Was 14 when I bluffed my way into aliens. I expected the pulse rifle to be a laser gun! From that moment, I fell in love with this rifle, and smart gun.
Adam Savage would be proud of your build! I was surprised to see you do the whole paintjob without taking it apart as I have seen others do and would have guessed was the obvjous thing to do, but you filled up the toy screw holes to make it look way more realistic. Very inspiring! Bit unfortunate that the video doesn't show how you completed the paint job without removing the pump grip. Can't figure that out myself from watching it.

This is so cool. I really wish someone would finally make an M41a replica/pro/toy thing that fully functioned! The Nerf one is probably the best to the stock not extending kinda sucks, and the Airsoft one that's been out and rebranded over and over for like 15 years doesnt have a functioning underbarrel. Both are SO close. IIRC there was a kit way back that allowed you to use an Airsoft Thompson reciever and a sawn off Airsoft 870 to build to totally accurate one just like how the props were made, but the finish project would be like $1500.

@@DaBuild Guess that's why the Pulse Rifle is so popular: In a movie that's literally just the Vietnam War viewed through a sci-fi lens, the Pulse Rifle is as close to a grounded, Vietnam-era firearm as possible in a space faring future full of unnatural horrors.
You have turned this thing into a real beauty! What is that stuff in the airbrush, pigment fixer? I just wish something could be done about the sound, the whirring of the flywheel and the wrong sound of the sound chip.
You would have been better off disassembling it first that way you would not have had to mask anything and you would have better access to removing certain parts like shotgun ejector port and underneath adding the reload port as well as all the shielding holes to see through. This is in addition to removing the inaccurate NERF barrel and adding a flash suppressor to the real barrel (that is what I am doing with mine). The magazine base is also miss shaped and should follow the line of the housing. However you did a great job on the paint and would love to see if you would have taken it further. I also recommend adding a bolt on the charging handle as it is too short. So more ideas for you to further mod it. ;-)
@@DaBuild yeah I noticed that you covered the screw holes. Hehe but it can be undone if you get inspired for more realism which is what I will be doing with mine. My problem will be knowing when to stop.
I think it was quite refreshing to see its just kept the way it is and still looks the best mod I have seen so far. This video totally inspired me to start doing some real projects again. I would normally also take things apart before I paint them but it depends a bit on the item and the molds. I love how the gaps and screw holes were filled and would do the same. I also noticed in the vid some parts around the trigger group that have a real advantage from filling gaps and masking over disassembly. These little details matter making it look real to me and blew my mind in the end result. I would probably still disassemble it first for the cutting work and maybe glue in some fittings for the bolts. The extra nerf barrel doesn't bother me personally, in fact I think it kind of fills up a gap in the original design somehow. Guess they were going for the m60 style barrel but it always looked a litte small to me compared to the rest of the weapon.. But I totally understand if you want it to be movie accurate.
It looks awesome! The only tiny issue I see is that even the parts which wouls be plastic on a real gun (like the pistol grip or the pump) are painted as if they were metal. That's just a small nitpick, though. Other than that it's great!

that's a pretty good job, hopefully i cna get mine to look as good. the main problem with this thing is the sounds are completely wrong. Its fine for a static model but how they could screw up the sounds so bad is beyond me
Oh man, that is a hell of a job. Santa brought me one of these too, and I would LOVE to give it a similar treatment since it does look like a toy as-is. My skills are nowhere near yours, though. I think I'll find a couple used NERF guns at the thrift store to practice on first. :)

In Alien 3 they were black.
I was really surprised how well that looked without all the extensive modding and changes ive seen people do to these nerfs. Came out really well.

Very cool. Wont it be easier if you disassemble the gun before painting. Avoid damaging firing mechanism.

Looks great, personally i would have filled some of the empty unused cavities with some lead to give it some heft when picked up.

Alclad II Lacquers. I doesn't destroy the metal paint finish.
Is it still functional? All moving parts still work and fire? (No spray paint clogged it up?)

It looks awesome! The only tiny issue I see is that even the parts which wouls be plastic on a real gun (like the pistol grip or the pump) are painted as if they were metal. That's just a small nitpick, though. Other than that it's great!

Wow amazing work. Ive been lucky enough to get one recently and im looking to repaint and mod it.
I love the fact you fitted real bolts/head to the build. And the weathering is expertly done.
I would love to do the same mod and add real bolts as you did.
Would you mind sharing what size drill bits were used to replace the bolts ?
Also what were you using for the weathering ?

Thanks a bunch! I believe the big ones were 1/2 inch drill bits and the small ones, 1/8. As for the paint and weathering, everything is pretty much explained in the description. Cheers!

that's a pretty good job, hopefully i cna get mine to look as good. the main problem with this thing is the sounds are completely wrong. Its fine for a static model but how they could screw up the sounds so bad is beyond me

Oh man, that is a hell of a job. Santa brought me one of these too, and I would LOVE to give it a similar treatment since it does look like a toy as-is. My skills are nowhere near yours, though. I think I'll find a couple used NERF guns at the thrift store to practice on first. :)
