This method was terrific! I'm, pleasantly, surprised it actually did work. Thanks! My issue was different - When I pressed the power button, it did not operate at all... so I could not turn off my phone without pulling out the battery. When I replaced the battery, the phone would quick vibrate every 10 seconds or so, but did nothing else. It would not turn back on, nor anything else. I eventually had to remove the battery permanently. The only 2 things I did differently was 1-I used 70% isopropyl alcohol instead of 90% and 2-I brushed my power button with a toothbrush (that I use for cleaning) soaked with the alcohol. Your step-by-step video instructions were excellent. Thanks Again!
I ended up buying a replacement phone 3 months ago, but I just heard the word "boot loop" today, which turned out to be the key to finding your video - and now my son has his very own smartphone to play with! Thanks!
I was ready to pay a local shop $60 to solder a new switch into my S4, but the tip in this video worked for me! I opened it up, used a swab with alcohol, clicked a bunch of times, and the switch began to work again. I was able to test the switch with a multimeter to verify the fix before reassembling my phone. Thank you!
Just wanted to thank you for this tutorial. I managed to fix my Galaxy S3. I thought it was dead until i stumbled across this. Just went to the dollar store and bought an eyeglass kit (for the screwdriver) and some alchohol. Took 10 mins going slow. Easy to follow instructions A+++ Thanks a lot.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Thought I was headed to T-Mobile to drop another $500, and thought I'd do a final google search and found your video. A cell phone repair place said I had a software issue. Cleaned my power button and it is working. Thanks again bro. Wish I could give you a 1000 thumbs up.
Thank you so much! Extended the life of my old S3 that I'm still holding on to.... Very sad that devices these days can only last 1-2 years and start to fail already.
Awesome video dude! It's midnight, and my classes start tomorrow, and my phone started doing the boot loop. Came across your video, and you saved me. Thank you!
Thanks you so much. I was skeptical because the power button did not appear to be stuck and was still clicking convincingly when pressed, I also did not see any actual dirt coming out at any point and yet it resolved the issue. Very good and thorough explanation. You would be a good teacher!
Seems to have worked! Thanks! I was about to replace the switch when I found this video. Saved me the hassle of soldering tiny components. Thanks again!
Thank you! I thought I was going to need to buy a new phone but this worked for me. The hardest part was finding the right size bit to get the screws out.
It worked. My S3 was continuously bootloop but I didnt thought it was a hardware issue, but software. After disassembling and clean everything is back as it was before. Thank you!
Was about to remove the switch because I saw the second method first but I'm glad I came across this video after because it fixed my problem. Thank you so much for sharing this info.
Just sent you $20 for making such a clear video that gave me instant results. Anyone who this video helped should do the same using the link in the upper right corner. If you took it to a shop, it would have cost you more than that and taken the same amount of time, *if* they could do it right away.
This worked like a charm! My antenna stopped working after though, so I had to take it apart and connect the antenna and the tap on the connector lightly with something hard, now it's back to working!
SWEET!! I thought I would try this before taking the button off, and it worked!! At least it appears to have fixed it, no issues so far. Instead of alcohol, I used electrical contact cleaner in a spray can. I figured it would help blast anything out. I also cleaned the button on the inside of the case. I was surprised of the dirt that came out from there. Thanks man!!
Worked! I would add that I also cleaned the area where the "external" power button connects with the "internal" power button. I pulled out lint from that area. Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much. This helped me solved my issue with my galaxy s3. It took a while to track down what had actually happened with my phone (boot loop/no boot) and I was about to unlock an iPhone. Luckily this solved the issue. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, my S3 was driving me mad with constant on/off issues and a touch sensitive power button! But your cleaning trick worked! I did however broke a small piece of plastic from the microphone module, it still works so i ain´t complaining :)
