You all mentioned some new additions to the Brutality matches. What areas are those going to be held in?
Brice H.
What information can you give on the brutality match in Parma, ID coming in November?
Joe L
What did you see at ShotShow that you found to be either impressive or innovative?
Ryan R
I have astigmatism. When I use a red dot I see a large starburst. What would be the best way to deal with this or site to use?
Melvin L
You did a segment where you ran a match using a cap-and-ball 1862 Colt Police Revolver. You demonstrated how the hammer can be set in-between two chambers so that it could be carried safely while fully loaded. Why wasn't this done by Colt with the Single Action Army? Seems like they could use a recess in the cylinder for the firing pin to reside.
John G
Hi Karl, DB was a fantastic experience! What was your favorite moment from this year’s match?
Sebastian M
Repeat question : Hi Karl , in an older Q&A you've said that you wanted to try a bigger caliber (like 6,5 creedmoor) for the WWSD rifle/DMR but couldn't because there weren't any good polymer lowers. Now that you have the opportunity to practically design your own lowers will you revisit this idea for the WWSD2020?
Natchenko
In general was the M1 Garand a significantly better weapon than the M1 Carbine?
Mark F
Karl, what sunglasses are you wearing in the 5.56 MDR video? Are they ballistically rated for eye protection?
Brendan S
In the US, gun issues are divided pretty heavily on party lines. Has this been the case in other countries you've visited?
Sean C
If you were a civil war soldier and had the ability to choose your own sidearm would you choose a pinfire or rimfire revolver over a cap and ball?
Chadi P. K.
Karl, your collection of guns seems to err more on the side of "for fun". Is this a correct assumption?
Bunny
I love the channel, especially these Q&As! In older videos Karl has said he shoots Tula, but more recently Ian said stick to Wolf Gold. Have you experienced problems with stuck cases when shooting steel ammo and is it okay to go from steel to brass if I clean the chamber out first?
Thomas S
Can you think of any reason why the U.S. Military switched back to full auto for their M4s?
Duke VonMeep the 2nd
If you could have any gun “steam punked” what would it be?
Alex H
Karl, with your research into mid to low end red dots for the WWSD project, did you guys look at fixed magnification prisim scopes is similar price ranges?
Rory N
What do you think firearms laws will look like on other planets? Will they be more restrictive given the likelihood of government sponsorship, or less due to the frontier-like spirit of colonization?
asdf
I believe you or Ian mentioned at some point that you were working on a video or series about the best ban-state rifle options. Is this still in the works?
Sean S.
While there are have been a few here videos here and there I have noticed you guys don't film as much 2GACM matches as much as a few years ago, why is that?
Caleb S
Play anything cool in VR lately?
Connor D
What are your thoughts on 3D printing hard to find accessories for older firearms, such as carcano enbloc clips for example?
stuka444
With DB2020 over, was there anything you think could have been expanded on or gone better?
Josh M
I live in a state that restricts barrel profile on new ar builds. I am planning on building a wwsd2020 but assembling the upper myself to comply with state regs. Do you think faxon heavy fluted barrel or other similar "H-Bar" compliant barrel is a good compromise?
turbo1889
A friend suggested that ultimately the NFA and similar infringements will be "gotten around" by projectile launchers that use electromagnetics rather then gunpowder to launch projectiles; your thoughts on this?
Ineedacoolnickname
I will be attending my first competitive shooting match (idpa) this spring b/c of inrange. What should I need/look for in gear, especially holster for dual competition and eventual ccw? I have a Polymer80 G19.
Luis R
Are AK recoil spring buffers a gimmick or actually useful to prevent wear and tear?
Matt S
Will you have more civil war and/or western firearms content? I was happy to see you run the 62 Colt, 73 Colt and 73 Winchester in recent posts.
Christopher H
You've mentioned that a problem with reproducing cool historical gun designs is that far more people will say they'd buy a reproduction of Gun X when it's a hypothetical than will actually put their money where their mouths are if someone goes ahead and makes one. Why isn't there a kickstarter-equivalent for firearms yet, and is there anything you can do to remedy this lack?

