- ANTIQUE MALL, VINTAGE FINDS! | SHOP WITH ME IN GEORGIA
Gateway Antique Mall is a new stop on my I-75 route, and once I discover how big this place is, there’s no way I’m getting out fast! So here I go, venturing into more backrooms, booths and catacombs in search of reseller finds and fun things to show you along the way.
Munitions and military from frontier wars and the Civil War are a specialty in this mall, just minutes from where one of the largest and deadliest battles (Chickamagua) was held in 1863. Nearby are a shelf full of 1940s baby bottles and collections of children's toys evidence some of the dichotomies reflected in the offerings of this vintage pavilion.
Brasilia is more than a modernist capital city, it’s also a striking line of furniture inspired by that city’s architecture in the 1960s! A ‘Mad Men modern’ china cabinet from that line reveals prowling panther figures, across from a large and colorful collection of American mid-century dinnerware that could make all this staying at home we’re doing now seem much more fun.
Fun for me is finding things I can flip for a profit, and I show some different things than I’ve bought in the past…a rusty mailbox (really!), Alaskan silk pillowcase, deer mounts, a hillbilly wheelchair and a really classy swimming pool all somehow fit into my van for the drive south.
Here are some more of the items we see along the way in this tour:
Vintage fashion, bass mount, enameled fish shop sign, multimeter, silk pillow shams, comic 1910s print, gas burner camp stove, ceramic water cooler, sports magazine, Gulf gas pumps, formica dinette set, hydroplane model, wicker lamp, McCoy pottery, Occupied Japan bird, Catholic religious art, Cookie the Cucumber and Katie the Carrot, German army insignia, Marx toy helmet, bone dominoes set, Harper’s Ferry rifle, Montgomery Ward tin car carrier in box, Disney mirror, etc.

Good job talking about the old wheelchair! disabled people understand what it’s like to have to make things work for us. It’s hard to imagine what things must’ve been like for the disabled many years ago. You did a fantastic job!
Oh thank you! The world is generally easier to negotiate now but the handicapped have had it tough and I'm glad to give people a sense of that reality so they have more empathy
I love watching you because you are an actual historian. I love how you told the story of Harper's Ferry. The study of history is a diminishing art and you are keeping it alive through objects that make history come alive. Thank you!
I really appreciate that! History seems irrelevant to a lot of people, but it comes alive when you illustrate it with what remains
I learn at least one new piece of information each time I watch one of your videos. Usually way more, though. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
I'm glad! I really want to share what I know and learn more myself
Love your videos George!!!
Thank you! I'm glad you had fun watching another, I have more to come!
I loved the preppy look!! So dressy and sharp looking!
Well even though I said not so kind things about the fate of the preppies, I have to admit that they had sharp style!
Wow! I just started watching your videos and your knowledge is amazing! Thanks for the awesome info!
Thank you for saying so, and I hope to keep teaching and learning as we go along!
That Donald Duck mirror is amazing
That was a lot of people's favorite thing!
Loved the antique mall videos, George. Always learn so much.😊
Thank you much! I keep looking for different things to show to that end
❤️ mailbox- great find!
I really like that thing! I never thought of buying a mailbox before
Love the hillbilly wheelchair! Hope you picked it up :)
I couldn't fit it in the car! I hope it's there when I drive north again
You are the best at telling us the history of the pieces you see!
I am just pleased that it resonates with you. Thank you!
George, on your web site and your videos could you post your upcoming antique shows? A lot of us would appreciate this. As always, another great video. You have never done a bad one!
Oh thank you! My upcoming shows are Sparks, Kansas this weekend and Springfield, Ohio sept 18-20
Thanks again George!! So many great finds!
It was a fun place to discover! Thanks for watching
I recently found your wonderfully, informative channel. Thank you for sharing your rather impressive knowledge. I’ve learned so very much! Smiles to you!!
Welcome aboard! I'm so glad it's helpful to you, I love the chance to talk about all these cool things and take you along on my adventures
George, it's amazing how wide your area of expertise is. Your videos are always super-informative and super-fun!
Thank you for saying so! I hope you get to see them all
The Antique Nomad I try to keep up with you, but that’s a challenge - impossible to get any work done while watching. Your videos need undivided attention - so densely packed with information!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, much appreciated!
As always, great video!
Thank you, fellow nomad!
Great video George! Thanks for sharing! ❤
Love the Donald Duck mirror!
Everyone did! I'm glad I showed it
George, thank you so much for sharing your incredible knowledge with us!
I'm so glad to get the chance to share with you!
Yes, I played with the original Mr Potato head. It was very annoying when the poor old tater got too holey and all the body parts kept falling out. Also remember the "Cootie" game. It's stayed the same through the decades, I think. I was big into marbles and jacks, as well. I wish I still had my marbles! (In more ways than one. Ha!) I really enjoy your videos, George. They're always such a pleasure. Thanks!
Hi Phyllis! I'm from shortly after Mr Potato Head got a plastic body but I can only imagine that they got undesirable after awhile... Cooky the Cucumber especially!
I remember Mr Potato Head . I don’t like the plastic ones. With a real potato I could get some unusual faces.
Love the black panthers I have about 20 of them ,like the lamp and planter ones .
