He’s the reason why you STAYED in med school 😂 Without this mans inspiration I wouldn’t have got on top of my med school apps literally after his videos I got inspired
You are a natural movie maker, story teller, conveyor of inspirational messages. You are more than a excellent you tuber (that seems to have just started out). You can find a niche here because you are soo engaging! Well done love you videos
Two years ago, I bought my 2nd gen 256 gig 12.9 inch iPad Pro. I had previous experience with the iPad Pro, so I was comfortable with spending $1,000. What I didn’t know was that it was legit going to change my life. The iPad Pro is a perfect device for note taking, video/photo editing, drawing, movie watching, FaceTiming, texting, etc. I have never been more impressed and satisfied with a product. I also get bored of new things very easily, but after two years, I have yet to get bored of my iPad Pro. If you are thinking about getting one but are hesitant because of the price, trust me when I say it will buy you time, effort, and there’s nothing else like it. Great video!
Funny…Just an observation here. It seems like most of the UA-camrs who evaluate iPad note taking apps are medical students creating complex and colorful notes. It seems to me we may be at risk of having a future army of medical professionals who possess excellent handwriting skills. All kidding aside, your videos represent the true ‘Gold Standard’ of reviews. They are creative and inspiring. Thank you.
Although I admit Notability has some nice features, I can't live without a decent folder system that Goodnotes has. Only having dividers and one layer of folders doesn't cut it for me: I need to be able to split things into different areas of my life, different years, different semesters, different classes, different subjects, and really anything else. Only Goodnotes does this for me.
I agree about writing in GoodNotes: it’s better for the experience of writing, but if I may suggest a use case for Notability: syncing recorded talks, lectures, meetings-in person and online-with writing. It’s surprisingly useful to click on something you wrote and have Notability go to that part of the recording so you can listen while reviewing your notes in context. Its also useful to watch your writing light up as you listen along with the recording.
8:40 GoodNotes actually has a vertical scrolling ability. If you go into the notebook, click the 3 dots on the top right, and set your scrolling direction from horizontal to vertical and it’ll be exactly like Notability.
Hes so soft and insightful, every single video is so well structured, competent and helpful. Besides that, his whole aura is just very calming. I‘d wish to have him as a bestfriend
Your videos are incredible, the quality and editing for someone just starting out is amazing! I’m surprised you don’t have more subscribers, I’m excited to see you grow cause you’re definitely worth the watch!!
Indeed good videos . no doubt about it . But now a days its very easy to learn these editing stuffs from skillshare and youtube in this internet world. Anyone can do it. What separates from others is how well he connects with his audience sharing his knowledge. I dont think with only video quality or editing amazing is the only reason for him to grow so fast in youtube.
This is so random, and I am only a minute and 40 seconds into the video, but I just have to say this. This content thus far is TOP TIER. The music, the quality, the background...you gained a subscriber within a minute and 40 seconds. Props.
I’m glad you mentioned your writing experience in detail. The other videos I watched preferred Notability in that regard because they said it was like writing on paper, implying that Goodnotes wasn’t as natural as Notability. So your comment that writing on Goodnotes “was a million times better than paper” quickly captured my attention. Very nice video overall. I’m also thinking of getting both apps and discovering my own study method with them.
Yeah it really is personal preference. Some people like Notability’s writing mechanics - especially if they use cursive. But yeah my handwriting is suited more to GoodNotes.
I love how the lamp colors in the background represent Goodnotes (our left) and Notability (right), based on the background colors when you demonstrated each. And your shirt color betrays your true favorite!! Excellent video!!!
Where did this guy come from? His videos are phenomenal! I’m looking forward to all of your future content. I’m astonished by the quality of your videos and the way you explain!
I loved it, I also started using my iPad to write in my second semester of University. It was the beginning of a new stage of my life, it improved my grades and my level of concentration and my physical health. In an induction activity I discovered that my 🎒 weighed 4 kilos. That's when I decided to look for other options. In my experience Notability it is superior as it has the option to record and you can study that way and complement your own notes. Your writing was recorded as three milliseconds faster. Goodnotes 5 surpassed all that in this version.
I'm hella late here but if you use the audio recording feature, does that make the files of your notes really large? On that 64gb iPad life so storage is crucial haha
I’m 60 yo and have beeped out of school for a minute....I’m craving going back again just to have fun taking notes!! This certainly hits all of my important note-taking points!!
