Dad managed a Dewhursts butchers shop in Wilmslow. I worked at a place that imported animals from abroad, a naturalist named Robert Jackson from Hale Barns.
Worked here for 15 years in the 80's & 90's at Laughtons photographic shop, (now Costa). The long standing residents were generally really nice, civilised and intelligent. The newcomers were usually a pain in the ass....the worst snobs were actually the working class made good. Fur coats and no knickers or class...
we were moving from mobberley, and looking in wilmslow estate agents for a propety around the area, and was asked are you looking in wilmslow( after living in the area most of my life, gave her an icy glare . to the effect this would be the last place on earth we would live. ( oh btw i have lived in alderley edge, and went to school there , and worked around cheshire, hale ,alderley edge ,wilmslow, mottram ,bowdon, altrincham, and the problem i have is that the residents of wilmslow believe they live in the best area in cheshire....... however the majority of them never travel in this country ...... and that is my point how can you deal with people like that, my recommendation is give them a wide berth.do not approach them or engage them in conversation ,they have nothing interesting to impute ,other than their bank balance ,and recent holiday destinations would anyone want to live there NOT ME . i have lived in far better locations than this ,and would not lower myself to reside there, .i have no problem with the money , its the lack of imagination and aspiration the residents show ,which manifests its self in wilmslows lack of communion, and unity,if all you want to do is stare at shop windows ,and look at high end sports cars, then this is the place for you.

The money and lack of imagination always go together in my experience.
