Grinning Mouths live is the single heaviest thing i ever heard. They played a small packed theater (during an alternative jazz festival of all things) in Zagreb, Croatia back in 2009. Their amps (many, many VHT/Fryette amps with a lot of speaker cabinets) couldn't even fit the stage. It was loud as an earthquake, yet just leveled enough to not sound painful or harsh. Every frequency was physically passing trough your body, like you had an additional sense for music besides hearing. I never felt anything like that ever again. My friend, who never heard of them and went just because i had an extra ticket was floored and speechless. I'm just glad i got to see them live before they disbanded.
I’m the Absence Of Truth is epic! Garden of Light Wrist of Kings Dulcinea 1000 Shards I have listened to these songs once a week minimum since that Album Dropped! Good stuff!
Honestly this album is just total perfection in each and every detail. It doesn't get any better than this. Not a single note that could be even slightly improved.
Listend to part 1-4 with you here tonight. It's been a while since I heard it from start to finish. It's such a ride. I bought this album almost 20 years ago just because of the album art. I don't know why, but I just liked it. And I LOVED the music
You think he'd like it. I mean he can handle heavy and can find the beauty for sure , I'm just not sure the sludge metal sound suits his channel much. Don't get me wrong, epic album.
@@juliangrenon-grekin5954 I don't think his channel should be constrained to certain genres of music. This channel is about the journey of music discovery, specifically Jim's journey, if he digs it why shouldn't he listen to whatever piques his interest?
Lyrics-Magistrates dream of plague Tongues loll in anticipation You are awake in their darker visions Drool slips from grinning mouths The plague is forced on us all Is it there? Are they there? But we got there Julian, just start all over again! Thank you, really. Thank you. I hope you enjoyed the videos.... I certainly enjoyed making them! Gawd bless ya fella. Thanks again.
was super impressed with this album, so I bought it, gonna dive into a few more Isis albums, as I am not that familiar with them, but I sure plan to be shortly
Yes, stupid Jim realised this long after finishing filming this video. It’s obvious…. The proliferation of CCTV as common as street lights….. we’re all in prison without realising it.
The album is about a panopticon society, whereby our cameras mimic the original concept of the prison; we're always observed, yet cannot observe those who see us, inducing a state of paranoia but also submissive action. Since the inmates (us) don't know when they can do or say anything that may be considered against the grain, they refrain instead, and are reduced in their ability, or willingness, to rebel. On the panopticon's effect, Bentham says '... morals reformed, health preserved, industry invigorated instruction diffused, public burthens lightened - economy seated, as it were, upon a rock - the gordian knot of the poor-laws are not cut, but untied, all by a simple idea in architecture!' You wouldn't get away with this macabre way of thinking these days, certainly not when human lives are being manipulated to prove a point, but back then it was revolutionary, and alarmingly telling of the kinds of change that almost took place as a result. If Bentham could see what became of his ideas, I think even he'd be horrified, if not immediately curious.
Great string of videos for this album. Really getting into post rock/metal/ambient stuff myself currently. Thanks for the videos, and to Julian for sending the album in.
Saw these guys live at an open air festival in Australia, incredibly tight unit the entire audience was zoning out myself included.

Btw I have to add - you said it's not happy music. I find this ironic watching your face light up throughout the entire album ;) Ok, maybe it's not happy music, but it's music that makes you happy. It was fun to go on this journey with you. I love this album so much, and the last track, especially the last 3:45 or so, is some of the finest music ever written, to my ears.
Great reaction, love this album, you shou check out Wavering Radiant next. It's the album with Threshold Of Transformation on it. Think you'd enjoy. Thanks anyway! 👍
Thanks Julian. Very good atmospheric rock epics. I will check these guys out. Ps, Jim, check out Anglegard. Yes, Genesis inspired with a measure of ELP. Dark brooding parts woven with beautiful pastoral ambience. Their instrumental song Jardrock will knock your socks off.
ISIS is such an amazing band. I was saddened when they decided to split, I understood their reasoning and certainly respected them as artists to walk away when they had done everything they wanted to do, but was sad none-the-less as their music was with me as I grew up. Fortunately Aaron Turner has since formed other bands, the latest of which being SUMAC which in my opinion carries the torch from ISIS but ventures down into a dark cavern or abyss. It's heavy and noisy but still has that emotion from ISIS none-the-less. I'd highly recommend checking out a song called Blackout from the album What One Becomes. I'd also like to buy/send you their album Love in Shadow, now I know I say this full well that you may not even get around to listening to it for a few years which I'm perfectly fine with. I think that album is best consumed once you have had your fill of ISIS anyway. If you have a way to reach out to you personally, do let me know and we can arrange for the album to be on it's way to you. Cheers from Australia!
Aeonix…. I’m not sure what to say other than that’s amazing of you! You can reach me multiple ways. Email (in the “about” section of the channel, FaceBook messenger (lots of people do that) or Twitter @beatsworking etc…. You can find me most places! I’ve also literally in the last day set up a PO Box which I’ll share with you. Thanks so much. Jim
Sludge and Doom Jim? It's starting to suite you! I think it's always interesting that insular dark music can offer you happiness and freedom in listening you don't always get from lighter sonics...😎👨🎤
Yeah I've told Jim about Marrow and Beauty in Falling Leaves especially....at some point before...Clearing The Path To Ascend has become one of my all time fave albums ever...🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤👍
I echo comments about Yob and God Speed You Black Emperor Jim....grab their last albums, Luciferean Towers and Our Raw Heart....both flippin great and both not my no.1s by either 🖤👍

I'd like Wills Dissolve to be longer, when the vocals came in that became one of my favorite songs. Still a 10/10 album though!

Made my day. Enjoy. They all sound awesome if you listen to an album full through.
Thank you Julian for gifting this to Jim, and thanks Jim for sharing it!
It's been a great listen, for certain.
It's a take on our society. The cover is an aerial view of a city.

Definitely check out SUMAC, the singer's current band. It's heavier and harsher than ISIS but equally fantastic.
I would also recommend listening to "Godspeed you, black emperor" with eg "sleep"

I like a lot of different stuff, as my channel is testament to!
What better way to end the album than with this monster of a track - Grinning Mouths.
Love this band, such a shame they decided to finish but better to do that, than carry on just repeating the same things over and over again.
I'd love to have two or three more Panopticons.
Somebody get this man some YOB
