I was thinking a bit more about what I said about the difficulty.
First off, it's early access, I'm sure they will balance it more and tailor it to the target audience.
Second, making a hard game is difficult, because you have to make sure it is hard for the right reasons. Not hard for the sake of it and to just cause frustration.
I strongly believe that "hard" games should only be hard because you need to improve your skill, but sometimes they end up being hard with no way to get past things other than getting lucky.
An example of this is attack telegraphing, Dark Souls is considered a hard game, but when you improve your skill in it, it is a lot "easier". One of those skills is reading the enemies telegraphing their attacks and countering them correctly (parry and riposte, or dodge).
Although it isn't obvious, it also generally doesn't let you progress to places of higher difficulty until you have proven you have what it takes by defeating a boss. You can do that with the starting gear if you are good enough.
The problem I have with the snakes at round 8 is that they don't make me feel like my skill is lacking, they make me feel like I just don't have the gear to survive them. You can't even use your specials to help, they build up to such a number that at a certain point you can't dash or jump away from them because you just end up where other mobs are, and the snakes quickly teleport to where you are and you're stuffed because you have no way to escape, you can't do damage quickly enough to get rid of them, then one barage later you go from 80% health to dead.
You can't escape, turn, take a couple out, dodge, repeat. You just get overwhelmed by numbers, can't get away because of how quickly they catch you, and by the time you've taken one out another four have appeared.
Then you end up lucky if you get 100 pebbles in a round, buy a couple mementos and suddenly you can't afford to buy any more until you've played another 8 rounds.
I do want to play more, because I did enjoy it other than the snakes and I want to see if I'm wrong, or just not understanding how to play the game properly.
I'm just concerned that rather than being "hard" but you want to keep pushing because you can see improvement and see that it is your lack of skill, it's just frustrating because you can get good but still just get completely overwhelmed.
I think we did ok, we made it to round 8 every single time without fail, and got completely overwhelmed every single time without fail, by the same mob.

It looks like the snakes all keep the damage you do to them even when they respawn next to you. I can't work out if they just keep coming till the next level or not (as I haven't got there yet!). Just tried it again solo, and it was the snakes that killed me!
I also will be playing more for sure as I think completing the Picnic will be quite rewarding. Defo a "fu@k yeah!" moment :D
I reckon focusing on the crystals around the map will increase the pebbles gained for sure.

I just was watching Asmongold playing it and he is doing double the damage we were so I guess it's a case of farming the first picnic to get the damage up!
