I mean this S85 engine is very superb and fulminant in sound and technology, but so complicated in his components. Rod bearings , oil consumption (driving style is a key factor on that car) , smg transmission , throttle sensors etc... So many horror stories about owning such a car :D Still a joy for every car enthusiast .
they're not that complicated, just all the parts are very precisely manufactured. Clearances are tight even when warmed up, and beyond tight when cold. Also the OEM oil weight is massively thick, which is great on a track day but again, cold start wear. These engines LOVE to be beaten on a track and wrung all the way to the limiter again and again. The problem with them lies in the day to day driving, starting them cold when all those fancy cams/lifters/etc in the head are dry... slowly receiving maple syrup oil while the rod bearings scream for relief. Then the salesmen/dumbass owners floor them cold because "hey its a fancy bmw i dont have to wait for this thing to warm up" and they tear the rod bearings apart within 40k miles... I honestly think if those engines had some kind of heat pad in the pan, that kept the oil at operating temp 24/7, and all other service was done perfectly... that thing would rip like new for 200,000 miles at least. -independent bmw tuner/parts developer.

You don’t throw rod bearing you spin rod bearings and that’s the only problem with the V10 replace the bearings yourself when/if you buy one you don’t even need to take the engine out
@@e60stevan The design is different and the interior's are also quite different but underneath, they're the same (or very similar) I think the E63 looks a little cooler IMO, you just see less of them when compared to an E60 5 Series...

Royalty _people it’s the same motor they have they same top speed. Nearly identical cars but the M6 is more aerodynamic and about 320lbs lighter which is why it’s faster.
