There is a warning to be added here. Detaching and reattaching the cleaning solution will only work for a short while until the motor gets rusted and freezes. Each time you reattach the cleaning bottle, small needles poke through the rubber cover so that the solution can be pumped to the floor. However the second time you refill your container, new holes are punched. As a result, the motor will eventually freeze due to the solution running down into the mechanism. I've ruined two Swifters this way. A better solution would be to never remove the cleaning solution container and cut a hole in the top to refill it and tape it shut so it won't splash out. However you will always have to keep your mop upright forever and ever.
I use a microfiber towel from the Dollar Tree. I cut it in half and it sticks well to the Velcro of the mop head. My squirter stopped working so I just filled up a spray bottle (again from Dollar Tree) with a mixture of water and white vinegar. I mop by having the mop in one hand and the spray bottle in the other, spraying the floor ahead of the mop. Works like a charm!

I love my Swiffer mop. I've refilled my bottle like that for a while. That's how I learned how to refill my bottle. It's a life saver especially in my back since I have back issues..
Yes, the Swiffer Wet Jet is pretty good on the back (as good as a "mop" can be anyway haha)! That's one of the reasons why I prefer it over a "traditional mop," where I need to bend over a bathtub to wring all the water out. It's exhausting! But with the Swiffer Wet Jet, it's so much more effortless. 😆
My God, you saved my pocket. I bought 20$ worth of extra wet jet bottles. After they are used I will keep the last bottle, use your hack and leave your hack in my dying will to pass on to my loved ones forever. Will beat this company for a million dollars forever Its about time the little guy gets a break from the big monopoly Wet Jet had on us
I literally cut a hole in my swiffer bottle earlier today, filled the bottle, plugged the hole with a paper towel and covered it with tape. We are mind twins. I was just on Amazon looking for a legit reusable bottle that fits the swiffer and one reviewer said to look on UA-cam and here I am. Wow.
I just bought a Swiffer Wet Jet Kit a few days ago. (I had a $25.00 gift card from Office Depot -- the price was $24.99, so other than paying some tax on it, I basically got it for free). I used it for the first time this morning. Wow -- I'm not even done mopping all of the tile floors yet and that pad was D-I-R-T-Y! I can see the wisdom of having reusable pads because I will be going through them fast. Thanks so much for the "hacks" Jenny! I'm almost 62 years old and I'm just now experiencing the Swiffer Duster and the Swiffer Wet Jet. I'm more than a little late to the party here, but I'm glad I found these wonderful things! I finally put the water back in the microwave and when I saw it was boiling, I took it out & stuck the bottle in, let it sit for a bit and tried it. Pinch a Penny with Jenny yes! I was just getting ready to drill a hole when I started worrying about the pressure being the same inside the bottle when I decided to look it up lol. I actually saw from your video how tiny the locking notches were and knew I could force them to bend! I took a thick 1/4” rubber band to get a grip, put a towel over it to give more to grab and kept twisting and it came off!!
Just bought one of these and the little bottle that came with it ran out in no time. I used a pair of pliers to remove the cap. After seeing the lock mechanism, I used a knife and trimmed that portion of the cap away.
I have this wet jet and did the same thing. I really save a lot money. I also have the swiffer sweeper with which i Bought 2 pairs of (12) microfiber towels. With that, I dampen the towels with water and collect the dust off my floors. Then I follow it up with the wet jet. I look forward to cleaning everyday now. Extra tip: i also use lint rollers for my kitchen mats and walk-in mats to collect debris.
The lint rollers is a nice tip, thanks! I’m not sure if I look forward to cleaning every day though. 🤣🤣 But the Swiffer Wet Jet definitely makes it easier!
@@PinchAPennyWithJenny You're right lol these tools do make it easier, less strain on the body, easy to function, no thought is ever put into cleaning now. and yea ima switch my cleaning to 2x a week.
@@fadrian98 Work smarter, not harder! haha. I spread my cleaning out throughout the week to make things easier: Kitchen on Sat. Bathroom on Sun, vacuum on Wed and Fri, mop on Sun, etc.
@@PinchAPennyWithJenny that totally sounds doable. My schedule now is wednesday dust n mop floors along with floor mats. because of my allergies from dust. Then Friday is deep clean which includes the restroom, sweep my driveway, along with floor n mats again.
I tried this and it works. But epic failure on my part. I left it in the hot water too long and it broke the seal that keeps the cleaners in. It was about 4 minutes... Too long. I used a bottle opener... Like the one on kitchen shears to open... That was a victory. However, I should have tried this at the 2.5 minutes mark. So I buy another and try again. This is a great tip and thank you so much for sharing!!!