Thank you for actually choosing a winner between these two apps. Most youtubers leave us hanging on their opinion and try to be as equal as possible. However, you gave a clear personal opinion on the app you prefer and a clear reason as to how you reached that decision. Great video. Very helpful.

I bought an iPad for Procreate to draw, but then I realized it could be used for notes as well and I’m very excited to start buckling down on my notes and evolving the way I learn. Thank you for everything that you’ve done and created!
I intend to make some videos in the future that go into how I learn and what goes on in my head when I am trying to make notes, which I think might be helpful.
I like how you presented the usage of the two apps depending on purpose - filing / storage of important references or documentd and more free-style notetaking. I think I’d give that a try in my office workflow as well. Keep those vids and tips coming. Stay healthy and keep safe.
Wow. I love this video. I just got finished buying notebooks, a new planner (bullet journal), markers, highlighters... before I made the decision to purchase an iPad Pro. This video hit me hard, because it’s true.. you spend a TON of money on all these things and they’re all over the place. I’m excited to minimize my life. This video was awesome.
Wow, I'm such a fan of you now. Your videos are incredibly well organized and the quality is incredible, but also, the way you TALK is just inspiring. I can't wait to start using the iPad pro and these notetaking apps!
I automatically chose Goodnotes for the highlighter. I like to have colouful notes and I like to doodle too sometimes. I can't colour things neatly on Notability.
I just started being consistent on my UA-cam channel, and still felt overwhelmed by keeping track of my notes, ideas, and checklists. You blew my mind, and answered every question I had. Thank you for making this video. 🙌🏼

I often get very caught up in minor details. And comparing apps can take me days. Usually I have to find individual videos talking about each app and then do my own comparison. 8 minutes in, and I vastly appreciate this video. Its perfect. And thanks for not shouting your script at the camera.
Here I'm after watching your recent video (How you take notes on ipad in lectures), again watching this video after 6 months with GoodNotes. And thinking "what the hell should I do with Notability, bought on discount, when I'm content with GN5?". Your video made it clear, storage files in NB and writing in GN5. Btw. your videos are the best! I can watch them 10 times and still get different inspirations and ideas from it.
This made me wanna go back to nursing school. This could have been very useful and inspiring when studying all those topics we studied in nursing. After I graduated, I collected a huge box of print-outs, photocopies etc that I don't even know if I have read. I have Goodnotes, now I want to try Notability. I love your videos, you should be sponsored by these apps and Apple. God bless
You make a 52 year old tech geek want to go back to college. Actually, I never went to college. This is just one more reason to regret I that never did. I use Goodnotes for work. I love it too. Great Job!
You made me realize why I always feel motivated when using Goodnotes. But now I also want to try out Notability for the organization method as well. Thank you for your review!
your voice is so relaxing, I like to play your videos in the background while I work. I like how you decided to use good notes for more organic stuff and notability to file papers and pdfs.
This was the video that got me thinking about buying an iPad Pro for notetaking this semester. I got the 12.9 2020 model with GoodNotes 5. Gotta say I have never had a better time writing notes down than when I started using GoodNotes. I use it for class, for homework, and even to story my D&D Character sheets and papers! My favorite feature by far is the "Scan Document" feature. It's THE BEST I've seen out of ANY app so far.
LOL, I do the exact same thing! I've found that I've used both interchangeably and don't have the heart to delete one. So I use Notability for PDF's and Books, while GoodNotes 5 for Note taking and creative journaling.
Kae' Kirk which is better for end result being able to download a digital diary with UA-cam links to sell on . I’ve designed one on keynote to potentially upload to add details. Or maybe I need to start again in one of these programs ... any thought ?
One thing that he didn’t mention that I love about notability, is that you can open two documents at once in notability and get a side by side view. A feature I find quite useful if I have the textbook and my notes in notability.
After watching loads of videos, I have finally gotten myself an answer. I am going to purchase both apps. I'm a postgraduate medical student and I really need the structure of Notability but at the same time, the versatility of Good Notes. Thanks again!
Okay I just want to say I’m in love with your channel. The video quality, the audio, the way you put across your ideas, it’s all just amazing. And I have to say you have a really soothing voice. Well I think I will choose notability because I like how it’s structured. Goodnotes seems overwhelming to me. I just wish notability will fix their highlighters and maybe add the ‘insert space’ feature like the one in onenote.
