  • George Carl, legendary vaudeville comedian, gets all tangled up on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
The Smothers Brothers, Tom and Dick, are one of the most iconic comedy duos in the history of television. Tom and Dick began performing as a duo in the late 1950s, playing in coffeehouses and clubs in San Francisco. Their act consisted of music, comedy, and witty banter, which quickly gained them a following.
The Smothers Brothers became a household name in the late 1960s with their variety show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The show was groundbreaking in its approach to comedy, pushing the boundaries with political satire and social commentary. The show also featured up-and-coming musical acts, including The Doors and The Who, and introduced the world to comedians like Steve Martin and George Carlin.
The Smothers Brothers' irreverent style has made them a beloved and enduring force in American comedy.

No way, only seven comments so far. This is by far one of the most original (if slightly antiquatesd) acts that I've ever seen. The ability to pull off some of the tricks was well worth the "entrance money" in itself. But the entitiretyof the whole act deserves more praise than I can give it, other than to say "Bravo".

About the drumming, I once had the incredible fun of filling in for a few performances for a small circus in N Europe. The clowns just wanted me to watch them and accompany every single move they made. You make up sound effects on the spot to accentuate their gestures to get audience reaction. Circus orchestras are specially trained so a tough gig to get. Luckily, I was young with no shame but the clowns approved at least.

I really miss shows like the Smothers Brothers and Ed Sullivan that had great acts like this.

Wow. How do you rehearse this? I guess like the Brothers he developed it in stages over time.
Absolutely splendid. And Tommy right there in the beginning. Vaudville was awesome. And now Dickie is the very last of the vaudvillians.

Cut the video too early, one of the best parts is how he gets increasingly shorter as he walks around in circles then finally off stage having shrunk about 2 feet.

Pity it cuts off his final trick where he walks round in a circle then off stage getting shorter and shorter as he squats lower and lower but carries on walking. The strain on his leg muscles must have been eye-watering.

If it works then why change it? The 3 Stooges went on for nearly 50 years with the same stuff. I don't consider myself simple minded but sometimes I like to watch something that I can just watch and not have to think.

Why do I keep thi king about the Rolling Stones 9th British and 11th American studio album?
He wouldn't be out of place in their band too.

@@mortennefer2850 that’s fine. You don’t have to like it. Clearly your opinion didn’t affect his career. Some people like it and some people hate it. Some people don’t even know who he is. I just learned of him a week ago and I love it. Maybe in 20 years, if I’m alive, I won’t like it as much.
