Nice size salmon. I'll take a hut on the lake rather than a 2 story cabin miles back in the woods. Lakeside property is cheap if you don't have road access. If you can drive a snowsled to an inland cabin, you can drive/boat to the lake. Back in the '70's and '80's I occasionally caught large non-silver male salmon with a huge hook bill. They tasted terrible. A guide friend said that they were the male version of the Atlantic landlocked salmon. I didn't buy it. I caught several male silver salmon that looked much different and tasted great. The old-timers said that these were the original landlocks that were only part of a few Maine watersheds connected to the sea (by river). The guide promised me that if I caught a female version, he would take it to the nearest fishery biologist. I finally did catch that fish, but he lied to me, only called the biologist and threw my fish away. I caught more fish than any ice fishermen in the area. I caught fish that biologists could not identify. Other fish that were not known to bite in the winter. Some of us believe I wrestled with a laker through the ice for 1 1/2 hours that may have been close to 50 pounds. There are in thar!
Salmon can be almost anywhere. I do tend to look for some type of stricter near buy like rocky bottom, boulders, points.. areas they can push bait into. I’ve caught them over 80ft of water too..
Banner day.

@@Randy777day our cabin is about 500ft from the lake.
Excellent! What’s is legal to keep the salmon? Need some on the smoker
The smaller one might have been close, but the larger 3 were keepers. Once camp is done we will be doing that!
Do u look for any drop offs or do u just put your traps right under the ice on a gradual slope?
