Been with JBL's since the early 70's their tweeters are of titanium and at one time were 2nd only to Infinity's who had their Emit's on auto speakers...Now that they've joined with Harmon, I suspect we will see and hear them hopefully soon...Props to your superb review.
Maybe it's the microphone, but the Alpine has the correct, more accurate sound, where as the JBL has a scooped sound. If I'm running subs, I'm picking the Alpines warmer, more controlled sound. The highs are crystal clear, yet not out of control. It does lack that bottom end, but that's because JBL gave a smile eq to there speaker by using a less efficient midrange.

Installed my these JBL's in the front doors of my 2017 Maxima. The difference is clear as day. In sane is all I can say. Waiting on my 2nd set to replace the two in the back deck.

The JBL's sound more natural and more defined. With the Alpines everything sounds muffled and mashed together like they're coming through a tin can. I've got two pairs of them in the mail on their way right now. I feel like I made the right choice after watching this. The imaging seems way better on the GTO's.

Only my factory “Beats By Dre System” that consists of 10speakers & 1 8” trunk sub. The JBLs were all plug & play using the Metra adapters. I’ve been thinking on hooking up my old 2 pioneer 12s though because I can use the extra bump. Alone though I have zero complaints, I’m sure they’ll sound miles better if I get a aftermarket 4channel.

I was thinking of picking up a pair of JL's but the last test I heard the JBL's shockingly were better but it's always a matter of opinion and what your running them with.
my whole home theater and car audio is JBLs.. even all my laptop speakers and toolbox speakers! i love the sound they designed!

I have my Audio Technica head phones on, and they seem to be very evenly matched. The Alpine are brighter at higher levels, and sound very accurate.
The JBL GTO has slightly better textures, and imaging. Either way you can't go wrong.

I wanted ask u to if you ever heard of the kricket 6 by 9 speakers I know these are not made now but this guy I knew had 2 6 by 9 kricket speakers I think he had them hooked up to like a 80 what amplifier but these where the best sounding speakers in 6 by 9 I ever heard and still today I have not heard any like them for a company to make speakers this good and now they are gone this is crazy to close out on them I just wanted to ask u if u heard of these thank you
I remember those kriket speakers in 1980s. I agree! They were best sounding speakers with that lime green speaker color. I bought a NOS pair a few years ago on eBay and when I opened up the box because they were so old the speaker cone deteriorated...lol
I have a set of JBL stage 2 6x9 and a pair of Cs769 installed with a JBL amp in my Toyota camry and I have a 10 inch JBl sub in my boot I only have it on 20% volume and it's loud enough 😂😂😂 sounds soo good and clear it's like you can play any genre music and sounds good love JBL.
Does yours hiss when the song starts quiet? I turned down the gain and it helps but the music doesn't sound as good. I'm installing the 6.5 JBL club 625sq for my doors today and hope the hiss doesn't get louder. I have the 6x9 in the rear deck.

why not use a spectrum analyzer with signal generator and show the frequency response. although you just have to find a precision mic for testing.

The Alpines sound like the speakers are playing to you, or for you. The JBL sound is just very crystal clear. I like that about Alpine, but they aren't as clear.

Great comparison review. Gave a really honest look at each speakers and the speakers spoke for themselves. JBL sounded quality ! The alpine's had a Tinny sound.

What about the JBL and the Pioneer TS-M650PRO w/ a tweeter? You speak highly of both.
I had the 8” pioneer TS-M800. No comparison to a midrange woofer to a 6x9. Especially when you add in a tweeter. The Pioneer 6.5” gets crazy loud when you power them correctly, has solid mid bass, with crispy clarity as well.
Pioneer ts m800 and matching super tweeters sound amazing. Crazy loud and clear. Used these in my boat. They are awesome. They’re not cheap anymore. Best speakers I’ve used. But still using jbl gto series in my truck. Sounds amazing as well. Just don’t produce the high volumes.
I've got those GTO 939 I haven't installed yet in an Old Second Generation Trans Am. With these being 3 ohm and so efficient I have concerns about them being able to handle the clean and true older Alpine amp I Got. Its a true 70w rms per Channel continous @ .01% 20-20K. I hope these can handle power well because it's a lot more powerful than a head unit. And with 2nd generation Camaros and 1973 Trans Ams have great Acoustics for 6x9s in the trunk. I'm just hoping they have pretty solid bass with power handling because of the front I've got small JBL tweeters haven't decided if I'm going to run off the amp fronts or head unit.

