WHW #52: Souled out 1998

- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Souled out 1998 may be one of the best shows in the post Starrcade 97 era of WCW, and there is a lot to like about this show, so it's no wonder why. Flair vs. Hart, Giant vs. Nash Debacle, 8 man luchadore extravaganza, Rey vs. Jericho, and so much more. But this is What Happened when Mondays with Tony and Conrad so there might be a Lois run in, there could be a GOAT call in, and there definitely is unrelated rant or two relating to what is now a "collector's Edition" of a former WHW Mondays shirt. This will be an episode that will be talked about, and certainly one that should not be mossed. See for yourself as we start off the new year with bang on What Happened When Mondays with Tony Schiavone and Conrad Thompson!

I am sorry but Tony Schiavone could make taking a dump sound like a "REAL EVENT' worth spending money to watch!
He (WAS) the voice of WCW, and should still be involved. Nothing wrong with good ol JR, but he should have been with WWF or TNA.. Give me Tony any day compared to a Mike Tenay, or whoever!
And it's okay to have an opinion... To many including myself....Bret (IS) a (TOP 5) guy and most DEFINITELY ahead of Flair! :) Can Tony imagine what would have happened if they had used Bret properly looking at how he was literally the hottest thing in pro wrestling in late 1997! You must admit that much! Everyone was talking about Montreal.. EVERY ONE! Even Tony would have to admit that!!! Starrcade 1998 should have been Bret VS Hogan for the strap. No heel turn in 1998 and a Hart Foundation reunite in WCW.. If they had used Bret right from get go, had him on TV night after Montreal, could have been the final nail in WWF's coffin! They were that close!
El Dandy's biggest claim to fame is when Bret Hart put him over in a promo. Don't ever underestimate El Dandy
Uhhh I think he has better claims to fame then that…
My dude said,"I need a kidney" lmao fuuuck!
Anyone else hate the bleeps during the poppa pump bit?
You guys are so easy to piss off
"Get up brother we have a company to bury!" lmfao
I busted a gut when I heard that line. 👍
Rest in peace pro wrestling before 2001 we will mourn you forever 🌹
Start at 5:32
I love Tony S. Vince not taking him and Buff Bagwell were the biggest blunders of the WCW acquisition.
Joseph Martinez he did take Buff. Buff blamed JR for getting him fired. Apparently his mom called in for him or some shit lol. I'm sure you know but you did say Vince didn't take Buff.
the restaurant reviews were pure gold!
46:36 - Tony and Conrad predicted the WWE/FOX deal.
El Dandy is a jam up guy
Just watched the whole thing on the network loved it
"Folks i needs a new kidney desperately" god damn that's funny shit
I love the concept of SOULED OUT but it's NOT a WCW pay per view
WCW vs nWo SOULED OUT (1998)
This nWo event should further the storyline of World Championship Wrestling "fighting back" (from the previous year's mockery) to Sting beating Hollywood Hogan.
It's WCW vs nWo SOULED OUT (1998) WCW against nWo and WCW putting on better matches than nWo
Where's THAT logo?
WCW > nWo
WCW < nWo
Of course there's the spray paint "X" over nWo
Listening to this brought back a lot of memories I can't believe you guys got me on the whole Billy Silverman being related to comedian Sarah Silverman that was hilarious also very funny bit about Scott Steiner his restaurant you guys crack me up thanks for the laughs!
La Parka was just awesome.
love la parKa
Ric beating Eric was the end of WCW.
Speaking of Souled Out 97. I would love for Conrad to do an episode with Eric Bischoff. Please make it happen. It'll be a great laugh. I know he's mentioned aspects in other episodes, but I would like to hear a full extended version
if wwe would offer tony
a job i would maybe watch it
el dandy 4 life
Who are we to doubt el dandy
Please bring back the #Steinerized shirt and also do a V2.0 on Conradized as Shoney’s touched up their lettering.