Shots fired, as it were.
I've enjoyed the two gun matches when you guys bring weird or old guns to test how they run under pressure, found those more entertaining than the matches you guys bring competitive, modern equipment to. The WWI anniversary match was great to see especially.
Stewart Lynton yea those are my favorite videos from this channel!!
Oh man that Chauchat was something to watch, and listen to.
Stewart Lynton I found my self just fast forwarding to the conclusions sometimes those are interesting but the shooting part was boring me to tears.
"I guarantee you bullet factories are going to be relatively low on the list for a [space] colony." That was funnier then I expected.
I disagree. Seeing where we are at right now in terms of additive manufacturing, I think by the time we are colonizing Mars in a significant way (way after the first state sponsored expeditions and outposts) we will have developed that significantly farther. Maybe not quite to the level of the Star Trek replicators, but at least laser metal sintering should be as common and available as 3D printing plastic is today. That means that pretty much any gun part will be available for local manufacture. The only issue might be producing the propellant. But chemicals, including volatile ones, will most certainly also be available in any frontier situation. So that should not be that big of an issue either. Possibly the tech will even have advanced far enough that chemical compounds can easily be synthesized as well. Thereby meaning that the neat little box on your desk is not only your gun (part) factory, but literally also your bullet factory. Whether this will be economical for mass manufacture (as in governments/corporations supplying their armies by those means) is another question. But for a civilian application, cost isn't that big of an issue. You only need one gun and a box of ammo every couple of months and you already have the machine anyways (because you need it every day to create tools and parts vital to your survival and the expansion of the settlement), so you may as well use it for that as well.
If that planet has large, dangerous predators on it, ammo and firearms factories (or pulse rifles or laser guns or whatever) will be a TOP priority.
"I don't plan on spending all my days on Earth"
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think that could surprise me less.

THIS. I understand and support the idea of having a personal battle weapon. And a secondary weapon. And if your state allows it, a daily carry sidearm (or a few for different seasons, reasons and outfits). But people are so caught up in "tacticool" that they forget to have fun. I personally know somebody who owns probably 30 rifles; half of them are AR or AK variants in 5.56x45, 7.62x39 or .308. But he refuses to own any firearm that isn't "battle worthy" which really throws out allot of fun to shoot guns. I feel like he is missing a huge part of the shooting sports by being so dogmatic about it. He even refused to SHOOT my Rossi lever action and instead snubbed his nose at it, and went on to dis .357 magnum for being outdated and lever guns for being 'manually operated'. It really put a bad taste in my mouth over the issue of shooting.
I know other people who refuse to own anything other than half-MOA bolt-action hunting guns with 20x scopes. They also miss a huge part of shooting sports.
I think thew closed mindedness of these groups lends itself to misinformation and misunderstanding. I hunted for a long time, I...just don't find it appealing. (except for midnight hunts for coyotes...I love that!). I love guns and I love shooting. But I also love variety and the mechanics of the guns. I do like that there is a small but growing group of people who shoot for sport and have 'fun guns'. These are either painted up with over-the-top paint jobs or colors or they are horribly obsolete or impractical guns with unneeded modifications just to have fun.
Again; I FULLY support the idea that everyone should have a battle weapon and a self defense weapon. And we should all be well practiced with them. But being dogmatic that every firearm must be tactical or every firearm must be for hunting and getting bent out of shape over people having old, obsolete, impractical, or just plain weird guns is really stupid.
Preaching to the choir brother.
@@hauptmanndosman glad to see others with open minds. I think the shooting sports are in a renaissance for the better. And channels like these are really helping bring us together.
@Muster Muckee II, I totally hear you. Old stuff is so cool. And fun to shoot.
And I am an iron sight person myself.
