doing this type of repair.

    • @deadbluesky
      @deadbluesky 8 років тому +1

      +Bobby Gorden Totally agree, and please dont use those metal contractor tools metal tools can cause short cut, plastic tool like pick guitar is more safe so you will not damage any, and remove the old 2 side black tape on the tablet before installing the screen or the screen will not stick well and you will probably have a little gap if you dont remove it !!

  • @dirksmith2540
    @dirksmith2540 11 років тому

    GUYS VERY IMPORTANT FACT THERE ARE 3 SCREEN TYPES, REV 2, REV 3, AND REV 4. the gold one is usually rev4 , it is important that you get the correct screen or the wrong rev number will not work, this number will be marked on the screen cable.

    Hi I just want to add my two cents I was having trouble with my digitizer working after installation so I was assuming the digitizer was defective but after reading Dirk Smith comment ( THANK YOU DIRK SMITH ) I realized that I have the wrong digitizer since
    I got a black ribbon instead of a golden ribbon like my digitizer has so I suggest to do the following:
    1.- open your tablet and get the number written on the ribbon so you get the correct digitizer for your tablet. (my mistake was to order my digitizer first using the model number on the back of the case instead of open the tablet and getting the number stamped on the ribbon )
    2.- Don’t take the wrapping off your new digitizer even the one inside until you test the digitizer first!!! This will make easy to return it in case it doesn’t work and you don’t have to mess with the glue on the digitizer ( don’t worry you digitizer will work even with all protectors in both sides of the digitizer) .
    3.- for some reason my digitizer didn’t have written number on the ribbon ex: ( rev 01, rev02, rev03, rev 04 ) so I follow dirk advice and order the golden ribbon which came with the rev 02 number on the ribbon but even then it works with my tablet!!
    I have to add that the digitizer that I order was for a Samsung model P5110 /P5100 and my tablet model is Samsung GT-P5113TS 16 GBI was reading on other post in this same comment that if you can find a digitizer for the P5113 this other models P5110/P5100 will fit this model too.
    Hope this helps if your having problems with your digitizer and it doesn’t work after the installation.

      For example, If I put REV06 in remplacement of my old REV03 cracked, will it work?
      If no, do you have solution to change the REV number for the REV06 work?

    I put the screen on with no problem. But now it won't power up. When I took the back off a small piece with a short black strap fell out. I watched your video and found that it is located near the power button and has a small square board that plugs into the board about 2 inches below the power button. Was the black strap attached or does it plug in? Please help. Thanks

    This was so hard! I cut my fingers after shattering the glass into shreds when it only had a single long crack. but after 5 long hours (seriously~) it didn't work! I wanted to plug the flex cable in 1st to test but I couldn't seem to make it reach & then the glass just kept sticking so anyway, It acted exactly the same as the cracked screen, no response to touch!
    Do you think it was a faulty digitizer or could it possibly be the clip thing that snapped off when I was trying to plugin the new flex cable back in the back? that tiny clip that moves up to release the cable or down to secure it in place, under the tape?? I still try to use the piece and stick it together w/the cable plugged in but I don't know if it does any good at all.
    And then when I was trying to remove the new glass/digitizer thinking I hadn't placed it firm enough or centered, I ripped the new cable in half before I realized I was doing it! so now I guess I'll never know if it was a bad digitizer or I was a bad repair person!
    Do you know what else could cause the tab to be unresponsive to touch? thanks for any advice!

      e-bay was where I found mine and the 3G versions do not work on the WiFi only versions. Check out e-bay and message seller, if you are UK or ROI I can send the link of where I purchased my replacement digitizer.

    If you value your device, you wont use a spackle blade and a box cutter to work on your electronics... you can order a toolkit specific for these types on repairs. The tools are small and compact, made of plastics that will not damage your device. They are also very affordable... and while your at it, if you plan on uploading your job to youtube, you can purchase a better camera so people can actually see exactly what you are doing.

    Don't forget to remove the SIM and memory card before trying to remove the screen, else you may (like I did) break the memory card in half - DOH!

      Filth Paradise if it is a Tab 2 10.1, or pretty much any device that doesnt have a SUPER amoled display (a super amoled display has the outer glass, digitizer, and lcd all sandwhiched together. The Tab 2's display doesnt. If the phone were on and he took that shattered glass off you would still see the display because he only removed the outer "Gorilla Glass" (alkali-aluminosilicate glass) and digitizer, but not the lcd. The Gorilla Glass (outter protective glass that has the black rim and the words "Samsung") and digitizer are a single unit; the outer "Gorilla Glass" actually acts as a substrate to hold the digitizer.)
      To answer your question simply, on a Tab 2 10.1 the outer glass that cracks has the "touch sensor" (a.k.a. the digitizer) permanently attached. On super amoled displays you have to replace the outer glass, the digitizer, and the lcd display if any one of the 3 go bad since they are all a single unit.

      Andrew Delashaw wow thank you! you really taught me a lot in that single comment!
      I tried to replace my cracked glass on my Tab 2.10.1 and It didn't work. the weird thing is that when it first cracked, 1 long crack, it still worked for a day or so and then it stopped responding to touch. sooo.. would you happen to have any idea?
      I explained in more detail above if you have a minute.
      Thank you!
