They crop some the characters parts out (such as cloud) so when you play team battle, they want a specific amount of the background color so you can see what team they’re in
They should've done that with Lucas

9:30 Bruh, Link is wearing a durag XD
For hero alt 2, (3rd battle portrait) the right bit of hair did not stick out. Hero alt 3 (4th battle portrait) looks accurate compared to the final. For Banjo and kazooie, kazooie did not get screwed and they moved banjo a little to fit her in the final battle portrait.
Next video should be fixing Smash stages with their mini flaws

I quite like to see you try and rearrange the fighter selection screen by sorting the roster by series instead of first appearance similar to how it was in previous games like Smash 4.
Not only would look more neater but it’ll also make it easier to find the character you want to play as since it’s a mystery on why Sakurai hasn’t added an option like that.

interesting idea! i prefer the way they handle it in the game for a lot of these, but there's a few that you definatly improved, like shulk, female villager and mr.g&w. fun vid

Great video! I'm glad someone like you also took notice of this small detail and I really enjoyed watching you going further into explaining about the design and methods the developers could of done to make the character portrait pop out more without interfering with the character's UI.

Nintendo fans usually dont complain about delays. The only one I remember people being angry about was botw. It got delayed 3 years, tricking people into buying a wii u thinking it'll be the only way to play it

The originals were probably the designers artistic choice. They did what they thought looked natural, and so did you. It's two different perceptions of the same "problem".
The meta knight with his left arm out looks good, but tbh the original looks the best.

This is a really cool video, I can kind of see why they went with certain decisions, like with Link with your modified design it kind of looks like link is poking his head through some hole, rather than framing his face. Idk how to concisely describe it, but I definitely think that some of these examples look better with the original versions because of that.
I'm always going to look at the portraits and remember what they could have been like...
here's a couple I thought of:
Incineroar - Revenge damage increases the more he takes, so maybe make a display based on how much he takes?
duck hunt - down special rotates. Maybe show which Gunsman he has next in line
I think keeping Banjo's gold feathers hidden is good and helps for balancing reasons, so no need to change that.

I really like the whole “jumping out of the box” aesthetic.
At 5:40, the custom portrait without the Rope Snake’s head still has its body intact behind Lucas’s left shoulder.
Bet a thousand bucks the fish hat thing in that one Hero alt is going to be cropped.

And to think that someone does all of this effort just because an elbow didn't show in a video game.
It looks like the original designs tend to overlay only one or two sides of the box the character is in. For instance, Mario’s hat goes over the top and his right fist goes over the left side; Lucario’s ears go over the top and the black head appendages go over the left side; and Zero Suit Samus’ hair goes over the top and right side. There are some that don’t follow this rule, like Ridley, who has something overlapping three sides rather than two, but the point remains that *most* of them have a no-more-than-two-sides-overlapping rule. I’d assume it’s because GameFreak didn’t want things to look too cluttered or busy at the bottom of the screen. Idk, though. Good video!