The question about electromagnetics getting around the NFA reminded me of a reference in Fallout 3 to the Bureau of Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco, Firearms, and Lasers
Ross Richards I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to think that. :-)
There's a BADTFL building in Fallout 4 as well, being tossed by raiders because "at least one of those things has to be there"
Because brain dead jackasses have used high power laser pointers to damage the vision of people including airplane pilots and law enforcement there may well be laws regulating the power of some lasers.
I would love to see some more of the other people at your matches running them. Maybe not the whole thing, but just some highlights of, like, the guy in the Chernobyl suit.
...And .308 ARs are not as standardized as .223/5.56mm models. There are constant fitting issues between brands. It likely would not be economically viable in terms of sales.
SinistralRifleman I personally have been dreaming about a MK III Polymer 308 lower for quite a while now. Even if it was only compatible with a hand full or less of manufacturers I would still buy two maybe three of them.
Curtis Gray if we can’t sell tens of thousands annually it’s not worth the hundreds of thousands of dollars in tooling cost.
.308 ARs are a relatively niche thing best served by existing forged and billet production.
SinistralRifleman I understand. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
What about using a .224 Valkyrie in a DMR role? I know Ian's been enthusiastic about the cartridge in the past.
What about .300 AAC/Blackout/Whisper? It uses the same magazine as 5.56.

Consider: the best gun for use in space is a vickers gun. Water cooled means it won’t overheat, air cooling doesn’t work in a vacuum. Weight isn’t an issue because zero gravity. Belt feed means you don’t have to try to reload with bulky pressure suit gloves and the reliability of a vickers mean you don’t have to clear malfunctions. Full auto with tracer means you don’t have to try to bring sights up to your helmet.
but the water would freeze immediately, maybe some kind of antifreeze or alcohol or something?
I enjoy the matches that you put on video. Due to my medical conditions, I am not able to participate in gun competitions, so I live vicariously through you guys and Russell...
In Maryland, the barrel profile restriction was derived from an outright AR-15 ban. At the protest of shooting competitions in the state, an exception was negotiated for the Colt Sporter HBAR, which was argued to be a common model used in those competitions. This law was later interpreted as excepting any AR-15 with a barrel marked "HBAR" or "Heavy" from the ban as being a clone of the Colt model. Other AR platform rifles in different calibers or gas systems (piston for example) are not legally considered "AR-15s" as they don't have complete parts interchangeability and are not therefore clones. Grandfathered lowers (pre-2013) are not restricted on configuration or profile but cannot be transferred in-state. This is my understanding of the legislation and how it got to where it is in MD as of March 2020. It may or may not be relevant in one or several years.
very interesting. makes me look at my sporter hbar a little different. :)
Yeah, so many truly stupid laws here. Also, AR pistols get around the HBAR law too. Most people forget about MD when thinking about crazy restrictive states, but there's an argument that we are in the top 3 restricted places. Meanwhile, Baltimore routinely has the most murders per capita. Amazing.
I'm glad I found this comment. I'm moving to MD from a in a year or so for career reasons. If I already have an AR can I import it into the state? Or should I sell it and buy one there? Or can I buy a heavy barrel for any old AR and make it legal?
@@ianperry4768 honestly i doubt it's enforced. I wouldn't worry about it.
Ian, part of the problem with living in a place like this is most laws are either vague or intentionally confusing.
I believe you can bring in an AR that is non-hbar as long as you owned it before the ban in 2013. If so, you will need to register is with MD police within 90 days of moving here. If not, you can swap uppers to a hbar and have it that way. Another option if you want a lightweight AR is to buy an AR pistol or an AR rifle in any other caliber besides 223/556, as hbar does not apply to them.
Before you move, call the state police and ask what is allowed and how to bring stuff in legally, and try to get it in writing too. You could go with Geminis advice, and maybe it will never be a problem for you, but personally, I don't think it's worth it. But the best advice I can give is don't more here if you like guns.
Thanks for taking my question guys! The answer makes complete sense.
Re: the RSC clips, all that’s needed is a set of properly dimensioned drawings and not the clip itself. I agree with the other comment that the best solution would be a mold negative and then casting the clip in thermoset plastic (closer properties to spring steel than the plastics commonly printed) I don’t think kevlar layup is necessarily required. If you can get someone local to you to do the drawings (obviating the need to mail or have it leave your possession) I’d be more than happy to do a parametric model and negative with some test printing!
