Gregory of Nyssa's Life of Moses is such an amazing text, as it opens up a new way of understanding Biblical stories and symbolism - a way that's new to us, at least. Gregory was very much applying a Greek, mythological, philosophical lens to a story that's often understood as a historical text. Even though Gregory was also open to the historical interpretation of Exodus (the first half of his book is about it!) he found, rightly so, that there is an ocean of deeper meaning that we can apply when looking symbolically. Excellent video!! Super interesting interpretations, and loving the ending too - it perfectly ties into the "Eternal Progress" nature of the Divine that Gregory interprets in the "cleft" moment with Moses. And the artworks are superb! :)
Great video :) St. Gregory of Nyssa is an excellent opener into the Orthodox Symoblic Tradition and the early syncretism of Hellenstic thought with the Jewish stories. Keep it up!

Thank you! I don’t think anyone can accuse the Jewish tradition of being symbolically lacking after reading Gregory’s analysis!
Is there anyway I could obtain a transcript of this? It is fabulous!
