    Those new Korg units are both stunningly mesmerizing and scary to me at the same time, haha. SOOO many options and features. All for very little money. That's crazy imho, especially when you look at the very fair pricetag. And to be honest, you don't really need more than one or two of these and can start exploring endless sonic territory, honing your sound design skills. A great time to be alive... Solid and accessible gear for everyone.

    • @xfloodcasual8124

      Thte UX of these new devices is the best its ever been - but the sound quality is the worst its ever been. Miniaturization and cost-cutting for the Beats/Airpods generation has really brought it down. I recently restored a Yamaha TG77 and the sound quality is lightyears from this toy.

    • @wackerburg
      @wackerburg 2 роки тому +3

      @@xfloodcasual8124 Interesting! We may have lost the sense for great sound due to the lack of machines like the TG77. I mean, when I testdrove the Minilogue XD, I did not compare it to something else and quite frankly liked it, hehe. But I DO own classic drum machines (909, 808) and can clearly sense the difference there when compared to let's say an RD-8 or a TR-09.

      Full Ack. I started my synthesizer addiction about 30 years ago, and when I think about how expensive it was back then.... I spent incredible amounts of money together with a friend. For a tiny fraction of that you can get the Modwave today, and that alone opens up a universe of possibilities.

    • @HJPhilippi
      @HJPhilippi Рік тому +7

      @@xfloodcasual8124 The point is: how do you define "sound quality"? Some synthesizers from the 80s have terrible sound quality (from a sound engineer's point of view, with aliasing, frequency response and all that) - yet they have tremendous character. Like the DX7 or the D-50. "Sound quality" is a completely useless criterium for synthesizers.

      I am loving my new sequencer and wish it was a bit larger...it controls a 2600 clone, 500 clone, two moogs, and a matrixbrute and sends data to a force via USB, probably going to buy another. Solid build and speaks fluent MIDI, USB midi, CV and more. I use several sequencers sometimes and this is a keeper. I hope the new model gives us more lights and soft led switchs...the CV units share data as well so the MIDI and CV together is a wet dream.

      I too am not very impressed with how this thing sounds as compared to my WS. The thing I am really jealous of: the pitch lane on Modwave can quantize to a musical scale. I wish they added that to WS because once you start filling in other values than obvious intervals like +7,+12 on the pitch lane, I find it becomes very hard to play freely on the keys and still have good sounding results.

      I pay a Q alongside the Korg units wavestate and modwave, all three say a lot , even with a half dozen analogs ..IF you do a few house keeping tasks. The problem is fitting in the beats, vocals, and making something you may be proud of in 20 years...check out Tangerine Dream's numbers compared to many others. It is self expression that counts. It took me years to get my gear and reviews warned me away from the bad stuff. I love a good review!

    Hoping for an SE version soon. It's not that I object to the key count it's just that I need to retire my non-velocity sensitive DX27 as my main full-size keyboarded synth so a 61-key Modwave would meet that need.

      I used analog synths, digital and VST in a few decades. VST are amazing now and hold an interest for many. But, I have to say I love a hefty knob or two instead of of a mouse. Just my way of doing things now. I use a computer as a work sheet or sample/patch editor, maybe online. Computers can do the job , but they are not intuitive for some.

    I have to agree that Korg has been on fire. From Gadget 2 to Minilogue XD to this Modwave, Korg is battling 1000! I must add that you, my friend are battling a very close 900.98!
    Every one of my last 5 or 6 synth buys have been a decision made after one of your video reviews. Did I say that’s been since last December? Let’s see: Behringer Pro One, Behringer Model D, Korg Minilogue XD, Behringer TD-3, Arturia Keystep Pro, Arturia Microfreak, Novation Circuit Tracks, Novation Circuit Rhythm, Korg NTS-1, Korg Modwave, and UNO Synth Pro. Not to mention how many tricks I’ve stashed in my “trick-bag” thanks to your “ever expanding book”. I have an attraction to Korg since my first synth in 1984 was a Korg Poly 800.
    Just saying thanks for the education and putting the pro level presentation on your work. Very well done. Keep up the great work, I appreciate you.

    In sample mode, it would be nice to be able to use the position (e.g. sample start), blend (e.g. loop start), morph (e.g. loop end) and morph type (e.g. loop type) knobs for *something*. There may already be plans for other functions, I am just trying to get more out of the ModWave, because I LOVE IT!

      @danphillips2137 3 роки тому +8

      Note that it will only retrigger if no voices are sounding. If anything is sounding, the LFO continues - regardless of whether or not a key is actually being held down. Let me know the use case for which this is insufficient, and I can add a feature request!