For the RSC clips wouldn't it make more sense to use the 3D printer manufacture the jig needed to make the clips out of sheet metal ? We don't need to reinvent the wheel just recreate the machinery to build the clip
William Prince The pressures required for bending sheet metal would deform any jig you could print, unless you printed in metal which would be a significant expense and require post-process machining of surfaces for the tolerances required. The nice thing about creating a mold is you can use a very inexpensive but accurate process (PLA thermopolymer) with a little bit of filler work, and create a re-usable multi=item channel mold for thermoset plastic pours to create them for less cost than sheet metal.
@@windstormscr8948 This isn't necessarily true. It is possible to use 3D printed parts to form thin sheet metal. Stuff Made Here did a video about it, but he's not the only one.
I would add that this tooling is going to require some trial and error to develop, and probably is only going to last for a handful of parts... but it's probably the way I'd go if I wanted a handful of obscure RSC clips.

I’m glad you explained how you saw the match content as data gathering. I was one of those people who just saw it as match content.
That was the dullest, most gun-geeky production I have ever found myself incapable of quitting :-D You two guys are a class double-act. More Bob Hope/Bing Crosby than Abbott and Costello (you two can decide between you which hat fits each of you you best) but genuinely and unexpectedly absorbing (for which your questioners also deserve recognition). Thank You
To the question of 3D printing steel clips. A better option would be to 3D print a negative mold of the clip, and overlay it with Kevlar using the wet layup process(do not forget to use release agent on the mold!). Carbon fiber, Kevlar, and basalt fiber with a quality epoxy resin are a 1 to 1 swap with basic steels. As you mentioned there are scanner's to scan object into digital cad files. To Ian next time you are going to a major city look up rapid prototyping service's. If you would like to have your clip scanned. They have multiple types of scanners and 3d printers. Some larger shops will have 3d metal printers just make sure to get a firm price($$$) before requesting metal printing. Cheers
NOTE: Spacesuits have micrometeoroid protection, they'll probably survive a BB gun. Also, small holes in spacesuits aren't immediately fatal, frequently the human body plugs up the hole and you end up with a bad bruise with some freezing instead.
Not even freezing. Vacuum isn't cold or warm, temperature is a property of matter.
For example, it's pretty difficult for vessels in space to shed excess heat because they need to radiate it, which requires a very hot surface to be effective.
(sorry for the nitpicking, I just find the topic interesting and wanted to contribute)
@@MarvinCZ skin moisture evaporates on exposure to vacuum, which can freeze tissue and dehydrate you
@@zchris13 No, even skin moisture evaporating wouldn't freeze you, assuming we're still talking about a small hole.
Water by itself can freeze in vacuum but that is due to several factors that do not apply to the human body, or not to the same degree.
The human body is pretty good at keeping moisture in so there won't be much evaporation to begin with. Water alone in a vacuum freezes because other than the evaporation, it doesn't have other ways to change temperature in vacuum. It has no way to gain heat, so it just cools down. However if a small part of the human body is getting cooled by a bit of evaporation, there is still the rest of the body to transfer more heat in and balance out the loss.
A solid semiautomatic "Banned State" rifle is a SKS with a Matador Arms Razor Scout Mount that replaces the rear sight with a rear sight that has a Picatinny Rail incorporated for adding a red dot. Also add a Tapco SKS handguard with Picatinny rail for a weapon mounted light. I wouldn't attach a optic to the polymer Tapco handguard because it may wobble and have inconsistent accuracy. I have this set up in New Jersey a "Banned State ".
43:50 question on barrel profile restrictions. The best solution is a carbon fiber wrapped barrel. They have an h-bar profile but a lot less weight. Down side is price. Carbon fiber barrels are 2-3x the cost as faxon 14.5 pinned and welded barrel.