I tried this and it worked however when I fill it up and flip it upside to test for leaks, it is pouring out of the two holes on the cap that I assume it normally comes out of when plugged into the swiffer mop. I’m hoping this was just a defect in the cap, but I have another new bottle to go through and I guess try this trick with that bottle and hope for the best that it doesn’t end up leaking.
I actually bought reuseable pads in Dollar Tree. You can add a few drops of essential oils for a scent you like. You can use recharegeable batteries. I do.
Thank you for this! Other videos didn’t show me the locking part that you explained so clearly. I was finally able to open mine and make my own solution!
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I just got a Swiffer Jet & ordered the pads. I usually mop & use Dollar Tree items but that would have been useless without the bottle hack. Have a great day‼️

Channel locks got the job done in 3 seconds 😁
I love my Swiffer mop. I've refilled my bottle like that for a while. That's how I learned how to refill my bottle. It's a life saver especially in my back since I have back issues..
Yes, the Swiffer Wet Jet is pretty good on the back (as good as a "mop" can be anyway haha)! That's one of the reasons why I prefer it over a "traditional mop," where I need to bend over a bathtub to wring all the water out. It's exhausting! But with the Swiffer Wet Jet, it's so much more effortless. 😆
Yes, it sure is good on the back. I have 3 smashed vertabrae in my back so I love it on my back
My God, you saved my pocket. I bought 20$ worth of extra wet jet bottles. After they are used I will keep the last bottle, use your hack and leave your hack in my dying will to pass on to my loved ones forever. Will beat this company for a million dollars forever
Its about time the little guy gets a break from the big monopoly Wet Jet had on us
I literally cut a hole in my swiffer bottle earlier today, filled the bottle, plugged the hole with a paper towel and covered it with tape. We are mind twins. I was just on Amazon looking for a legit reusable bottle that fits the swiffer and one reviewer said to look on UA-cam and here I am. Wow.
How do you cut a hole in it? The plastic is so hard.
I'm also a frugal person and I just subscribed to your channel. I'm looking forward to watching many more of your videos! :)
I have tried this so, so many times without any luck. It hurt my hand (I had surgery about a month or so ago. I finally put the water back in the microwave and when I saw it was boiling, I took it out & stuck the bottle in, let it sit for a bit and tried it. I could feel it move a bit which gave me the determination to keep twisting and it worked!! Now I'm going to try the smaller bottle. Ugh! I guess I'll stick with the bottle that opened for now. 😁😕😊
You being excited about it easily opening is making me very excited lol!! ✨ thank you!
Hahaha! Did you try it yet?
@@PinchAPennyWithJenny i watched the original video Wheres the link? . Im so existed too about to boil water for that darn cap and look for that 1 sock .The other is in the Land of lost socks. 😉
I boiled my bottle for 2 minutes, and it worked like a charm. Thanks!
I don't know what i liked more the hack or seeing how excited you where Well done
Dennis
this is really brilliant info; I'm a guy and now the Swiffer seems interesting to me thanks to these really big improvements to their initial locked-down "ecosystem"
I looked up this video to try to help my grandmother and i kinda gave up cause it also didn't work for us so i kept twisting and twisting till about 4 times then it unscrewed
Love this! I mop daily now that I have a Swiffer Wet mop. I prefer the smaller bottle that came with it, it's lighter overall. Refilling today!
Great point! I’m still on that first bottle and looks like it’ll be my only one!
Omg 😱 I just tried this and I can’t believe it worked!! I’m so excited to add my own cleaner! Thank you so much! Still works in 2022!!
I had to watch the entire video a second time just because Jenny is so cute!
Thank you for sharing, I have so many disinfectant liquid large bottles i can dilute & use. It’ll save me so much!!
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I am so tired of spending money on these refills or forgetting to restock on extras. It's so expensive!! Can't wait to see more video from you.
Just moved into my apartment and bought a swifter wet jet. It came with 10 pads. So glad I didn’t buy extra pads and refills….I tried it and it worked. Definitely going to buy the reusable pads and make my own solution. I grew up with pinesol. Definitely love that scent.
How’s you end up taking the top off? Feels like it does not want to come off.
@@goreMagala yeah so I filled a pot with hot water. Then let it come to a boil. When the your swifter solution is empty. Put it in the hot water upside down. Cap-side in the water. Let it sit there for 3 min. Then twist. The hot water will loosen the grips.
@@Dentalman87 thank you so much been looking for a way to open this thing felt like I was going to need a wrench :0
You were the first video I clicked on looking up how I can open the cap, because like you, I knew there had to be a way to open it. My first try was not a success I ruined the seal so I THANK YOU for this great share and now will be following you for more great shares! To save that $$$:)... Your enthusiasm and smile make your videos very welcoming! :)
Glad you were able to open it!! 😊😊
It works!!! Only took 90 seconds and I was able to untwist the cap easily! Thank you so much!
