Very impressed with Kovalev. He will have tougher test once he faces the other champions and the new contenders but still on that showing he will be hard to beat.
Kovalev is heavy handed so even when he is boxing the shots are having an effect on opponent. Ward said it was when Kovalev boxes and throws the jab and sharp short straight punches is the most difficult to fight against, not when he is swinging for the KO.
i hope Kovalev finally realized his job is to beat the crap out of guys in the ring and not woman outside of it. I like him as a fighter, but he definitely got some major issues human wise and he needs to fix them asap...
Well, bloody hell. I wasn't expecting that. Kovalev elevated his game, big time. I thought Alvarez was going to do the business more quickly this time, but Kovalev finally got it figured out. I think those losses were actually valuable for Kovalev. He now understands the value in listening to a trainer and dialling back his bully mentality. Completely caught by surprise but fair play to him.
Kovalev beat Ward the first time imo, he was winning the second fight before he started to wither from the rough boxing by ward, this Kovalev with better conditioning and smarter boxing IQ and is in a better place mentally, he would beat Ward imo. I still think he would lose to Bivol, he has a good chance against the other top fighters.
I wanted Kovalev to win, but i thought he wouldn't because of his age and his personal problems which could hinder his performance. Glad i was wrong. Wish he continues to improve, he clearly had a good colaboration with Buddy McGirt. He's now a 3 time champion he clearly has great ability. A fight with Gvodzyk would be great.
Thanks for drawing my attention to kovalevs new defensive coach hatman, that and the fact kovalev was comftabley beating alverez in the first fight before the knock out, i could only see one outcome and thats the bookies losing 😂
there still has to be a third fight as Alvarez won the first fight 7th round TKO so Kovalev winning this has not proved that much the third fight should tell us more as I believe Kovalev would have to KO Alvarez to get real revenge.
He’s a brilliant boxer kovalev, doesn’t have to always be the vicious ko artist we know him to be. Proven to be versatile, still a massive threat to anyone
fouwad aziz he’d smash yardes face in but buatsi is a different animal. Still think kovalev would beat buatsi at this stage too tho but it’s a more interesting fight
What do we make of the presenters talking to the corners and questioning why certain things weren't being done? I'm not saying that it affected the fight, though saying to Alvarez's trainer "why doesn't he go to the body?" is a bit dodgy.
Kovalev's stamina was unreal. Alvarez wait for him to punch out, but Kovalev never did. Kovalev had stamina problems in 5 last fights, but no here. Impressive and strange, really.
@@setmindinmotion7728 Kovalev throw over 800 punches. In Word fight, under 500, in Hopkins fight under 600. And his punches were powerful. Alvarez couldn't do anything and when he does - in later rounds - he almost get stopped. Not bad for 35 years old alkoholic.
I've always rated Kovalev, but there seemed to be a mental weakness rear it's head over the past few years, so tonight I wondered if he had anything left. First time we've really seen him show such nous in the ring, so hats off to him and his trainer. It will be much harder against Bivol, but if he can get the gameplan right, I wouldn't completely write him off. Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks after all.
Maybe there was some truth to what Kovalev had said about overtraining for the first fight. Kovalev lacks the explosiveness he has 4 or 5 years ago, but he can box well.
I agree with all the main points, but I still feel Kovalev’s engine will let him down against somebody who might be able to apply more pressure than Alvarez (eg Bivol). He was tiring just after the midway point but managed to pull it back (I think he thanked Mcgirt for that in the post fight).Really good to see him back though ;Bivol and Beterbiev have both called him out-what fights they would be!

An example of a very good fighters that lost dedication to the life of a boxer and got humbled and put the dedication back in to regain his level. How much time does he have left at this level? Also we are still not sure what he will do with adversity. He wasn’t under huge pressure like he had been before.
What the hell are you talking about dude, he got knocked out and embarassed by alvarez and came back and whooped his ass. How is that for adversity? He had everything to lose and rose to the occasion.

Let's be honest, great performance from Kovalev without a doubt. But I think this will be his last fight, the man is facing a felony charge fro beating a woman and her dog , I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't serve serious jail time for this I will be very surprised.

Just like you said Hatman Buddy McGirt teached him to box just like he teached Arturo Gatti
