Beautiful palace. I couldn't help but wonder if some of the scenes from Magnificent Century were filmed on location there. Still amazing what they don't teach in schools, or never used to.

I was blessed to visit Istanbul as a child and remember bits and pieces of the palace. Its in credible, as are the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. It really is a beautiful city. Yes, it is sad about schools. So much they don't teach.

There is no way the Indian Mughal emperor Shahjahan's Peacock throne taken by Nadir Shah is currently in the Topkapi Palace. I refuse to believe it.

@@aliaguerin1266 some of the shots in the gardens were filmed in the actual Top kapi palace, the rest was a studio that almost looks like the real palace inside but not identical,as other sultans after Sulaiman kept building on to the palace and changed it over time.. the set is now a museum were you can go and visit

It wasnt sad, it was quite lucky. Most were married to rich aristocrats or became professionals or tradesmen supporting the palace community. Many today would be lucky to live there as a concubine. Slavery very was more or less the poor mans way to avoid starvation. You have a romanticized politicized view of slavery and women's positions .