I really look forward to the Q&A videos on InRange and Forgotten Weapons every month. Really enjoyable videos
For the guns in space conversation: Depending on circumstances guns might very well banned completly with maybe security forces getting them under some extreme situation. If you think space craft or colony that depends on domes or something like that to maintain habitable conditions, weapons that could potentially pierce the pressure hull would understandably be a big no-no. It wouldn't even have to be "some nitwit had accidental discharge and now half the colony is suffocating" situation but small leak somewhere could be such drain on resources of the colony that it would be just more economical to ban all weapons that could do that.
Match content is best when you guys are actively testing things. It's awesome to stuff like the Garand run at the independence day match and to see how well you guys score with odd bits of kit. I have a feeling many people have waning interest when you present match content of more competitive gear. It's just not as intriguing on an intellectual level. The intellectual value of your content is what separates inrange from the blasting channels and 3 gun.
I'm not sure if it's not just having to concede a positive point about the M1 carbine, but those glasses make Karl look super grumpy.
Ban state rifles:
*Sad SKS noises*
Karl has all the same gun interests I do. I just can’t afford them. Looking forward to civil war carbine content!
Woo! West Virginia! I'll keep my fingers crossed!
See, I knew all those BB gun fights my friends and I had when we were kids would pay off some day. Have Red Ryder, will space travel.
At 24:00 Karl tries making the bible quote, it is from the Apostle John, by the way. Here it is.
Revelations 3:16 "So because you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth" NLT
It is speaking to the church at Laodicea, who were between a town known for hot springs and a town known for cool clean water, they got water from aqueducts from the hot spring because their water was crap, and was thus lukewarm (that way they would get the message a bit more). It was because they weren't doing anything.
Just notes for context.
Jeremiah90526 24:00 and lo, Gun Lucifer wrongly told Gun Jesus that normal Jesus said something that he did not.
The discussion of weapons in outer space is getting me all hyped... 'cuz we're going back to freaking swords, baby!
I think a lot of the fringe less-than-lethal weapons we have now will be a better option. Microwave / optical / acoustic disablers MIGHT be possible with LiPo batteries in a point defense rather than area denial role. With sufficient advances in energy storage, personal Gauss guns and railguns will be next.
Master forgive me
Thanx for all the great content!
Compact, rechargeable railguns will probably be rather popular on colony worlds. You could just fab projectiles from whatever high-mass element is available.
Gun Jesus approves Steampunk
Gun Lucifer disapproves Steampunk
Huh. They are like the gun version of Good Omens.
Welp, there's something I never really thought of before. That adds a fun layer of humor to InRange.
in regards to match content, I find this memorizing. I"ll watch these match video every morning for at least a week and find myself pining for more.
*helicopter flies over the instant molotovs and can cannons are mentioned*
Tip - if you replace M1 carbine mag springs, with new ones. You'll stop having mag related issues.
48:37 I completely agree, when I went to tiger valley 2019 I used my leather carry holster (on my steyr m9a1) but it wasn't super effective and I also had to lock it by strapping my alas rig around it so it didn't have a chance to fallout while in use.
Karl quoting Revelation made my day
That's an interesting point about space guns. For someone in a thin space suit, even a Red Ryder would be lethal at sighting range because there would be no air to slow that BB down. The range of the projectile would be enormous.
Another plug for Rick Smith. Got my repro FG-42, and could not be happier with the process. The only hitch came with getting the FFL transfer setup. That was unnecessarily complicated with him. But other than that (and it was a minor issue), the transaction went very well.
If anybody out there is interested, they aren't cheap, but they are pretty damn cool!
The "collection" discussion starting around 19:00 got really humorous 🤣🤣🤣
I always viewed your two guns as data and loved the multiview you did for a short time as I would analyze what you would do in situations and obstacles. I miss it
Brutality in ID! Looking forward to it!
3:30 the Dreyse / Rogak hybrid gets recognition! Hail Rogak!!!
In regards to the red dot question: If I am looking through a red dot indoors it looks slightly starred but outdoors they are nice and crisp. So for me it is more about the light conditions I am in.
