    ''The original color of the Pulse Rifles in Aliens has long been a cause of debate. The props originally used on set were actually painted in Humbrol 170 "Brown Bess", not green as is often erroneously stated (although due to on-set lighting, the weapons often appear to be olive green on-screen)''

    • @TarnishUK
      @TarnishUK 2 роки тому +2

      My first thought was "he's going for the actual correct colour". Jonathan Ferguson the curator of firearms & artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum mentioned that on one of his videos. That said I still prefer the OG look to the brown regardless of what the reality was.

      funny thing is when you showed what you were doing I never thought of the pulse rifle in any other color than what you're showing. Didn't even think about green until you brought it up.

      It was not humbrol brown Bess but close to it. Paint was mixed by a factory in Slough and painted by a prop guy I work withs brother he has some original item painted that were from the set. He bought one it on to Ghostbusters last year and I had a good close look, it has a tad more green than brown Bess but just a tiny amount

    I was surprised to see you do the whole paintjob without taking it apart as I have seen others do and would have guessed was the obvjous thing to do, but you filled up the toy screw holes to make it look way more realistic.

    This is so cool. I really wish someone would finally make an M41a replica/pro/toy thing that fully functioned! The Nerf one is probably the best to the stock not extending kinda sucks, and the Airsoft one that's been out and rebranded over and over for like 15 years doesnt have a functioning underbarrel. Both are SO close. IIRC there was a kit way back that allowed you to use an Airsoft Thompson reciever and a sawn off Airsoft 870 to build to totally accurate one just like how the props were made, but the finish project would be like $1500.

    You would have been better off disassembling it first that way you would not have had to mask anything and you would have better access to removing certain parts like shotgun ejector port and underneath adding the reload port as well as all the shielding holes to see through. This is in addition to removing the inaccurate NERF barrel and adding a flash suppressor to the real barrel (that is what I am doing with mine). The magazine base is also miss shaped and should follow the line of the housing. However you did a great job on the paint and would love to see if you would have taken it further. I also recommend adding a bolt on the charging handle as it is too short. So more ideas for you to further mod it. ;-)

    • @sirretsnom3329
      @sirretsnom3329 2 роки тому

      @@DaBuild yeah I noticed that you covered the screw holes. Hehe but it can be undone if you get inspired for more realism which is what I will be doing with mine. My problem will be knowing when to stop.

    • @DCLXVIDS
      @DCLXVIDS 2 роки тому +2

      I think it was quite refreshing to see its just kept the way it is and still looks the best mod I have seen so far. This video totally inspired me to start doing some real projects again. I would normally also take things apart before I paint them but it depends a bit on the item and the molds. I love how the gaps and screw holes were filled and would do the same. I also noticed in the vid some parts around the trigger group that have a real advantage from filling gaps and masking over disassembly. These little details matter making it look real to me and blew my mind in the end result. I would probably still disassemble it first for the cutting work and maybe glue in some fittings for the bolts. The extra nerf barrel doesn't bother me personally, in fact I think it kind of fills up a gap in the original design somehow. Guess they were going for the m60 style barrel but it always looked a litte small to me compared to the rest of the weapon.. But I totally understand if you want it to be movie accurate.

    It looks awesome! The only tiny issue I see is that even the parts which wouls be plastic on a real gun (like the pistol grip or the pump) are painted as if they were metal. That's just a small nitpick, though. Other than that it's great!