I love this fucking show!! Low key big snatch 😂😂😂
Tony should go with one of those oversized cheques to Steiner. Like he won publishers clearing house
You know...I can admittingly admit that Bret may be bitter or terribly shrewd in his standards, and or HE MAY HAVE HAD A FUCKING STROKE. I can do that, and still have him RIGHT up there with Flair and Hogan, and Mach, & Austin and the Rock. To me, he's up there. And I thought this match with Flair was awesome! But I love Schiavone's "goodness gracious" response, so authentic. Us Hitman fans are numb to it, baby!
I thought Bret and Ric should have closed Souled Out. Crazy that Lex Luger and randy Savage went only 7 minutes and they went over, It was a great ppv. Tony and Conrad continue to hit a home run with these watch alongs. Not surprised to hear Hogan had creative control. That political move by Ted Turner was him doing anything to beat WWF and Vince McMahon.
From the Bischoff bit around 1:41:00 through the Ham Cubes promo is some classic shit. I never dont laugh out loud.
The problem that no one addresses is that, despite having great numbers and selling all that merch and the ratings, the end was near because they did nothing to SUSTAIN this. They simply had too many hours of TV and too much PPV to book, too many egos on the roster and an arrogant guy in charge in Bischoff.
37:05 I never thought I'd hear the phrase "Fuck you, Terry Fox!" in my lifetime. For context Terry Fox is a Canadian hero who ran a marathon across Canada essentially on one leg for cancer charity.
I really believe 1998 was the last good year in pro wrestling when it comes to storytelling shock value and overall great entertainment after 1998 ended it was all downhill and by 2001 pro wrestling was no longer relevant as someone who watched both the WCW and the WWF during the early 90s through the Monday night war era that timeline of wrestling could never happen again and it could never be topped that’s what I mean when I say wrestling was pretty much dead by 2001
Tony is right about those Lucha Libre rules. Apparently a 4 man tag team can pin a single man, too...
I find it funny when people shit on Lucha Libre wrestling considering it's basically a style of wrestling for an ENTIRE COUNTRY. They love it in Mexico and it makes a shit ton of money so it's a bit disrespectful to knock it as if it's complete shit despite the amount of great wrestlers that have started in Mexico doing the Lucha Libre style.
Those kidney jokes don't sit too well anymore. Is what it is. Much love
It's funny to hear Conrad all over Tony on Bama beating uga.
5 years later, uga is 2 time defending champ. Last laugh to Tony.
I'm not a Bret Hart fan by any means, I've always found him quite boring, but the guy is definitely in the same league with Ric Flair when it comes to in ring work. The dude was really damn good despite how I feel about him.
I had a 2nd row seat right where Nash dropped the Giant on his head
Did the entire building shake when he hit?
The commentary for Giant and Nash is Fuckin Gold DEFF WATCH ALONG
That artwork is horrifying
The bleeping towards the middle got excessive
tony the man
flair the man
Larry Nabisco
time does go by
i paid for this ppv
19.95
23:00 funny af
I like when Tony says what's your name again to conrad and I love what conrad says my name is roll tide mother fer
he wont go too nfl nick saben
great opening not song Banter
I can’t believe giant wasn’t injured at all
Giant was hurt by the powerbomb
Proof?
2:05:00 HAHAHA
1:13:06 some Bluechew could probably help with that
Bret Hart is the most overrated wrestler ever
Flair is overrated as hell. Bret was right about this one. Tony has this weird loyalty to Flair which precludes him from being open-minded about Ric.
Over Rated ? I don't think so. To appreciate Flair wrestling skill level you can seperate it into 4 decades. 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s. He was an Excellent wrestler throughout his career. Even at the end he could still out work alot of his cohorts. Bret was definity a top wrestler though, but IMO Flairs #1 All Time. If anything Brets promo skills seperate him from Flair and Shawn Michaels.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
El Dandy is a jam up guy.