Spring over where you sit looks amazing!
My astigmatism causes a diagonal "smear" or ghosting up and a bit to the right. I actually have more issues with it distorting my vision of a target that occupies a small angle of my field of vision than I do with it distorting my sights - which typically leads to me shooting with more magnification than I would otherwise.
I actually get a double image of pretty much everything that is overlayed on the primary image but just slightly offset. It's often difficult to decide which is the actual image and whether or not I should just split the difference. It's worse on the out of focus planes so splitting the difference on a two front sights, 2 rear sights and a fuzzy target can give me fairly poor results some days
Plus, there's already a lightweight .308 in the POF Rogue, weighing in at 5.9 lbs. In theory, you should be able to swap out the barrel for a 6.5CM barrel, and as long as you keep to a lighter profile barrel, it should keep to a pretty low poundage. Then it's a matter of optic, mount, and bipod choice. But, to me, I'd go with a 6.5 Grendel or .224 Valkyrie upper for a DMR for a WWSD rifle. That said, I do know guys who can shoot 5.56 out to 1000 yards, but they're ridiculously good shooters.
AK buffers are malfunction devices, in my experience also. Tried one with a 47, a 74, and a Saiga-12, and none of them ran properly with the buffer. Use your $11 (whatever it is) for something else.
On astigmatism, I have a bit of one and I find it depends mainly on the size of the dot: bigger the dot, the more opportunity there is for my astigmatism to scatter the dot. 6MOA is an oval but canted 45 degrees to the left. 2MOA works best. I thought my red dot was broken until I picture of it with my phone.
I don't have an issue with reflex sights wierdly.
I'm one of those with a serious astigmatism. The dot is a good 12 moa when it should be 2 moa, or there are multiple dots, or both... my prism sight is amazing.
The 6.5 Creedmoor question is interesting, at least in the broader sense of asking about other cartridges for the AR-15. 5.56 seems to be the defacto cartridge due to US Military / NATO procurement reasons, but it would be interesting to see if the properties of other enthusiast rounds such as 6.5 Grendel or 300 Blackout would be useful in the idealized world in which the WWSD exists. Given that these wouldn't require a new lower, I'd wonder if a compelling case could be made.
Cant wait foe the cavalry carbines content, love you guys.
5:19 My guess is that, by parking the hammer between chambers, the component you're securing the cylinder with is vital to the function of the gun.
Break the safety pin on the back of a percussion revolver cylinder, you still have a functional gun. If the cylinder of a Single Action Army were somehow torqued hard enough (the bolt is outside of a notch, after all) you can bend or mar the firing pin since _that_ is the piece that is holding the cylinder in place.
28:10 For me, astigmatism just means the 3 MOA red dot becomes a 5 MOA red dot (without corrective lenses). No real effect at realistic ranges for an unmagnified optic.
Just got a 3d printer. Still learning the ropes but can confirm they're awesome and definitely the future. Metal ones are not affordable yet but that will change, might as well get ahead of the curve now.
The can cannon has had a practical application since they came out with the grappling hook for it. Primarily on boats.
I'm a Washington state rec grower and you guys are absolutely right about dealing with financial institutions. The really weird part is that the IRS has no problem whatsoever dealing with us. Weird, huh
Karl: Jesus said this
Ian: no I didnt
Coil guns. Any ferrous metal can be a projectile and only uses electricity
best steam punk gun is the Enfield semi-auto conversions that work the bolt for you with the external gas piston
Is the one in WV held at peacemaker national training center? Really nice range that's close enough to go to. It's probably already happened but id think you would do it again after seeing that range. Only public range I'll go to.
"As in...Helsinki, Sweden."
"...Finland..."
@@logitimate Is Gustavus Adolphus libera et impera-ing again !?
I am I'm West Virginia and would love to attend. What is the style of what you're planning for it? Would like to prepare and. Build up gear I may lack
Lloyd Deel me to bud. It sucks that there arn’t many shooting sports in this state. Hope they make it happen.