I have the lamp and love it
That Brazil ?? piece of furniture is so gorgeous George. You sure do hit some hot spots for treasures.
Yes! Brasilia was the name of the line, it was American made but ultra-modern. Brasilia was being built with skyscrapers that looked like that piece around the early 1960s when the line came out
I love that fish enameled sign. I am born and raised in Binghamton, NY and actually live on Chenango St. How cool!!!
So cool! I have a friend near there but she's a transplant and didn't remember that place. I imagine it's been gone for years
@@TheAntiqueNomad yes, that fish shop has been gone for quite awhile. I just also wanted to thank you for all the videos you do. I have been an antique/collector/vintage junkie for quite awhile. You are so knowledgeable and I have learned so much....so thank you!
Hiya George, Oo all the lovely dishes I’ll never need but want😆! I love the panthers as well, have a few lamps, planters & a “house panther” (black cat😉). Very interesting, especially that wheelchair, we forget our modern conveniences weren’t always available. I’ve sold many fun Hawaiian made dresses, kept a few from the 50s for myself as the styles were very unusual. Even have my grandfathers Hawaiian shirt I still wear! As always very informative & interesting! Have a lovely weekend & easy journey to FL! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️
I love the panthers (and black cats too)! Hawaiian shirts are also my bag. I think we share a lot of our tastes lol
Catching up again.... I was already in Love with the Broyhill Brazillian Hutch then you opened it, how appropriate that they put panthers in there 💚💚💚 also thanks for thinking of me and the shout out 💙 Well George and Xeno Morph, another great video 🏆
Right on! I can't see a panther without thinking of you now.
The Antique Nomad 🔥 Loved the sound effects too 🤣🤣🤣
Great mall!
I'm glad to have a new place to show
The Donald Duck mirror is fantastic. Never seen something like this, what a find. Great video. 🌻🌼🌿
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I think I've seen one other of those mirrors over the years
That's an antique mall I could spend a day looking. The thing that really stood out to me was the handmade wheelchair. The history of it is compelling. To know some provenance of it would be amasing! The cucumber and carrot Mr. Potato Head items interested me, too. I actually wouldn't mind having those. Another great tour!!! Thanks!!!
I was so surprised by all three of those items! I especially liked the wheelchair, although I'm sure I would feel for the poor original occupant.
@@TheAntiqueNomad Yes, I would feel for the original occupant, too, but I'm sure they were very thankful for the chair.
Were you surprised at me liking those three times, or that they were in the mall? Sometimes I think I throw you a bit off-balance, with some of the items that catch my eye😂
I enjoyed that!
Thanks I enjoyed brnging it to you
I love the mailbox and your humor in the pool ashtray. You make this pandemic so much more bearable. Did I hear you state in a recent video you were going to the Springfield, Ohio show in late September?
I live in Columbus and would be thrilled to see George in Springfield! I’ll have to pay very close attention should he mention it again.
I am! I hope to see you there. Thank you for watching and I'm glad I can give you something to look forward to in these odd times
I will be there! I hope to see you too, Kimberly
@@TheAntiqueNomad I hope you shoot some video while there. I'd like to go but, can't get around very good anymore. I sold at that show several years in the 80's & 90's.
P.S. I watch all of your videos and think they are the best on UA-cam! (of the ones I've seen)
Thank you George. Entertaining vid 😊
Very welcome, I always enjoy knowing you got to see it!
Great information as always! Where in Florida are you heading to. Hope we have a chance to meet.
I'm conducting an estate sale in St Pete this weekend
The Antique Nomad I’ll email you.
The Antique Nomad I sent you a Facebook message since I could find an email for you. Thanks again.
Sorry I missed the live stream. The taxidermy and military stuff was really cool to see. Thanks, George!
Thank you! I thought it was a fresh and important collecting area to show
I remember my dad refusing to pay the outrageous price of 40 cents for gas on vacation. Went elseware to get it for 30 some cents. Back in the day! Lol
I remember my parents being so outraged that gas had skyrocketed to an insane $1.00 a gallon. They were literally outraged.
Yes my dad installed extra gas tanks in his truck so he didn't have to pay above 35 cents during the gas crisis
The Antique Nomad young kids today will hopefully have similar memories.
I was thinking there is a term for those kitschy pillowcases. Can't think of it. I like the one you picked up. The Boutineer (spelling?) dinnerware pattern....I get it confused with another similar one. Any idea what that is?
There's a lot of similar floral patterns from that era but Boutonniere always had the blue carnation
One of these days I'll be able to wafch your live vids without any interruptions, lol
Ha! Best of luck. It's always nice seeing you in the chat though
I was just at the Homer Laughlin website and some pop up came up saying they had been bought buy another company in 2020.
Interesting! I hope they continue to make in the USA, I understand they've recently reopened the plant and have a large order backlog
@@TheAntiqueNomad That was mentioned in the pop up. That they were working together to make sure all orders are processed and no changes to the company were planned. They wanted them to deliver the same high quality they always had. The usual corporate speal but it can be true.
DO YOU STILL HAVE THE GOTHIC MIRROR FOR SALE?
Do you mean the metal swing mirror? I'm not sure, it may have sold but I'll check for you. Please e-mail me at theantiquenomad@gmail.com and remind me
👍🇨🇦🤗
