The Oracle at Delphi: Prophesy from Apollo to Socrates in Ancient Greece
The Oracle at Delphi, or Pythia, was the prophetess of Apollo who was believed to speak the words of the Ancient Greek god to those who came to her. Through this look at the Oracle in mythology, history, and philosophy, we can uncover ancient wisdom. To do so, we will approach the Oracle through the three Delphic Maxims, the words which greeted pilgrims at the Temple of Apollo at Delphi: "Know thyself. Nothing too much. Make a pledge and trouble is at hand."
Mythos & Logos are two ancient words that can be roughly translated as “Story & Meaning.”

A philosopher has the unique challenge of expressing that which is beyond us through the limitations of language. For many, this is done through a series of logical arguments; for the Taoist philosopher Zhuangzi 莊子 the Way of Nature, called Tao 道 is best approached in another way, through the powerful, poetic language of metaphor. Zhuangzi sets the tone through the marvelous image of the mythol...
Fall of Phaeton & the Chariot of the Sun: Harnessing the Powers of the Gods (Greek Mythology)
Переглядів 9208 місяців тому
In the ancient days of Greek and Roman mythology, the story was told of Phaeton, the son of the sun god Helios (often equivocated with Apollo) who asked his father to command the chariot of the sun on its journey across the sky. The power of the god was too much for this mortal, and his bold attempt to wield it nearly destroyed all of creation. Today we wield many of the same powers once attrib...

    We could be financially wealthier than 99% but if it never feels satisfying enough because greed is out of control, then we are actually experiencing life as poverty! Have you ever heard a so-called rich person say, "I feel like I've actually made it, now. I will level off now and stop seeking greater profit!" Me neither. These "poor" rich people really ARE suffering! Apart from the mandatory public relations stick, they are not content, they are driven by extreme desire, just like a poverty stricken person. They actually use the term, "hungry" to describe their intense desire. They want, nay, NEED us to try to be like them and become discontent too!

    I asked The Creator (The Lord God in heaven) to send Coyote to peacefully reveal himself to me and my prayer was answered when a Coyote appeared to my dad and I on a foggy night while my dad was driving me home. The Coyote bowed his head to me as a sign of respect before Coyote went back into the forest after doing what The Creator (The Lord God in heaven) sent him to do. I hope that The Creator (The Lord God in heaven) will send Coyote to humble those that do evil unto others. What are your thoughts about that?

      Ah, clever connections! Though it speaks all the more to the success of Vasilisa in being able to hold onto her childlike nature through her mother’s support, since she doesn’t face Baba Yaga alone. And for your other comment, it is definitely interesting how much her imagery correlates to Siberian cultures! Whether that means she comes from something specific or is a Russian symbol of “otherness” is a good question.

    • @hyperbitcoinizationpod
      @hyperbitcoinizationpod 9 днів тому

      @@mythosandlogos Neh, no though. She's not holding on to any childlike nature. This is a story about growing up. She needs to digest her mother's death without losing the link to her ancestors. No child can face Baba Yaga. That's why the warning is given.

      @@mythosandlogos Most of Robbie's songs tell my story. He has been a shadow in my life from before I was born. Listen to his catalogue from the perspective of a father whose first born was raised by another man. Most of the times we meet, he was simply my dad's friend Jaime. In 1997, I was hired to interview him.(I'm not an entertainment reporter and actually argued with my editor that I was the wrong reporter to send.) Contact from the Underworld of Redboy was the result. (My mother Cleo is mentioned in his first memoir. Anyway, when my life feels chaotic I'm very grateful to be able to access your channel as a herald for ancient wisdom difficult to find in media today, at least to the same degree of raw unclouded existence that conveys a magic and mysticism omnipresent, yet overshadowed by the many distractions and demands of the average existence in the Western world today. @@mythosandlogosWatching your videos, I feel I learn so much from them and from you. If you don't mind, I'd like to (attempt) to return the favor. Something I'm working on myself, and that I feel is just great general advice, is recognizing that even after learning and trying to cultivate conduct for many years, there is still lots of suffering. Like in your story on the creation of corn, the protagonist wrestles Mon-Daw-Min for many days before fulfilling his quest. Siddhartha Gautama goes through all of those lifetimes of improving himself, getting closer and closer to oneness each time, yet he still suffers in various ways. When Dante plunges into the inferno and grapples to the greatest heights of Mt. Purgatorio, he finds resolution in knowing that each step forward is towards God, wisdom in the world all around him, and comfort in the darkest places from the grace and benevolence of others who know the way. As he draws nearer to his goal, the journey gets easier but even a great distance from hell it can still be a struggle. Avicii, a personal hero of mine, says it best in a few of his lyrics: Oh I've seen trouble more than any man should bear But I've seen enough joy, I've had more than my share I'm still not done, I'm only halfway there I'm a million miles ahead of where I'm from But I still have another million miles to go What unites all who found the way isn't their special circumstance or ability but how they persevered past the point that many would stop and consistently directed their attention towards that which was truly meaningful. Who among us in our unburnished state knows the heights of compassion the heart can soar to, the magnitude of joy to which the spirit can abide? Do not rest in complacency nor pause overwhelmed at the scope of the journey to come; instead gently coax yourself through being, word, and deed, as if to a lover or dearest friend, into the next ring towards heaven and laugh as your burden becomes a little bit lighter that you ever hesitated for a second in the world below. All the while, hold the whisper that liberation is possible in a single lifetime. Avoid stopping too long to contemplate the beauty of rough edges, pick up that chisel and continue carving out the statue of your divinity however deeply you have to dig into the rock.

    Ah, the myth of the noble savage! Not a word about human sacrifice, cannibalism, inter-tribal warfare, the scalping of enemies and the fact that slavery existed. No, all bad things come from the evil white man. Astonishingly selective view of history to suit flakey political prejudices.