@@Wazup13579 exactly my thoughts!
I had LASIK to correct my nearsightedness and serious astigmatism, and noticed that red dots and holo sights look much crisper and easier to put on a target now.
A consideration on different views on gun rights in Europe: Europe wasn't born on the barrel of a rifle. Europe was born on the blood and corpses of at least 3000 years of somewhat continuous warfare and I still think that somewhere in our subconscious is the awareness that guns are just tools, not some item of religious worship (like US gun culture tends to look to us).
On top of that, the presence of the State in our everyday lives is much, much different: we are used to thinking that it cares (or is supposed to care) for us, so through law enforcement/court system/etc we don't need guns (of course whether that's actually true or not is another matter entirely ^^").
As far as I can see (I live in north-western Italy, have a few friends in the military or former, hunter relatives and friends who shoot for fun, so this is just my experience), things "here" are more scholarly interest, recreational shooting and hunting, more than actual self defense or, gods forbid, defense from the State.
I think this is really good insight.
I dont know if thats necessarily the case. Since i dont live in Europe I am not going to make vast over generalizations about a whole continent but the idea of "3000 years of combat" (doesnt apply for some european nations) somehow translates into people thinking that modern people view firearms as tools is really farfetched. Of course i cant know for sure, but based on anecdotes from friends i have in germany and the scandinavia, thats not really the case. It is also not the case for a lot of areas in the US. It is very easy to assume that a lot of America is very militant in its defense of gun rights, but it simply isnt. Most northeastern states and western have adopted a similar view as some countries in Europe regarding firearms (not implying everyone living there agrees however). Simply put, I dont think you can generalize all of Europe (something my ignorant self have thought before) in thinking that years of war have somehow made people more aware of firearms and its function(but not how incredibly stupid war is) or that all of them are averse to the ideas of firearms( I believe the Czech Republic is a good example). And on the other hand, not everyone in the US treats firearms the same way and that there are lots of nuanced opinions on the matter. Thanks for the comment
I'm admittedly not as familiar with the prevalence or type of hunting in Europe, but I do know that a direct link to my relatives using firearms for subsistence and protection while settling into the western USA has definitely contributed to my desire for and use of firearms (though I would definitely not term it "religious worship"). Where I live it's not just that you might have relatives that hunt, it's still relatively unusual for someone in the household not to hunt. A family filling their deer tags still makes up a significant portion of the meat that family eats in the year.
@@diamondflaw In Europe, there are very few (and usually protected or heavily regulated) wildlife areas (mostly in Scandinavia o Eastern Europe, on the top of my head), so sustenance hunting is something that isn't as wide-spread, here ^^ I'm sure there are places where they still do it to a noticeable extent, they are not the majority, tho
@@diamondflaw As Federico said, there are few actually wild areas left in Europe. There are many wooded areas of a different type - planted, cultivated and harvested for wood. There is wildlife living in them and there is a need for hunting as population control. The hunted game is harvested but it is not the same as most hunting in the US.
I had trouble with brass after steel but it was the uber triple over gassing of Winchester white box 7.62 X 39 in my SKS trying to beat it do death instead of the case being an issue.
I've had an ar10, two ar15's and a Scorpion Evo get brass cases get stuck in the chamber after shooting Tula. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson. It's a real thing for sure.
Never understood why more chambers aren't fluted
Id take a 12mm pinfire in double action like the one Stonewall Jackson carried
Regarding making the mold for the AR lower, I think you guys have overlooked the fact that you could use 3D printing to make the mold or make the mold for the mold.
Ian and karl first off I support both inrange and forgotten weapons on patreon.I own a 3d printing business. I have a smaller 3d printer I will give you if you would pay shipping. I'll even provide software and lessons in setup and usage. This offer only applies to Ian and Karl. Message me if intrested and we'll sort the details. Keep up the good work.