This is by far the best comparison/contrast between these two apps that I've found, and yes, I also use both. I absolutely agree about the hand writing experience in Goodnotes--it actually makes me *love* practicing writing kanji in Japanese. OTOH I tend to use Notability in situations where I''ll be typing instead of writing by hand. Thanks for the great video!
Couldn’t have asked for a better analysis of these two apps! A fantastic video that has led to me to change how I will go about studying for the rest of my degree.
You should consider creating short video classes from beginners to advanced for people like myself who may feel overwhelmed by how to use these apps with all of their abundance of features. You tend to feel like you’re not utilizing them to their full potential. You have a way of explaining your thoughts very clearly. Kudos to your channel!
Update: Notability highlighter no longer covers text. Notability draws shapes and arrows far easier and dynamic. Notability eraser will always remove highlighter first which make sense. Notability now has a pen bar that lets you dock it on any side of the screen and gives you access to favorite pens/highlighters. I own both apps and I just feel the improvements from Notability make it the superior choice but in the end, it will depend on each individual.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the cinematography in this video? if you pause in the shots where he's speaking to the camera, it looks like a frame out of a proper TV show or movie. The colours, the soft focus, the image quality... i think it's great, considering this is a vlog for a (relatively) small youtube channel. I'm not even a film enthusiast, and i still wanted to point this out. Amazing job!
I bought an iPad and bought GoodNotes because of one of your videos about how you take notes. Fast forward, you're most about commercial than about really showing how it really is.
You’re such an inspirational speaker. Looks like it reflects in everything you are passionate about. I never get tired of your videos because you seem so sincere about your experiences with GOODNOTES and NOTABILITY.
I'm a student in Taiwan going to enter a medical school ,and I found your video so AWESOME!!!! I like your practical introduction and inspiring thoughts !!(I can practice English listening in the meanwhile >
Awesome video, I’m an engineering student and this really helped me decide on which app to download. Went for good notes based on the fact that diagrams are easier to draw. Also, my handwriting is like hieroglyphics and I myself cant understand myself sometimes. So it seems like good notes will help me on that front too.
Definitely agree on making notability as your app of choice for annotating and making more organized notes because of its audio recording feature (which syncs with your handwriting). Also, I believe notability also features in-app split screen where you could put two different notes side by side. However, Goodnotes' aesthetic and overall writing experience still blows me away. Great video btw!!
Okay so I get Ali Abdaal vibes from this initially but you’re also different in the way you present the info which is so satisfying to watch. Annnnd while Ali convinced me I needed a iPad pro with pencil for uni, you just convinced me to get goodnotes (because the notability writing experience also bothers me and I don’t like the way my writing looks on it haha) Also omg you go to UWS, I’m amazed to find an Aussie lifestyle/uni/tech youtuber!
Everyone else has already said it, but this was an incredible video. I'm working on my third degree and haven't felt this this confident about my note-taking skills/abilities on the upcoming semester. A thousand times thank you.
Oh man, I can’t describe how glad I’m to come across this video and actually spend time to finish watching it. I am planning to get an iPad Pro primarily for note taking in college but the pros and cons around these two apps have been driving me crazy. The idea you just shared probably has saved me a year or more to come up with the best possible method for note taking myself. Thank you!
hey, I'm heading off to college this fall and I'm in the same position! I've already gotten my iPad Pro but now I just need to figure out which app to use. May I ask what app you ended up using?
WOW!!! Today I just learnt that I can be both messy, and neat and organised as long as I can get the job done well! Today, you have inspired me. Thank you very much Mr Samuel Suresh for the education, God bless
I am second year student. recently bought iPad. now I regret not buying iPad in my first year and not watching this video. but it is never late. thank you for the amazing and useful content.
I'd love to see an update on these two apps from your point of view. Notability has had some big changes and while I still use it, I often wonder if there is a better option.
I never thought about an apple product and this guy convinced me to buy ipad pro , I'm a pharmacy student and I really struggled with the amount of notes I write each semester , I go through note books very quickly and they never even look as perfect as yours . I'm heading to an apple store asap
I don't know why I didn't write this 4 years ago. One thing to note about the price is that Notability is subscription based only, while GoodNotes has a subscription option as well as a one time payment option. This was my deciding factor between the two.
