I absolutely love my 981 GT4, just enough power to not get yourself tied in up in knots but enough to get the best racing. And the noise it makes it’s addictive, you are right you would swear it had an aftermarket exhaust. As a percentage from new cost they have done well on depreciation.
I also own the 718 version and I’m very pleased with the sound. It also goes better and handles better than the 981. Plus it looks better. I think the attraction to the 981 is obviously the noise and the fact that they were made in limited numbers. But the 718 is the better car in my eyes at least 😅
981 all day long... character, sound, emotion, and feel is lost in the newer cars, especially the 718, which feels numb in comparison (not that it's bad by any means!) the 981 Spyder In my view is the sweet spot for road and track.
As an owner of both 981 and 718 GT4, the only thing the 981 has over the 718 is the sound, however add some drop in BMC filters and have the valves constantly open the 718 sound fantastic 👍🏻
On my way to test drive and possibly move forward with a racing yellow 981 gt4 out here in the states. Letting go a g87 m2 for it. Less power but more involvement. Very excited!
981. And unless you're gonna track it, GTS is so much easier to live with than the GT4. It's a shame the gearing is so annoyingly tall in the manual. 85mph in 2nd is ridiculous
If they were both manual, the 718 would get my vote as I would want to enjoy it on the road as well as track to maximise time driving it. I believe it would be a better all round 'daily' and it isn't like you don't get a nice exhaust tone or volume, just not as loud as the 981.
Like both of them a lot, but I like my 987.2 2010 Cayman S better and would like to have the GT3/4 RS MA1/9A1 4.0 engine in it. I've seen a Cayman with this swap and it's unreal.
718 is definitely the better car but needs an exhaust change. Stock exhaust on 981 sounds great as is, but most of the people I know with 981 GT4 end up changing exhaust anyway for weight loss and performance gain.

@@Redducati1199 100% they are great on residual values, I followed a 981 GT4 up a mounting pass and the sound was just brilliant and that was stock!
981 gt4 owner here, the sound is the difference maker for me. Beyond that, it’s just a tad bit more of a raw driving feel
@@PhyFK8 absolutely! You enjoy that fab car 🙌🏻
718 GT4 owner here, obviously made my choice. May well end up changing the exhaust one day if I can be bothered but it sounds great regardless

718 4.0 owner here who did not realize just HOW MUCH better that 981 sounds!!!! Ugh I’m jealous of 981 owners who get to listen to that every day!!!

981... never looked back.
I have the Porsche 718 Spyder in yellow. Love it!!! (Mine has a titanium OA PF delete exhaust so it sounds great!).

981 is so good
981 hands down sounds better but the 718 has the better engine. Builds power right to redline whereas the 981 engine falls off
Had a 981 GT4 for 5 months… Couldn’t get away with it, bit sluggish and far too heavy clutch for my liking
@@craiggibbon1985 I get that but on the short twisty roads in the right gear it’s hard for most cars to try keep up you. Incredible balance on them
