You can't go wrong starting with Hellboy and then branching out towards what characters catch your interest. One of the nice elements of the Mignolaverse is how it routinely throws in flashback stories, so nothing really REQUIRES you to read it chronologically. We did a couple episodes on Hellboy a while back and praised it for it's unique storytelling format, how the writers essentially craft a full history, but take their time filling in all the gaps/years. Everything in the universe is a blast, all keeping the same consistent, spooky yet realistic tone. Expertly crafted.
One of my favorite aspects of the Mignola universe is how each spinoff seems to represent a genre which makes up the whole of the amalgamation of the storytelling styles in the Hellboy/BPRD books: Pulp, Victorian Horror, War Books... etc.
Thanks! Considering picking up the first Hellboy volume after watching and loving the first film (thanks for clarifying that they're nothing alike as well). Seems like a pretty awesome series to get into! :)
Bro... you can’t do a “How to start reading” video and then start talking about deaths within the series. Spoiler or not just stay away from that subject entirely. It’s totally not needed for this subject. Just my two cents, still liked the video and have recently started reading all the Hellboy Omnibuses
Thank you. This was a good summary of the main books in this line. I've had an interest in Hellboy since I got the first Library Edition Volume, but I feel like BPRD would be something I prefer and I'm boot completely won over by the early Hellboy stories. Maybe Witchfinder. So this was useful.
I love how hellboy represents the way The Lord uses those who seem to be the lowest (hellboy a person who was born out of evil circumstances) to do great things with Jesus Christ’s redemption.
Just found your channel. Thank you thank you posting this. I just got the Devil you may know and didn't realize it's part of a long running series. Should I read any books before reading the devil you may know? Cheers.
Man trust me I get it. This channel is all about budget friendly. You can read the Hellboy stuff straight through Hellboy in Hell BUT his story really doesnt end until recently when B.P.R.D wrapped up B.P.R.D The Devil You Know which is the ending to the series going forward in the timeline.
I want to introduce my friend to Hellboy. I want a book that contains one story in that volume, which vol. do you recommend me to pick up, other than the first volume.
Mike Mignola said once that he didn't want the movies to be an EXACT representation, more of a reimagining which is okay, as long as it works
sonicBOOM220 Like a good adaptation should be.
Hellboy movies aren't exclusive in that approach. Almost every comic book movie ever made goes for that same approach.
too bad that they didn't work

Everything you just said contradicts eachother.

Witchfinder and Lobster Johnson are my cup of tea
I really hope the remake follows a similar tone to the comics. Diving more into the horror elements.
Just in time, I finished Vol 3 of Hellboy yesterday so this video couldn't come at a better time.
What did you think of Hellboy being in Injustice 2?
Favorite comic book universe ever! Can't wait for the new BPRD issue tomorrow. D:
Another awesome video mate 👍🏻
I think its make a good tv show

Can you do a series like this on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?
Just found your channel.
Thank you thank you posting this.

I started with the Mignolaverse with Amazing Screw-On Head. Completely seperate from Hellboy though.
I read upto hellboy omnibus vol 2,so do I need to read bprd to see conclusions of story threads or to continue to omnibus vol 3
You dont HAVE too but the series tie into BPRD the more you go on. Especially the last few volumes.
@@HardcoverReviews I am on a budget, man. So is it really essential
But I need to know as much story as possible

Didn't you already make this video?

Hi, can I start with BPRD Hell on Earth HCs.? I don't have any prior reading of any of the Mignoloverse.
What about the ongoing series?
Hasn't it been dead since 2011?

Hellboy vs v for vendetta, who wins
Dr Comicman I think V
That's kind of silly. They represent very different settings.
Hellboy stomps
@@tacticalsweater5119 honestly, looking back, I'm inclined to agree 😂
How about spawn? Or Ash Williams instead?