You'll probably have better luck messaging them through Patreon or ForgottenWeapons.com
Up here in Canada I'm fairly certain an electro-magnetic thing that launches projectiles at sufficient velocity to be practical as a gun would already count as firearm considering that some air rifles are already "firearms" under our law.
you wouldnt choose an SKS over the Garand?
They said a bit on that in the past. The answer was no, and if I remember correctly, some of the arguments were that if you are limited to a 10-ish round magazine, it might as well be a full rifle caliber. Also the Garand en bloc clip is incredibly fast to load, faster than stripper clips.
My local library ha one of those 3d scanners. Point being you could probably find one to use easier than you think.
There's one in my college. For most gun parts it's quicker and easier to just bring out the calipers and measure stuff manually. Unless we're speaking about a cast part with a lot of round surfaces where you can't easily measure features end-to-end.
I still think the Hotchkiss portative is one of the most steam punk guns I have seen.
Suit decompression isn't that much of a risk from what I know of current space suits. Especially since all it takes to repair the majority of the damage is literal duct tape. Even more so if we finally figure out decompressed space body suits, then the only target you have to worry about compression is the helmet and throat seal. The latter which would likely be covered with the helmet, and the former of which would be more durable due simply to it's hardened structure.
So this has brought me an idea for the most impractical steampunk 3 gun lineup: a swedish sjogren, a farquahar-hill, and a Webley-fosbery.
Though I somehow feel the Webley-fosbery is not awkward enough.
10:50 I think the solution to getting a DMR WWSD in a more powerful caliber would be to use the standard lower and chamber it in 6.5 grendel the velocity is similar to creedmoor but bullets are 20 grains lighter
455eley was actually going to make this precise comment but you beat me to it.
Well for what it matters I'd love to see the best ban state guns, as I'm in New York State and have just gotten into shooting and finding it difficult at times get an airgun or black powder guns (even though it's totally legal in my town some companies won't ship it) I'd want to know what should I set my sights on getting in the future when I finally break down and get something substantial.
with you Karl historical fun. Mine would be flint locks.
Follow up to the question about a .308 (or similar) caliber variant of the KP-15 (KP-10?), how many KP-15s would KE Arms need to sell for them to decide they have the capital to create a KP-10? And more importantly, how many KP-10s would they need to sell to conclude that such an endeavor was worth the effort and not a waste of capital they could have invested in a different project?
Build a VR rig, Ian!
Thanks for answering my question, guys. That game is on my summer production shutdown list already =D
Regarding 2gun vids, I thought I would throw my 2 cents in as a datapoint. I don’t watch them generally and if I do, I tend to watch the intro, skip the shooting, and watch the discussion. I find watching dudes spewing lead really boring and your thoughts/discussion about spewing lead infintely more interesting. :) Keep doing whatever you feel is best for you tho :D
Every time M1 carbine conversations come up, I wonder why there's not really a good M1 carbine AR15 option.
I really want to go to West Virginia! ♥️
For your 2gacm matches, would the button retention (ALS) on Safariland holsters be enough? Or should I go button + hood (ALS+SLS)? I have a Beretta 92 series
I wish I had a better way to contact you but for WV Brutality look at Peacemaker National training center. They definitely won't disappoint
Ceramic projectiles. Aluminium or high-density plastic air guns or some sort of electric driver mechanism. No one is gonna ship lead out of the gravity well, but pretty much any place we're going to settle is going to have rock
0:53 Karl said they may be having a Brutality match in West Virginia before Nov.? Whats the scenario, steal back the steam locomotive and run moonshine keggars up a hill then put 2 rounds on target?
44:38 Ignore Mag tech I think development in Pneumatic Weapons as a rules bypass is already happening and will get better. There are so many major Rocket companies in the US that use over 2000psi pressure vessels it is only a matter of time before there is a high-level Rocket Engineer earning 6 to 7 Figures and is into weapons who put these together just for there own curiosity.
Love the sunbeam vs Ford reference
Steampunk is overrated.
Dieselpunk is where it's at.
Btw I feel every time Ian mentions a gun looks steampunk it would more correctly apply to dieselpunk.