Hello! I have been trouble opening the back of the phone (the screws). I was wondered if you were using a special type of screwdriver. I am using a standard Philips screwdriver (a short one :yikes:)
Unbelievable! It took me only about 15 minutes total to take it apart, clean the switch, put it back together and boot up successfully with no more sensitive switch issue! Thanks for the guide. I was ready to buy a new phone but I guess I'll get a few more months out of this relic :P
I dnt have a boot loop problem but it keeps lockin and asking if I want to power down the device when the button is bumped in the slightest even if it by something like a fold in my bed sheets when the phone is placed on the bed it also powers on the second the battery is put back into the phone I do have children with extremely sticky dirty fingers im just afraid if I take my phone apart im going to seriously damage it trying to clean the button (which most likely needs done) any tips for an accident proned clutz that probably shouldn't handle anything sharper than a feather? I set my phone so the power button no longer locks the screen but I know that's not going to completely solve my problem if there is and most likely is any gunk trapped inside my device please and thank you :)
hey so i did what you instructed in the video but every time the battery goes on the phone tries to turn on but doesnt so idkn what else it could be or if i should try it again...please reply thanks.
hey,,,it worked on my 4 year old s3,,,but remember to clean out the inside of the external button,,,on the piece of casing that you removed. It will be dirtier there than on the internal switch,,,,unless you dropped it in the punch bowl or something extreme like that. tHanks for the tutorial
cJinL Not sure what you were hoping for... I have a decent (hobbyist) background in electronics and this seems very noninvasive compared to replacing the switch itself. Not sure how else you would fix the problem.
+Jacqueline Dzandu Must.... resist.... to make a stupid joke....... The Phone will get drunk and all data will be deleted from the previous night. FUCK i tried :(
you made my day!!! thank you so much!! this works for me after the 4th try!! so hang on and repeating guys :P for me it works with lighter gas, am glad to not remove that damn button! :)
Tried it, and it didn't help. I've noticed, that after doing slight bend of my phone, it stopped boot looping, but after adding a bit of force on right side of it, nearby power switch, it started boot looping then..
I have a similar issue. I use an otter box defender case. When I snap the phone in and out of the belt clip, it seems to momentarily unstick the power button. (In this way I am able to power the phone back on, by repeatedly snapping the phone in and out of the belt clip, until it finally powers up.) So there is something about flexing the case that temporarily unsticks the button. (Note I haven't attempted any repair yet.)
My power now turns on to the ''Samsung screen'' then cuts off.. I tryed holding down the vol button with power to reset the phone. The Andriod robot comes on but again, phone shuts off and auto starts back up again. Feels lke its caught up in a loop. Any ideas anybody. Much appreciated.
90nadz I have the same problem what is happening is that the power button is pressing itself causing it to not be able to turn on (i am thinking about opening it up this weekend) I am not a professional or anything i know this is happening on my phone just wondering if this could help you in anyway (might not be your problem so cant guarantee it )
shashaank srivastava I already tired opening and following the video steps. Unfortunately this did'nt resolve the phone issue. So, I tried Odin platform to format the OS/re install. Still no luck. I've handed my phone to a mobile repair shop and hoping they'll be able to fix it for me, if not then there's no cost. I hope you have better luck then myself, in fixing your phone over the weekend!
In case anyone is wondering why cleaning the switch has unusually limited effect and the problem soon returns, apparently a coating on the spring inside the switch peels off and makes contact. I'm confident that the failure rate is 100%, if the phone lasts long enough.
ElphaTutorials Thanks for the reply. Finally got it back on, but power button issue still exists so I think you are right. I will remove the power button, and hopefully that fixes it. Thank you for the tutorials they are very helpful!