This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on UA-cam! I needed to know which app was best for me now I’m going to get both because it’s a fair price in comparison to saving a tree. I hope you get sponsored to make these videos! Continue to create.
Sorry everyone, I made a mistake at 8:38, GoodNotes 5 does, in fact, have vertical scrolling. It can be switched on in the settings.

I often get very caught up in minor details. And comparing apps can take me days. Usually I have to find individual videos talking about each app and then do my own comparison. 8 minutes in, and I vastly appreciate this video. Its perfect. And thanks for not shouting your script at the camera.
You’re so inspiring man, if you ever become a teacher/professor, your students would be so blessed
This is one of the most useful videos I’ve ever watched on this (and I have been browsing UA-cam all day) so thank you so much for that!
Love your analysis of these two tools and the passion that comes through in your videos. Kudos!
your voice is so relaxing, I like to play your videos in the background while I work.
Hands on the best video comparing these two videos. You deserve way more views.
I can’t agree more 😄
One thing that he didn’t mention that I love about notability, is that you can open two documents at once in notability and get a side by side view. A feature I find quite useful if I have the textbook and my notes in notability.
“...help people organize their messed up lives “ I’ve never felt more called out 😗 4:25
I came with the notion that one app was clearly going to better, but Samuel deftly defines why I need both. Thank you.
A fantastic video that has led to me to change how I will go about studying for the rest of my degree.
ur compassion to these apps is something i aspire. truly
You should consider creating short video classes from beginners to advanced for people like myself who may feel overwhelmed by how to use these apps with all of their abundance of features. You tend to feel like you’re not utilizing them to their full potential. You have a way of explaining your thoughts very clearly. Kudos to your channel!
You will go a long way man! Quality and editing of the videos are incredible. Keep on doing great content like these! cheers
The downside is it’s subscription based
Let it be known I was here before a million subscribers
Hope he gets to it ... He deserves it
Fan Booking 😂😂
DeathSoldier32 IA ahahahaha omg
DeathSoldier32 IA ikr, we’ll be the OG’s
We all are
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the cinematography in this video? if you pause in the shots where he's speaking to the camera, it looks like a frame out of a proper TV show or movie.
I like your passion and I really like the fact that you can “fall in love” with hand writing in Goodnotes.
This is by far the most useful comparison video I’ve seen for these apps. I’m going to use them the same way you do. Makes more sense
I literally watched every second of this video, can’t tell if I’m watching to hear him speak or get the information, but I guess i win either way.
Annnnd while Ali convinced me I needed a iPad pro with pencil for uni, you just convinced me to get goodnotes (because the notability writing experience also bothers me and I don’t like the way my writing looks on it haha)
Also omg you go to UWS, I’m amazed to find an Aussie lifestyle/uni/tech youtuber!
I’m just thinking of getting an iPad, I don’t own one but how relaxing it is to hear you speak 🥰
Everyone else has already said it, but this was an incredible video. I'm working on my third degree and haven't felt this this confident about my note-taking skills/abilities on the upcoming semester. A thousand times thank you.
“Because all I used to do was lose things” why do I relate to that so much
Oh man, I can’t describe how glad I’m to come across this video and actually spend time to finish watching it.
I wish he would be my lecturer , he teach so good and make me understand so well. I love to see his more video s👩💻
Man, I love your channel but...
I’m still confused on which one to get 😅
I'd love to see an update on these two apps from your point of view. Notability has had some big changes and while I still use it, I often wonder if there is a better option.
This really made me want to return back to note taking and studying in general. Thank you. Feeling positive.
I never thought about an apple product and this guy convinced me to buy ipad pro , I'm a pharmacy student and I really struggled with the amount of notes I write each semester , I go through note books very quickly and they never even look as perfect as yours . I'm heading to an apple store asap
Incredible. Have seen 30000 videos in UA-cam about note taking apps on iPad. This is the best
Your videos are amazing! Keep doing what you are doing! Thank you so much for all your hard work.
Thank you Javi, I’m glad it helped
I was having a hard time deciding if I should get Notability or Goodnotes. Then I watched this video, opened my iPad and got Goodnotes. Thanks bro.
UWS + Medical + ‘it’s about the vibe’ = new favourite iPad app videographer
