The Altera FD 20 has plastic dogs in the handle. These engage with metal teeth in the spindle, and mine disintegrated after a few trips. Other Okuma reels have stood up to years of use, but plastic parts subject to leverage are a terrible engineering solution, even on a 20 size reel.
What do you think of the jaw30? My daiwa ninja 2500 is playing up so looking to get a reasonable replacement for spinning. Really like the look of the Jaw and have had good Okuma reels in the past. Would you recommend the Jaw?

I have two altera 40. I’m looking at getting an ultra light setup and trying to figure out if I need an even smaller reel as there’s no detail of 500, 1000 etc when it comes to sizing. Do you have any idea of the 20, 30, 40 in altera compared to the 500, 1000 that everyone references?
Sorry I took so long to respond, haven't seen this comment until now. I recently got a "standars" 500 reel (budget) and it's not much smaller that the Fox Warrior 1000 (2020). Altera is ligher and cheaper also. The Jaw performs better. But if you strech the budget a bit, you could go with a Foxrage (2020 model) Warrior, either in 1000 or 2500 size.

I really like the reel, smooth and good action. But it hasn't had a lot of use, as all of us I have quite a bit of gear... :)

Which one do you recommend? i was thinking of getting the altera cause its lighter but what about performance and resistance in corrosion ?

From these two I'd go for the Jaw. I don't know about the Alaris really.
Altera, alaris and jaw have almost the same body. Except for the colors.