Thank you, I love my stiffer wet jet and tired of buying the refills. And this will save me money and I can add my own cleanser.
Thank you so much, I knew there was a way around it. I found the pads that I rewash, but still use the disposable ones for the bathrooms, now the liquid cleaner I have tried so many ways to add my own cleaner in those bottles because like you said they are not cheap. So thank you you
If there's a way to put the cap on, there must be a way to take it off! haha.
OMG I was over here fashioning extremely sketchy looking syringes from old pens before I stopped to think hmmm... I bet someone else has beat me to this. Thank GOODNESS for you and the original video maker!!!
Hahaha!!!! I had thought about the pen thing too...or maybe even poking a hole and taping it shut. Glad we didn't do that. :D
Thanks! May Jesus continue to bless you and your family
Just bought one of these and the little bottle that came with it ran out in no time. I used a pair of pliers to remove the cap. After seeing the lock mechanism, I used a knife and trimmed that portion of the cap away.
YEAH JENNY JUST FILLED UP MY BOTTLE WITH PINSOLLLLLLLL AYYYYYYEEEE
Good one never thought about Pine sol great scent !
Thank you...I was about to put a hole on that till I saw this video. Save my time...very cool. Thanks again.
Attempt two will be better!!! :)
Hurray it works! Did it for about 90 seconds and twisted right off! 😁
Totally worked!! I only left it in the boiling water for 30 seconds. Thanks
So glad I watched this before I bought a Wet Jet. I just buy the store brand dry pads, wet them with a multipurpose clear, and mop.
It works, boiled the bottle for 90 seconds and the top came off! Thank you so much
I tried this and it worked however when I fill it up and flip it upside to test for leaks, it is pouring out of the two holes on the cap that I assume it normally comes out of when plugged into the swiffer mop. I’m hoping this was just a defect in the cap, but I have another new bottle to go through and I guess try this trick with that bottle and hope for the best that it doesn’t end up leaking.
Thank God! I was upset about having to buy these refills. Now I have a few bottles I can refill.
i was skeptical but it actually worked wow. she genuinely just saved me hella money 💀
Searched for this, found this short and sweet video - and victory!
Awesome! What was your solution that you came up with?
Great hack! Have a wet jet which I love but it’s soooo expensive to replace the pads and cleaning liquid. This is great.
I was about to give up because it wasn’t working but then it did!! Now my house smells wonderful 😍
Win!! haha. I did struggle a bit myself initially.
nothing can replace a good industrial mop&bucket 🪣
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I just got a Swiffer Jet & ordered the pads. I usually mop & use Dollar Tree items but that would have been useless without the bottle hack. Have a great day‼️
Jenny, channel locks works great. Happy 2024. Love from California!😂✌️👍😉😎🌴
I love your enthusiasm! I was considering purchasing one and will be going to get myself one now
I liked the video halfway. When she said she found it in the trash, I was like, "I wanna like this video twice." 🤣
I use a washable pad on my wet jet works great and I can wash it out in tbe sink when I am finished moping
I'm gonna try this. Ive been poking a hole at the top n put water n cleaning solution using the thing for turkey juice to put it in smh.
Lol you are funny 😆
I have the same empty bottle. I’m going to try essential oils to see if I can at least get a similiar effect
Thank you! This is great money saving information. I thought this thing was gonna be kind of expensive to operate you have to buy the refills and the pads and batteries now I can make my own cleaning solution use my own pads and well I’ll still have to buy batteries but that’s OK’ 😉
You can always buy some rechargeable batteries.
This is great thanks so much! I am recently separated n my husband had been cleaning for years bc I run a business n had an office nearby , so I’m trying to get Back in the swing of cleaning my own house n reorganized everything , then thinking where is my wet jet ?
I found pads n cleaner no wet mop with them 😮 32.00 for the starter set now ..
He used a commercial mop n giant wheeled bucket tub that with handles that squeezed string mop out … and idk why ? the house isn’t that big .. men seriously I’m not impressed I despise those mops , they’d freeze up north in winter and stick to the screen door so I’d miss the bus trying to escape that fire trap house ! 🤯
.. no handle , so I searched the garage n found a blue handed n it was my dusty old wet jet n couple more full bottles cleaner n few pads not working probly , no batteries …
so I remembered I did charge several after holidays n yep they are the AA s I needed !
