    Some OK tips but I would add a few more amendments.
    Firstly the pump wouldn't be turning or have power to it (in most instances) if one of motorised valves was not opening/faulty.
    So I'd recommend checking timer, roomstat, valves then pump in that order.
    Secondly, the Lever on the side of the valves (particularly the honeywell ones in this video) are metal. This means they are conductive.
    A large portion of valves fail due to an internal water leak which can result in these metal casing components of the valve becoming electrically live. This could put you at risk of an electric shock if you were to make contact with these components.
    So if following the tips in this video just exercise a bit of caution.

    Now your into the dark side of the game, where fitting a new boiler is all they know or are interested in. I fixed one the other week where 7 guys had tried to find a fault, but didn't, all being paid of course for the callout some coming back but didn't. The 8th guy talked them into a new boiler which was fitted. He got paid for the boiler a Ideal Logic 30 combi and nothing else. The water side did a power shower and one basin in the loft as it was a old system with a hot water cylinder plus tanked cold water, so running the bath did not affect anything else. This had 2 / 5 wire zone valves, both going back to the volt free link in the boiler. Took these two wires out and put a link back in, which was a temporary paper clip. and it fired right away on heating which was the same feed for the zone valve for the hot water cylinder as being volt free it didn't matter where it got it's feed from but operated whichever zone valve was calling. , one on a room stat the other on a cylinder stat. No problem firing on hot water from the combi side at all. Both Zone valves were working but neither was operating the internal micro switch. Fitted 2 new 5 wire heads, job done and probably was the problem all along. young kids these day don't understand systems or finding systems faults which is now a fact of life even with their Gas Safe tickets. 2 heads I had in the van £30 each plus 2 hours labour, where the customer had paid out around 10 grand in 3 months with no one finding the fault or even looking for it. Sad the game is down to this, but it is getting more some haven't a clue.

    Looks like you have the Danfoss programmer. Mine went faulty after last week's 5-hour power outage (December 2023). When the power eventually came back on, the Danfoss display screen is blank and both LEDs are on. I tried resetting it with the recessed reset button, but it didn't work. Then I switched off the circuit breaker (in the consumer unit) for the programmer, then switching it back on. That didn't work either. Both LEDs are still on permanently and the display screen is blank. This is not the first time the Danfoss programmer has failed after a power outage. The usual fix is to call the heating engineer who fits a new programmer. I've had three go faulty like this over several years. Any comments from professional plumbers or electricians?

    My central heating was okay for 20 years until I was persuaded to fit a new boiler.
    A bunch of cowboys fitted it and now every winter, it won't start.
    Would cost me £150 every winter to get someone out.
    I'm going to drain the lot down and get shut of the CH altogether.
    I've used electric oil filled radiators for last three years and saved a bloody fortune.

    All the green stuff around those pipes, is that normal?
    I got a steam furnace, some pipes, especially by the joints, have some green stuff. Also the pipe that comes out of the furnace, drain to the drain spigot, is all green.
    I also have a hot water pipe, which is green, and have some white stuff. The white stuff looks like small pieces of popcorn. It on the hot water, and about 5 feet from the water heater. But there's like 2 or 3 t's between this pipe, and those are OK.
    But that joint would be easy to fix, it's just screws in.

    Looks like they have got softened water running through that system. Nice way to damage your system. The pump is also installed wrong.water all over the electrical bits.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  4 роки тому

      Interesting comments. Are you a plumber?
      I would love to know how you can see softened water inside the pipes. The leak around the pump valves is lime scale which is common in the London area and is the opposite of soft water.
      The pump is going in the right direction for the flow. Ideally the pump would be vertical to self vent but there are plenty of instances where a horizontal orientation is permissible. The electrical connections are sealed in a box with rubber gaskets.
      Grundfos say : Where pumps can only be installed in horizontal pipework, it is imperative that the pump shaft is horizontal, or slightly higher at the vent plug end. The shaft must not fall below the horizontal plane, even by a few degrees, as this causes premature wear of the top bearing and shaft.
      Pumps should not be installed with the shaft in a vertical plane, as this may lead to dry running of the top bearing, noise and possible pump failure.

    • @Michael-T-G-ps110
      @Michael-T-G-ps110 4 роки тому

      Skill Builder hiya yea it’s my job. The pump just needs the 4 Bolts undoing and turning around so the electrics are not at the bottom it will still pump the same direction, I know there’s a gasket but it’s not ideal and if you read the manual it’s says not to do it that way.
      Lime scale in central heating systems isn’t normally a problem on sealed systems as there’s not a an endless supply of limescale being pumped in if there was a leak or something, it would be evident there’s a leak the pressure will keep dropping and get fixed (hopefully). It tends to be iron oxide a posh word for rust , it doesn’t look like that on the out side of a sealed valve. Iron oxide lines the inside of pumps and pipes etc.
      I live in a hard water area and there are lots of softeners around here. For some reason the sodium in the water reacts with the brass fittings in the central heating and looks as it is in the video. It looks like the brass starts flowering and becoming a bit of a mess getting also getting little marks just popping out of the sides of brass fittings where no join is. Worcester bosch boilers for some reason Especially get affected by softeners.
      They may not have a softener but it would indicate the water is not neutral with a valve in that state. Would be interesting to see if they have a softener.
      Don’t put soft water in your heating it doesn’t do it any good. Thanks for responding.

We all have to pay for our vehicles but you can claim tax relief on your interest on the finance, car road fund, insurance, repairs, service and MOT, we cant! The time you spend in merchants should be accounted for in your price. Some firms only pay statutory sick pay. You can take out insyrance AND get rax relief on the premium.
      Dont think holiday pay is an extra on top of our salary, its not! If I earn 30k a year, its for 52 weeks. If 6 are holidays I still get 30k. I dont get 30k PLUS 6 weeks more, when on holiday. Whatever you earn, when on holiday youre not, "not earning", youre on holiday, the same as us, but you still recieve your income over the year.
