  • Morning! I know some of you have spotted the WHOOP band I've been wearing for the last couple of months so I figured it was time to share my own experience. In this video I give an overview of the WHOOP band, the app and monthly reports and insights, review the pros and cons of using WHOOP and explain why Heart Rate Variability or HRV is an interesting metric to track for cyclists and athletes.
    These are my own experiences thoughts and opinions, this video is not sponsored, endorsed or commissioned by WHOOP.
    Like anyone who uses WHOOP, I have a 'Refer a friend' code that you can use to get a free band and a free month: join.whoop.com/JULIET

    Great video Juliet, the best most open and informative review of whoop I’ve seen ! Thank you for this and all the other great content.

    I've found the latest Garmin watches with their body battery function to be pretty good for this sort of thing, no subscription needed either.

    Hi Juliet, I have had a whoop for 14 months now, and your findings match what I have experienced with it. I really enjoyed your review, it felt balanced and your description of HRV was great. Thanks cheers Tom✌️

    This is probably beside the point, but I like your lighting and background set-up in this video. The plant and partial bike wheel make for a well balanced composition, and lighting on you and the white backdrop was spot-on. Everything about the autonomous nervous system is fascinating, especially when you consider how clever your system is behind the scenes even on a morning when you are stumbling around, pre-caffeine. It’s like being a sleepy astronaut strapped in above a Saturn V rocket. Thank heavens we don’t have to steer.

    I've been using Whoop for about 18 months now and really like the insight it gives me. We all know alcohol isn't great but when you see just how much it affects your recovery it really helps me cut back. 11 days green is my record but I'm going to beat that this month!

    Been using it for a year and enjoy it. I don't follow it as closely as I could (i.e. i"m always over my strain) but the patterns I've noticed, especially around sleep and what impacts my poor sleeping, are super helpful. So like you said, it's adjusting how I behave outside of training.

    Good video. Been using for a year. What I found surprising was how you can build up a high cardiovascular strain just in your normal daily life even with no workout. Also I like the respiratory rate metric. You are right about wrist HR sensors they do lag. Chest strap is better

    Very timely, thank you. I over trained the other week and ended up injured. I thought I had self awareness and discipline to back off but didn’t. My physio mentioned Whoop, but it seemed way too expensive. My Gamin 935 doesn’t have body battery and I can’t justify upgrading the Garmin.

    Hey Juliet, love your channel.
    Is there any way you could possibly compare this to a sportswatch (Garmin, Polar, Sunnto) in terms of accuracy? I see that the HR data analysis in Whoop is superior.
    Cheers

    I was sold by a review on GCN last year UNTIL I saw the price. Afraid I stuck with the app I had already on my phone which cost about £5 to go pro. Like you I use garmin for the activity tracking bit. Good vid 👍

    I’ve been running Whoop for a couple of months now and have found it extremely accurate as a Heart Rate Variability monitor as it takes this reading whilst you’re in a deep sleep. I’ve been really impressed with the results so far 👍🏻 Also, important to keep the strap tight, further up from the wrist. If you want Whoop to suggest more sleep then set it to “Peak Performance”. I know what you mean about the subscription and the way I approach this is it’s like have a doctor / sports coach on your wrist for an annual sub. Does your tattoo not hinder the HRV reading?

    I never had to tag an activity it always auto detects my workouts as cycling even inside on the kickr.
    A lot of the time you don't get immediate detection / feedback, you just have to wait for it to go off to the servers and work everything out, then it will eventually notify you.

  • @Fixin-To
    @Fixin-To 3 роки тому

    Juliet, my only major gripe with it is also the sleep but for the opposite reason. It recommends ridiculous and unrealistically long sleep periods, usually over 10hrs a night often up to 12?! Mental.
    Ps. I used your code to get it, cheers! ;-)

    Had one for a few months...found the data really useful, but couldn't personally justify the monthly cost...one tip (based on bitter experience), don't get it wet while using the battery pack for charging. The device is waterproof, but the battery pack isn't!

    Good Morning! My day is brighter already! Love data, sensors, and geeking out. However, since I’m not a professional athlete, I need to exercise when I can. If I feel bad, I’m still going, and I will push as hard as I can. I do like seeing positive results from healthy behaviors, but everything in moderation, including moderation! My biggest take away from Whoop? Elastic watch bands are OK! Put one on my Fitbit, never going back to silicone.

    Hi Juliet
    I have been enjoying your UA-cam channel , so nice to see a woman into cycling. I have a cyclocross bike (Ridley )and I love it , I have done a few gravel races and cross races but mostly train for gravel . When I put long hours in two to three hour rides I find my butt really starts to hurt . Can you comment on woman specific seats or any tips you have for a more comfortable ride .

    My Garmin forerunner 245 does pretty much all that stuff. Sleep, respiration rate, stress scores, recovery times, etc. Wouldn't be happy to pay a monthly subscription for a similar data set.

    I'm unsure how much extra info it really gives you over, say, a Garmin band/watch that does it for free. My Garmin band is also terrible at detecting when I'm asleep and when I'm awake, I don't know if the Whoop is any better. I've tried using the data to adjust things, but honestly my legs tell me pretty much the same thing each day.

    The problem with Whoop is the presciption model. In the long term, I have found out it is twice as expensive as the Oura Ring 2.0 and (the last I looked) if you stop using the Whoop ring you loose the data. Whoop is a good recovery benchmark product that is comparitively over priced. As for a activity/performance device, neither Oura Ring or Whoop (although Whoop is slightly better between the two) are as good as Garmin, Polar or Wahoo devices.

  • @alsayers

    Whoop is not perfect but overall I like it. I have been using it for over a year now. It not track workouts well at all. It would be nice if you could over ride the wrist strap with a normal heart rate strap. Or a least link the data from my Garmin to the Whoop app. The sleep and recovery functions are why I use it and why I will continue to do so. Long term subscriptions are very reasonably priced.

    That plant is a meme. Light pulse wrist Meters have come on leaps but I still prefer a chest strap monitor for accuracy. The wrist types are good for sleep monitoring.
    Monthly fees add up when you have zwift, trainer road, trainer software😦

    I love my gadgets but all the science based reviews I’ve read on the whoop, they all say that the HR readings are vastly inaccurate which for me makes it pointless. Shame as the concept is great but the tech needs to get better before I invest

    I assume you've read the DB Rainmaker review of the Whoop band? The conclusion is that the entire device is fundamentally flawed as a result of an outdated and in accurate sensor. I agree that the app looks really slick, and I like the data outputs, however if that data is inaccurate in the first place then what's the point!

    • @rrosomasa

    • @maxpedals5956
      @maxpedals5956 3 роки тому +1

      @@rrosomasa It makes sense that if you're going to be relying on a widely marketed wearable/sensor to give you training and performance insights then you would read up about the ability of the wearable/sensor to actually do that accurately. DC Rainmaker is probably the absolute authority on analytical and detailed fitness tech reviews.

    This is just waiste of money in my opinion. You don't even own the data (directly unless you transfers the data) and even worse Whoop can analyze and sell your data. Come on, I don't even understand how people get this kind of gadgets and pay such a high rate for a system that is not even accurate at all.
