It's actually because in the game. the developers minimized the facial features to give a more serious, realistic and manageable affect. If you look closely, you can see that Connor's eyes and lips have been slightly minimized, and his eyes were slightly moved further apart.

If you're wondering, Detroit: Become Human did motion animation, meaning they dressed up in tracker suits to make animation much more natural and easier, so they look nearly identical to their respective characters.
It's called motion capture.

Yeah, Its the easiest way to animate realistic human movements instead of keyframing, for example. Using motion tracking is the most common way to animate.

For most of the characters they use face analyzers and body casts to make the features of the game. Sometimes they even have the voice actors act out the scenes.

alex corpus well yeah that's the thing with motion capture. When the actors play a the role of a human (or in this case Androids as well) they most of the time they just take the face as a reference to speed up the animation process.

Today I just saw the whole Story of 'Detroit Become Human' for the first time. I watched the VOD from a streamer playing this game. At first I wasnt really suprised but then I saw the beauty in this game.
Sadly the streamer had a very bad ending and I'm sad that I saw such an ending at first.

It's not just voice acting what they did, they did full body performances, which was captured and transformed into the game engine. It's a new level of interaction between actors and virtual environments, which needs clarification and declaration.

I’m glad they modeled (most of) the DBH characters after the voice actors. It makes it more... real. Because now you know what that character would actually sound like. The opposite is the surprise you get when a UA-camd does a face reveal for the first time. It always feels like they don’t match.
They actually import face scans directly into a 3d program. Then there's a couple extra steps and some manual work to get this result. It also makes sense to do this so the facial structure of the 3d model aligns with the mocap data for more realistic animations.

But then you see this kinder, more humane side to him if he makes more deviant decisions and he ended up becoming likable to me. But as for his voice, It thought it suited him. I thought he was going to be a jerk to be honest by the way he looked and sounded *(and can be)* but he's actually surprisingly relatable, which is why so many people like him.
