I work in the coatings industry and unless the color in your video isn't showing up well those metal items are a completely different color than the Magpul items. The metal items are on the red side and the Magpul items are on the green side. You can really see the difference from the free float hand guard to the fore grip.
How many times can a person say: "magpul fde" in a video? Watch to find out. I like how you gave -50% info on the coatings performance though. Totally what I wanted to waste time on.
Great video ,man, and you're dead on. If you can swing the price on Cerakote, it's really tough to beat. It's durability is unmatched, even by the vaunted DuraCoat. (although DuraCoat does have a little more elasticity to it which makes it more shock resistant). But the thickness on Cerakote is unbelievably thin in relation to it's toughness. And Aero receivers are the BOMB. Great video CountryBoyPrepper!!
Caveat about alumihyde II. It is very good , however , if/when you have to do a really good deep cleaning due to chamber build up , if you use a cleanser such as bore buster to break the carbon build up , these more aggressive cleansers remove alumihyde II as if they were specifically designed to do so , it will strip it with such efficiency like I've seen with any other product
I did my upper, lower and 15 inch troy rail in alumahyde Magpul FDE and it's perfect and has lasted a long time with minimal wear. Besides internally which doesn't matter to me. But I'll be sending my rifle out to get cerakoted burnt bronze for $130.
A few weeks ago I bought a can of Brownells Alumahyde II in Magpul FDE and it didn't match at all. It was not the same shade at all and had a greenish tint to it. Not happy with it at all. Won't be buying their stuff again.
It's the base color that dictates th final finish color/tone/shade. A hiding primer is best used for that sort of issue. Or like 12 coats of regular paint...
I liked your other video and went with the new Magpul FDE color. It came out great, I did 2 Pmags that were black, 2 old collapsable stocks I had replaced with FDE stocks and 2 grips that were sitting in a drawer. And the can is still not empty. I like hanging the items from my rear view mirror with dental floss and aiming my car towards the sun to cure. I'm sure it's about 160 degrees here in Az. Thanks for the video. You're selling a lot of paint for these guys and save me a lot of money. You're dislikes are .001 percent of your views so just blow it off to personality disorders :-)
For me it’s worth a little more money to have a professional cerakote whatever I need painted. These are guns folks. A can of cheap gun paint is $23. Now add in your time for prep and painting. cerakote (at least whom I use) is $75. They prep it, they paint it and they warranty it. That’s worth $50 to me. Funny people will spend hundreds on optics and accessories, etc then cheap out on a good coating.
Good to know there are some options with the paint. That's going to be a sweet build - dream AR, for sure. You did have your fun shooting between the clouds. lol

@@gummybear41283 Thats a bit harder to answer, different shops are going to always have sales at different times. Best bet is to keep an eye on reddit gundeals, or the website gun.deals itself.
Bottom line from my first hand experience Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II COYOTE IS A BETTER MATCH to Magpul FDE parts period!! Brownell's Magpul FDE color is NOT, I repeat NOT a close match to actual Magpul products, it is much lighter in color and has a semi-glossy finish. The Brownells COYOTE is not a perfect match but it is MUCH MUCH closer to true Magpul FDE. It is a bit greener and has a much more flat finish. I have had very good success with Brownell's paints, very easy and very durable. I recommend that you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! I always heat cure as speced in the Brownell's instructions and it is great.
You're Right You can reassemble it or whatever anytime you want but if you follow the product directions then you are going to wait a week at least for a proper cure. I tried cutting corners as well but the finish didn’t last one day in the field. It’s a budget finish and you get what pay for.
@@boofingdragon for any normal shooting its fine after a few days. Field use, id wait the full 14 days or use the bake overnight at 175° method to speed up the cure if you need it to be done that urgently.

FYI I would use Brownells Aluma-Hyde II before either one of those choices. Duracoat and Cerakote are that bad and I wouldn't use them. Remember the USMC Colt M45A1CQBP 1911 .45 ACPs that got all sent back because of how cheap and lousy Cerakote was. What about the FBI HRT/SWAT FNH SPR A3G sniper rifles that wouldn't function because that 2-part gooey mess got into the actions and built up stacking tolerances. You fellers do what you want. You won't catch me using them.

Try using the phrase "in my opinion" more often rather than putting forward your thoughts as fact and give the people newer to the concept the opportunity to make an informed choice. .....color matching is the lowest concern when choosing a firearms finish but that is what you spent 10 minutes talking about. worthless video if you are trying to decide what finish to use.

Both Cerakote and Duracoat are garbage. They are a 2-part gooey mix that adds too much stacking tolerances. The finish is soft and rubbery and is not all that durable as the hype claims. If you want to do it right use KG Gun Kote 2300/2400. It was developed and is used by the United States Navy SEALs. If you want to do it like a regular U.S. Army or U.S. Marine would do use Aervoe Military grade spray paint. Ceracoat and Duracoat are both mallninja tactitard garbage.