Then I Came on here to find out where the batteries even go !
so got that secret hatch open that now won’t close again , but the bottle holds it whatever.. then to the right I saw this vid n thinking what a great idea ! I
I didn’t expect the reusable pad idea too yay 🎉 thank you so much ! ❤
So I got right on door dash n got the reusable pad at dollar store 8.00 , n that’s it !
My entire house is mopped n smelling fresh and ima refill the bottle with essential oils n witch hazel or whatever I can find works well … I have alot of those I sell them many years now .. grapefruit / lemon / citrus are nice for the method bottle I reuse ♻️.. I think they’d clean floors same ?
Any homemade floor cleaner with EOs recipes let me know !
And now thank God 🙏there’s no giant bucket pail on wheels with ringer n big wet rope mop strings traumatizing the pup 🐶!
N no moldy mop hanging around too long out Back looking n smelling worse than if the floors stayed un-mopped a year !
I’m so thankful for all the tips , it’s also saving the planet bc we’re not throwing all those bottles out after 1 use !
They really should Make a bag of cleaner that refills them somehow , why not ?
So now it will cost next to nothing but the electric to charge the batteries until I find a solar recharger for them …
the sun here in Florida is great for my fan n usb charger for phone n laptop n lights , so I’m sure I’ll find one n it’ll pay for itself in a month !
Anyone know a good solar charger for aa batteries ? Let me know 😊ty ❤️
Just did this with my empty swiffer bottle and it worked perfectly! Thanks so much
$1 (+) store has the most perfect pads that fit. I love this!!
I have an older swifter, and it only takes two batteries. I’ve had it for a long time, but I am going to use this hack. I don’t like buying the replaceable things of mopping fluid either. They are expensive.
Bloody genius. Worked first time. Will never be buying refills again...
Omg I’ve just been trying for an hour to get the lid off and it finally came off. Thank the cleaning gods.
What did you do to get it to finally twist off?
@@TracySaysiDrew I just put it end-up in boiling hot water for like 20 minutes. You have to really let it steep. Be patient. Then dry it off, and use either a rubber glove or a swimming hat (something wth grip) to twist off the cap :)
@@kristinafreeman911 You removed it from the stove, correct? Hmmm...How did the water keep steaming for 20 min., while it's off the stove?
@@TracySaysiDrew I kept it on the stove possibly on a low simmer...
@@kristinafreeman911 Yay! I appreciate the help.
Both things worked perfectly..especially the hack..thanks!!
Microwaved hot water for two minutes stuck it in for 30 seconds and it twisted right off mint
Just tried this. After soaking for 2 minutes it popped right off! So excited about this!
I also love the scent and I will buy another bottle again, but now it won’t be mandatory.🥰
I can't believe it works!!! Yes! Thank you.
Nowthat is a good one! I can’t tell you how many times I got halfway done with the room and then it stopped working because it was empty and I still have the other half to keep cleaning
It worked!!!! Left it for about 2 min on larger bottle ... you just gotta press hard and twist :)
Only place the cap not the whole bottle
Yay!!! Yeah, definitely have to use a little bit of strength haha.
Thanks!
Just grabbed one and thats the first thing I thought to. Just pry off the top. I'm boiling water now and give it a try
I still use my ocedar mop when my floor gets real dirty i have 3 toddlers 🤪 but i like using the swiffer for cleaning up small spills and messes on the floor
I had tried everything to open mine whiteout any luck, but the boiling it for 2 1/2 minutes worked..big thank you.
So nice of you to also include the link to the original video! 🥰🥰🥰
My first swifter wet jet. I like that hack to open the bottle. Thank you so much👍
I took a pair of pliers and gently turned it all the way around one way then all the way around the opposite direction and came right off!
100 thumb up. It worked. I put it in boiling water for 2.5 minutes and it opened so smoothly and nothing melted and the cover was good enough to seal the bottle, no leaks....waw
YOU ARE GREAT! I Love your bubbly personality. Just bought one and was searching on how to use it and found your video with great ideas. thanks
Thank heavens I found this video. Gonna try it now. Everything so expensive since the pandemic especially
I know right!! I was SHOCKED at the prices this weekend when I went to the grocery store.
Thank you for this great tip. Nothing wrong with picking up things that are in good condition.
Totally!! I’ve found so many treasures in the trash. 😂
It came down to my strength so I tried the scissors that came with my cutlery set and it worked after boiling water in micro. That circular piece in the middle of the scissor is a bottle opener just put cap in and use scissor handles.
Glad it worked! :)
She is sooooooooooo cute...you should have her advertising lots of other things...she is personality plus!!
Hi thanks for letting me know how to refill the bottle with the solution. I am spending a fortune just on the solution and pads. I will definitely try it.
Thanks for the tip..you found it well you know what they say. One man's trash is another man's treasure