Dude. You saved my S4, and therefore all my recent photos, and my money, with this method. Alcohol worked. Thank you so much.
It worked! I bought a precision screw set and some alcohol from the dollar store for a grand total of $4. You, sir, are a legend.
Awesome video dude! It's midnight, and my classes start tomorrow, and my phone started doing the boot loop. Came across your video, and you saved me. Thank you!

Its working for now! after 1.5 days of constant rebooting with no chance of using it! Its working! Thanks for the walkthrough!
Was about to remove the switch because I saw the second method first but I'm glad I came across this video after because it fixed my problem. Thank you so much for sharing this info.
Worked! I love how we can still fix things ourselves even on the cell phones...
Just sent you $20 for making such a clear video that gave me instant results. Anyone who this video helped should do the same using the link in the upper right corner. If you took it to a shop, it would have cost you more than that and taken the same amount of time, *if* they could do it right away.
Worked like a charm! But instead of using alcohol, I used a contact cleaning spray. So far, so good! Thank you very much.
Thanks for posting this, dude, Simple to follow step by step instructions. Tried it on my S3 as power button playing up and so far so good.
This worked like a charm! My antenna stopped working after though, so I had to take it apart and connect the antenna and the tap on the connector lightly with something hard, now it's back to working!

I am so thankful for this, I use my phone all the time as rideshare, and this worked perfectly!
Thanks mate you saved me. My phone was restarting all the time like the power button keeping on. Thanks to this tutorial i ve managed to repair it.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial, Elpha, it worked perfectly for me---my endlessly rebooting Galaxy S3 has not been revived!!
works like a charm, took minutes to fix it. I use perfume instead of alcohol. Thank you very much
Excellent instruction and video illustration! I followed every step and it fixed the problem! Thank you, thank you!
Thank you. This video helped me a lot! My son is now happy.
You are amazing for sharing this vital info. Fixed my cell, no problems!
Just did this on my S4 power button and it worked! Thank you very much!
Thank you so much!
Just got an S3 and the power button was causing so much trouble! This helped so much!
Thank you so much. This helped me solved my issue with my galaxy s3. It took a while to track down what had actually happened with my phone (boot loop/no boot) and I was about to unlock an iPhone. Luckily this solved the issue. Thank you so much!

Wow, I can't believe this worked. I was getting ready to rip off the power button or buy a new phone. Thanks!
Ripping the button off is the alternative and valid solution.
I am also surprised this worked, but it did. Thank you ElphaTutorials.
Hello! I have been trouble opening the back of the phone (the screws). I was wondered if you were using a special type of screwdriver. I am using a standard Philips screwdriver (a short one :yikes:)
Thanks, this fixed my power button. I used alcohol with 70% concentration and it worked
This fixed my Galaxy s4 power button, thanks a bunch!
Unbelievable! It took me only about 15 minutes total to take it apart, clean the switch, put it back together and boot up successfully with no more sensitive switch issue! Thanks for the guide. I was ready to buy a new phone but I guess I'll get a few more months out of this relic :P
It's not a relic, yet...
Thats awesome, thanks for responding and thanks to the Elpha Tuts for the video :)
AMAZING! THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOU HELPED ME IN MY TIME OF GREATEST NEED AND DESPERATION, AND FOR THAT YOU MAY HAVE ALL MY GRATITUDE
Thanks so much bro I fixed my phone!! You earned another subscriber! !
thank you so much. I cleaned it up and it works before I removed the button.
Very informative, thanks.
Sadly the alcohol trick didn't work for me. Looks like I'll have to try your other method.
Thank you so much for posting this. It seems to have worked for me.
Excellent guide! This worked for me! Thank you!
hey so i did what you instructed in the video but every time the battery goes on the phone tries to turn on but doesnt so idkn what else it could be or if i should try it again...please reply thanks.

