Never drove a gated manual. Whats the deal? It kinda looks way slower than a regular H pattern as for example in a manual 911 GT3

@@supermutant01 it sucks. It doesn’t feel natural. Instead of it being a 1-2, it feels like a 1-1-2 , I had a few manuals but my 987 Porsche Boxster had a shifter similar to this I hated it.

It’s insane how quick the revs drop when using the clutch. When I drive sporty in my S3 Manual especially shifting from 1 to 2 quickly the revs nearly don’t drop at all and I have to hold the clutch for a bit at the bite point,that makes the shifting especially in lower gears way slower than what I would be capable of. From 3 onwards it’s alright because the rev difference is smaller, the revs fall quicker an you can just use more throttle when engaging. But if the revs would drop as fast as in the Manual R8 I would shift way faster from 1-3 Gear. Maybe I should ask Audi to put the Manual R8 Gearbox in my car😅😂😂
I noticed this as well.
But it’s not about the gearbox why the rpm’s drop that fast when the clutch is being pressed. It’s about the engine-rpm’s which drop quickly. This might be due to the V10 having much more inner friction than an R4 or due to older valve lift system or the really high rpm’s he starts to shift…

I have a 2011 R8 V10 Manual and I love it dearly and would consider myself a true manual enthusiast.. After an accident I was given a 2020 R8 V10 Performance and can't but help miss it dearly.. We all love to praise the manuals and rightly so, but that excellent DSG gearbox I feel is so underrated and a great match for that engine.. I heel toe and rev match when I can but at the same time a human will never do it as quickly or smoothly and I remember driving the newer R8 myself using paddles the majority of the time and how addicting the down shifts were when done quickly..
Having said this if I was to sell the manual and get a S Tronic I know I'd deeply regret it in future 🤣
Sorry for the accident. The 2020 r8 is good in terms of features and speed but nothing can provide an absolute driving experience like the r8. Manual v10 is a dream that will never come true anymore

Really great to see the manual gearbox in action. I also have a manual daily driver for a long time and think if stepping up to automatic would be great? It would certainly make the city driving more relaxing but then again I know I would miss the gear shifts and the feeling of direct drive. The urge of torque after every gear is great feeling that an automatic gearbox just kind of flattens out (unless you have a sports car)

@@ah9337 Shouldn't matter if you know how to rev match. It barely takes a min to learn the rev differences between gears if you are a skilled MT guy.
@@kyrix1st I like a good MT but I've never driven one with such a light flywheel. It would be jerky in the beginning for most people in the real world (obviously not in a UA-cam comment section though)

BMW m550xd V6 chip tuned to bhp 530 has better 0-100 in 3.8s and consumes much less than this Audi R8 V10
I like my Audi R8. Over time the V8 will be the better and more likeable car. After having both I prefer the V8 a lot.

@@lonelydriver4936 in person the V8 has a high pitched sound at higher RPM which in some cases can confused for a V10, very unique and still has that low rumble at lower RPM, coming out the carpark in the V8 more people look than the V10 it has that real race car tone and low rumble.
The pull is more enjoyable when accelerating as it’s not over as quickly the V10 it is more manageable on normal roads as I live in the UK. In truth the 0-60 times on half these cars if you’re driving them properly isn’t a big deal.
I’d also say the sex appeal and originality. Being the first car to come out as the MK1 over time when manual and naturally aspirated/gas engines get weeded out it won’t be about speed it’ll be about collectability and saying you have an original manual V8 R8 will mean more than having the natural V10 as it’s the start of something great but also the end of an era it’s an icon that everyone who likes cars knows about. The V8 is reliable despite what some people will say about the Mag ride and so on and of course the AC replacement job.
When I was looking for these cars I was wondering V8-10 08 or facelift so on so fourth and as I say this original is a joy to drive as more get taken off the streets daily abused by financiers who can’t actually afford the cars and vroom vroom rag it out type people good quality cars will be worth a lot more.
There’s a point in life where old is better than new and I’m not alone in saying life is getting that way for a great many things.
