    Hello, I have a 20 AMP double pole switch that works as follows: Its a Light switch in a guest bedroom with a Neutral (on the Top Left), Black Hot wire (on the Top Right) and Red Cable (on the Bottom Right). This Bottom right cable is only HOT when the master bedroom light switch is turned on). The Bottom Left terminal is blank. The house was built in the 20's and this setup I am told was used as security feature to turn on lots of bedroom ceiling lights from one dedicated switch in the master bedroom. When the master bedroom switch is in the ON and the Red Cable is hot the guest bedroom light switch remains on thereby keeping the ceiling lights illuminated. Can you describe how many throws it has? Thank you!

    Can you replace a 15 amp, AC, 2 pole, single throw switch to a water heater with a 1 pole, 1 throw switch? Currently the switch has a pole for the positive and the negative for both in and out or on and off. Could either the negative or positive wires be wire-nutted together and use a single pole switch to open and close the other wire or circuit to open and close the circuit?

    I'm looking for a very specific button switch. It is DPDT momentary with NO OFF STATE. I want to connect Plus-to-A, Minus-to-B while it's not pressed and Plus-to-C, Minus-to-D while it's pressed. I see 'dpdt' used to mean all kinds of different things, but it seems like all of them have an off state. if any are exactly the thing I need I can't tell for sure. Is there any sequence of exact words that will be used to describe exactly the kind of switch I need to find?

    Maybe somebody can help me with this.
    Say for ex: I have microphone A ,B, and C. The switch has 2 positions. In position 1 microphone A and microphone C go through the switch. In position 2 microphone B only is allowed through the switch. Regardless of the position the output of the switch goes to a speaker. Rather your on position 1 or 2. All microphones are on the same speaker. But not at the same time.
    2 inputs. One output.
    Would this be a double pole single throw? Thank you in advance to anyone that offers advice. (Its actually for guitar pickup wiring.)

    • @ESwitchInc
      @ESwitchInc  2 роки тому

      On the surface I would say it’s a double pole/double throw.
      In either position 1 or 2 there is a closed circuit (microphone closed) so that would make it a double throw since each position has a closed circuit.
      On the number of poles, it appears that in position 1 they have one separate pole for mic A and another separate pole for mic B (A & B are wired separately to different terminals on the switch). This would mean 2 poles (even if doesn’t use both in position 2). However, what isn’t clear is if you wire both “A” & “B” to the same closed circuit. If you do, then it would be considered a single pole/double throw.

    Hello thanks for the video. I would like to ask please which switch I need: I would like to have two independent circuits which switch on at the same time but remain independent of each other. I have an interface which mimics keystrokes (when a switch is closed) attached to the PC via USB but I would also like the switch to operate an LED at the same time (this would be repeated with many of the switches), however the LED is attached to its own power supply and do not want the current to flow into the interface, or PC. Am I correct in assuming I need a DPDT on/off switch for this? Thankue for your time.

    please can you help a noob, can somebody tell me if i can wire a 3 pole
    relay as a single pole, i think thats what i want/need?, i needed a
    relay to turn on and off from - 24vac,on the coil side-, 240v 35a on the
    main load , and with out spending silly money i could only find a 3
    pole one cheap, thats 35 amps , all i need it to do is when activated by
    the 24v ac , allow the current of my 240v ac to pass to make the
    circuit, and that can be just the live or the live and neutral, etc etc
    if
    it can be done?, would wiring it so my live splits and goes in to all 3
    poles and then out all 3 poles(when activated), to give more current,
    as its for my mig welder ,(24v trigger), so more amps the better, thank
    you

      If I read it correctly you want a 1 phase to be used as a 3 phase?
      That can't be done as the phases are 120 degrees seperated in the sinus wave.
      1 phase keeps being 1 phase of 230v
      It never goes to 380V
      Nor will it increase your amps, if you got 16 amps at the start it can only remain at 16 amps.
      If you got 1 liter of water, it will still be 1 liter even after you used 300 cups to poor it in.
      What you start with is what you end with.

      Not at the same time. You could probably choose which two are on; but to have all four circuits on would require a 4 pole switch.

    Can someone help? if you have a light switch in the long hallway, you have three switches that can turn on and off at the beginning/middle/end of the hallway. Would you call these as Single pole, triple throws? thanks for explaining.

    • @ESwitchInc
      @ESwitchInc  2 роки тому

      Hi!
      Two of the three switches in this circuit are called 3-way switches and they are SPDT (single pole, double throw) switches.
      The third switch in this circuit is called a 4-way switch and is a special version of a DPDT (double pole, double throw) switch. It’s special because the throws are shared between the poles.
      Here is a short article describing the wiring. joneakes.com/jons-fixit-database/1729-Can-I-have-three-light-switches-controlling-one-light

    A double throw single throw switch in a bathroom for fan and light. Why are 2 poles needed. Why not 1 pole supplying both devices ???

    • @ESwitchInc
      @ESwitchInc  2 роки тому

      Hi, thanks for your question:
      Electrically, 2 poles aren’t needed (assuming the switch contact can handle carrying the current required to run both devices).
      There may be other application restrictions (i.e. proximity of the fan & light) or building codes that require this be done with 2 poles.
