Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said the best generations are mine then those after them and those after them...so they're the best of people .... Secondly..., If you're a layman that means you don't have strong hold on arabic grammar and that old Arabic literature so that you can understand tafseer of Quran without going through translations,and tafseer ....also you wouldn't have knowledge of science of hadith so that yiu could classify which chain of narration is weak or authentic ,also you wouldn't know whats context of hadith and whether there's similar hadith speaking about the same matter but different ruling (i.e abrogating the ruling of previos hadith... You and me as a layman read translation of Quran that's because scholars have translated it into urdu, English for lyaman like us.. You and me (if not knowing arabic well ) still can understand hadiths in our native languages ,Again that Translation someday is done by scholars not layman or ignorants in a random try..you today know rulings for matters (which weren't present in time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ like "aeroplane:how to pray in aeroplane) here also its qualified scholars in fiqh who have given their ruling in light of Quran and Sunnah... although scholars have differences of opinion in matters of fiqh (Which is no problem at all) There's a flexibility in matters of fiqh *NOT AQEEDAH* Ponder upon this hadith Narrated Abu Huraira (radi'allahu tala anhu) : The Prophet Muhammad (salalahu alahi wa salam) said, "(Religious) knowledge will be taken away (by the death of religious scholars) ignorance (in religion) and afflictions will appear; and Harj will increase." It was asked, "What is Harj, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied by beckoning with his hand indicating "killing." (Fateh-al-Bari Page 192, Vol. 1) (Sahi albukhari Volume 1, Book 3, Number 85) This clearly explains how the knowledge of islam will be taken away by the end times *By the death lf scholars* And as a result ignorants will take charge and preach people and mislead them along with themselves.... Like you will see today every ramdom guy coming on UA-cam etc and preaching his personal point of view/ interpretation regarding Beleifs etc ...(excluding some scholars or truthful speakers) ......Refer to the people of knowledge... As Quran gives us hint.... If you don't know ask the people who know (generally speaking they're scholars and students of knowledge)