sorry to hear that mine still doesnt work i had to just buy a new one bc i was told the phone its self is not working properly :/ hope u fixed yours
Smack Method worked great. Thank you!
Bro, wanna check what kind of alcohol did you used? will nail remover be ok?
90% cleaning alcohol or higher
ElphaTutorials Would %70 percent be ok? as that is all i have in my house and i don't want to go buy more
ElphaTutorials so is nail remover okay or not?
ElphaTutorials forgot to say this but thanks to you I saved my phone :D was about to remove the switch then I saw this thx so much
hey,,,it worked on my 4 year old s3,,,but remember to clean out the inside of the external button,,,on the piece of casing that you removed. It will be dirtier there than on the internal switch,,,,unless you dropped it in the punch bowl or something extreme like that. tHanks for the tutorial
What sizes of screws does it have?
www.ifixit.com/Tools/Phillips-0-Screwdriver/IF145-005-3
You'll need something like that.
incredible, this really worked!!! Thank you man! :)
how do i know if the fact my phone doesn't finish booting the power button is the problem?
Can't seem to get the plastic plate to come off. Afraid I'll snap it in half. It's stuck on the end with the USB port.
Worked like a charm for me as well. But I used electrical contact cleaner spray rather than alcohol.
Worked like a charm! Thanks!
Worked perfectly, thanks!
I done this, after cleaning and putting it back together it powered on first time. Thanks
This worked for me, thank you!
You saved my ass, thanks!
It's alive :)
took off the antenna and its not sticking back on.... what do i do
Fixed mine to, THANKS!
will it affect any of my internal memory?
As long as you use it only to clean the switch, nothing wrong should happen.
It works! Do you accept donations? :)
It worked, Thank you!!
This is "less invasive"?
Other method (in the video description) forces you to rip off the switch. So yes.
haha i'm thinking the same thing cJinL. not that its a problem to take apart, but the "less invasive"
cJinL Not sure what you were hoping for... I have a decent (hobbyist) background in electronics and this seems very noninvasive compared to replacing the switch itself. Not sure how else you would fix the problem.
Cheezor
They are commenting on the choice of words. Invasive: "characterized by or involving invasion; offensive:"
worked for my s3, thank you!
What should I do when I accidentally turn my phone in public??
Thanks! This video really helped!
Thank you Man my Phone doesnt restart now :D
Tried all the rest but this worked the best! Thank you eh :-)
It worked, Thank you!! :)
Thank you. This worked for me.
hey, will this erase anything on my phone ?
+Jacqueline Dzandu No it won't.
+Jacqueline Dzandu Must.... resist.... to make a stupid joke.......
The Phone will get drunk and all data will be deleted from the previous night.
FUCK i tried :(
you made my day!!! thank you so much!!
this works for me after the 4th try!! so hang on and repeating guys :P
for me it works with lighter gas, am glad to not remove that damn button! :)
+Sanktus Pumpus fluid lighter gas* not from the lighter itselfs!
+Sanktus Pumpus lighter fluid gas?
Thanks! rescued my phone, much appreciated
Awesome video! Thank you!
Thank You !! This worked well for me ^^

Can you clean the power switch with 'Apple Cyder Vinegar' as an alternative...?
90nadz No, please don't do that.

90nadz There was another method you could have tried: ua-cam.com/video/3Glllc7bEJs/v-deo.html
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have saved my life :D I really thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It worked !!!!! Thank you so much !!!!
Damn. Broke the antenna...any suggestions?
+Collin Crisp Buying one off ebay will be cheap :)
Worked for me - thanks
Worked great for me, though I used 70% alcohol. Thanks.
Thanks! It worked!
Thanks! worked for me :)
Worked for me! :)
In case anyone is wondering why cleaning the switch has unusually limited effect and the problem soon returns, apparently a coating on the spring inside the switch peels off and makes contact. I'm confident that the failure rate is 100%, if the phone lasts long enough.
You saved the day ! ty !
I think this worked for me :)
thank you very much =)
The great it work u r magic 👍
Thx*
Just clean it again if the switch ever stops working again.
Can't get it to turn back on, but with the battery in it vibrates once about every 5 seconds. What does this mean?
Kyle Filter Honestly the switch sounds broken, but I couldn't be sure. Try this if you want: ua-cam.com/video/3Glllc7bEJs/v-deo.html
ElphaTutorials Thanks for the reply. Finally got it back on, but power button issue still exists so I think you are right. I will remove the power button, and hopefully that fixes it. Thank you for the tutorials they are very helpful!
ElphaTutorials can i use zippo fluid as cleaner ?
+Mi šo Nope, even alcohol can damage your phone if used improperly.
I love you.
worked on an galaxy s2
This method should work on any phone really. Glad to hear. It can even work for the usb port, if it has stopped working as well..
Thanks for this excellent tutorial, Elpha, it worked perfectly for me---my endlessly rebooting Galaxy S3 has not been revived!!
It worked!! Thanksss
Worked for me!!! :)