Ali pines have fuller mids to me. I’d rather have alpine with a sub setup and a stereo with a good EQ

The thing is these are alpine type s you still have type r and type x to go vs jbl that's their highest output 6x9 it would be totally different with the type x
The Alpine is the better speaker because it sounds less artificial than the JBL. Real instruments do not sound like the JBL's tweeter. The Alpine's sound is more natural and I'll bet that if you connect these two speakers to testing equipment, the Alpine will come on top with a flatter response and less deviation (how far the sound deviates from a neutral or "flat" response) than the JBL. The JBL is like a flat screen TV that adds color to the image giving the viewer the perception that it looks better, but in reality the better TV is the one reproducing an image as close as possible to the original. Alpine in my opinion wins hands down.
I worked studios for years. While I agree with you on things being "true" to sound, most consumers don't care and are not sophisticated enough to appreciate that. You learn to adapt to the market, and thats just the way it is. In this case I would choose the jbl because they just "sound better" overall. Most tracks on spotify are garbage mixing/mastering quality, and they then lose further clarity via bluetooth streaming. This is further reason why having a speaker "adding color' is sort of a good thing. If you are listening to a concert then yes go with the natural sound, but most just want things to sound great.
A question? When you press the button inwards on the JBL, does the treble activate or cancel? Please, I would love to know and best regards. Very good channel and everything very well explained. That is my only doubt about how the JBL button works.
Yeah, it's - 3db. This means that clarity is louder when pressed

Good golly, the mighty has fallen! Alpine was the gold standard in car audio when, I was growing up. Alpine for me, sounded too distorted, soft and murky. Meanwhile, JBL speakers sounded deeper, richer and clearer. It's a new day in the car audio world.

What is the sound difference between the 6.5 vs 6x9 in the JBL GTO line?
6x9 has a bigger space to move more air. So it can produce a little more bass
Jbl have deeper bass best if no subwoofer installed , alpine have more clear mid tone this work best with a subwoofer and hpf enabled or if you only love listening to jazz and classic music
Alpine type R's will not disappoint. But if money wasn't an issue. Them alpine type x is out of this world.

I have the Cerwin Vega 6x9's, and I can say the sound quality is very mediocre. Bass isn't very deep, but midbass is punchy. With some tuning mids and highs are pretty clear.

I don’t know much about speakers, but if the JBL is behind the door panel how do you push the button on the tweeter? What does pushing that button actually do?
You proved it in your question. Lol on a real note, the tweeter and woofer are hooked up together. When you power the speaker, it plays from both the woofer and the tweeter that's built in. It's pretty cool actually! They use a crossover capacitor built in so no low frequency gets sent out to the tweeter.
The switch he holds in his hand is just a switchable splitter. Basically it sends power from one speaker to the other just to hear a comparison. Hope I helped!

Bro pioneer ts 6995 is competitive to rockford or kicker JBL way better and higher speaker I think rockfors r2 r will sound better then pioneers
@@LIFEINSPEED the Rockford primes are junk. No bass and the highs just dont sound good at high volume. I wish i would have went with pioneers instead.

I have had a set of these in my car for 2 to 3 years they have held up and continue to sound amazing best speakers I have ever purchased in 30 years of audio snobbing. I have them powered with a kenwood kac 5207 advertising 70w rms x 2 at 4ohms or 85w rms x 2 at 2ohms. My personal opinion $125 you cannot beat them.

I need the deep spacers to mount them to my front doors on a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500, the magnets are so big that they won't mount flush to the door. Anybody else have this problem? I need the part number or website on where and how to buy them.
