I know oxtails are very expensive in the US. We pay about $20.00 per pack of 6 healthy oxtails at our grocery store. Alot of people are buying oxtails now there's so many dishes oxtails are good with, I can remember oxtails costing $3 or$4 dollars per pack back in the 1990's.
Mildred,,where I live here in Montgomery, Alabama they cost like $50.00 a pack in our stores..I'd say they have like 12-14 bones in it..ridiculous..but I'd still buy them sometimes

Its not just in Japan.. Oxtails are expensive here in Australia too.. i think now the old cuts of meat that used to be cheap are now "trendy" which has made them desirable and also expensive..
