thank you im trying to help my son get his permit, this really simplified everything, I remembered getting mine but most everything has changed to online, back when I got my permit I had to attend in person classes, that was 19 years ago lol
In California, if you’re 18 or over then you don’t have to take all the steps that I mentioned in the video. You don’t need to take driver’s ed or hold your permit for 6 months after getting it. Just go into the DMV, take and pass the written test, and whenever you feel ready, you can take the drivers test.
CarVision if you pass the written test can you drive with a person with a license for practice? Or how else do you get driving practice ? I know I can pass the written test but I need hands on practice
@@Dakkrii If you are 18 and up then yes you can use an adult to practice with. You can also take driving lessons if that helps if you are over 18. If you are under 18 then you have to do the 6 hours with an instructor regardless if you can or cannot afford it.
Ok so let me get this straight. The first step is to complete drivers ed. Then fill out the DL44 paper. Then make a appointment to the dmv to apply for a original driver license. After paperwork You can finally take the written test and after you pass you get permit and wait six months and During the 6 months we take 3 classes with a driving instructor but also have to have certain hours with a parent behind the wheel and after those six months we can take the behind the wheel test and get our license????? Sorry I know this is a lot but I just need to know
I got 78% on my drivers ed and said I passed , when do I get to take my lesson with driver instructor ? And how many hours do I need to do behind the wheel with my instructor ?
Thanks a lot for this video it really helped! But I still have a couple questions: How much is the usual cost to setup an appointment with an instructor? and Can you do a walk in written test?
I’m glad it helped! Usually driving schools give a discount if you buy three lessons upfront (enough for the CA requirement). That cost me about $300. You can do a walk in written test but you’ll probably have to deal with a long wait. If you want to walk in, get to the DMV really early so you can get a spot in the front of the line.
2:04 So how do I get a licensed instructor? Is it through the DMV and then how do you prove that you've taken three lessons when you get your license? Also is the three lessons including the one you had to take right after getting your permit?
You can find an instructor by doing an online search for one in your area. When you complete the three lessons, the driving school will give you a certificate that you show to the DMV to prove that you’ve completed the three lessons. The three lessons does include the one you have to take after getting your permit.
Yeah you can do that but you may need to get two signatures from both your parents or legal guardians if you’re under 18. Unless you can bring them both to the DMV on the day you apply, then I would fill it out in advance.
I have a question. If I fail the behind the wheel test 3 times under 18, do I have to wait 6 months again? Another question does drivers ed. certificate ever expire after a year? It’s cause I’ve heard of that rumor before a couple of years ago
I’m 15 and I have to take a 32 hour drivers ed. The dmv said I need to complete first 6 hours of drivers ed to get my certificate. This video says I have to complete the whole drivers ed. Idk what to do
The 6 hours is the requirement for behind-the-wheel training which is what you need to do before you get your license. To get the permit you only need to complete the driver’s ed which is a classroom or online course that teaches you the theory and concepts of driving.
Okay so I am 17 years old and started a drivers ed account . I did the payment and so far have taken 2 practice test , but I am frustrated to not being able to understand what to do in the page . If I don't know how to handle the page pls tell me how to get my money back if I don't know what to do.
I believe the classes are 30 hours. The online course is also supposed to be the equivalent of 30 hours but it doesn’t take nearly as long because most of them are self-paced. I recommend doing that.
If you are under 17 and a half, you need to take behind the wheel lessons from an instructor. If you get your permit after 17 and a half then you don’t need to do this but you will have to wait until you’re 18 to take your behind the wheel test. Hope this helps.
I swear that part Is really confusing! Some of my friends have told me that they did not have to do the driving test with an instructor in order for the permit to be valid! (California)
I’m not sure the similarity because I’ve never actually used that app. The test is pretty simple though. One resource I used was driving-tests.org which was pretty similar to the actual test in my opinion.
Hello, I have and important question that I was hoping you can help me with. I know that if your over 17 1/2 You don’t need drivers ed or driver training to take permit. But you need to wait until your 18 to be Abel to take the driving test. My question is, if I’m over 17 1/2 and I take my permit without the drivers ed, and driver training, and then after getting the permit I do the 6 hours needed of the driver training , can I schedule and appointment for the drivers test or do I still have to wait until I’m 18 to be able to take the drivers test?
You can’t get your permit until you turn 15 and 1/2 in California. You can take drivers ed before that but they won’t let you apply until you turn 15 and a half.
Question- I completed my 25 hours on my drivers ed but I didn’t finish all the lessons can I stop or do I need to do all the lessons before I get the certificate in the mail?
You will receive a certificate when you complete drivers ed which you will have to show to the DMV to get a learners permit. Once you receive your permit, you will need to take 6 hours of lessons in order to take your drivers test and get a license. Once you complete your 6 hours of behind-the-wheel lessons, you’ll receive another certificate which you show to the DMV on the day of your drivers test.
I just finished my drivers ed class, and currently waiting for my certificate to get here, I'm 16. When do I get my dl44? Do I walk in by myself or make an appointment to get it. And last question is, when I get my permit I'm still not allowed to drive with a 25 year old licence person until one lesson with instructor ?
Get your DL44 as soon as you can and you don’t need to make an appointment to get one, you can just walk in and pick it up. Yes, before you can drive with another licensed driver 25 or older, you must complete one lesson with an instructor.
So recently I checked the site and now it says 6 hours of professional lessons are required. Is that true because some sites say it’s required and some say it’s not.

I got my permit last week and I'm about to turn 18 in about 2 weeks. Do I have to wait 6 months to take the behind the wheel test? I live in CA by the way too.
Yes, you need 50 hours of practice with a licensed driver over age 25 including 10 hours at night. When you take the behind-the-wheel test at the DMV, you sign a form stating that you completed this requirement.
So i did the drivers ED, sat on my ass for 12 hours straight and passed the test and it was easy as shit .. not sure what ppl in the comments r complaining abt .. so i have a question: what’s the point of the DL44 ..? Basically it’s an application for a drivers license. It’s the form you fill out to get your permit and then eventually your license. You can usually just walk into the DMV and grab one in 5 minutes but I’m not sure how it works now because of COVID.

I think the video needs to be updated as there is REAL ID now in California for those who are NOT undocumented.
This video is meant for teenagers who want to apply for a learner’s permit in CA. Despite the new Real ID policy, the process to apply is still the same. Applicants just need to provide additional identification information and their SSN that can be found on DMV’s website.
If you take it drivers ed at school, it’s free!
That’s if they offer it. Many schools do not.
My friend tells me that you pay $25-$50 bucks. Then you pay $300. What does the $300 even mean?
I'm not entirely sure. The behind-the-wheel driver training costs around 300 dollars, but the only fee you pay to the DMV is $33 to sign up for the permit and take the test.
Ok so do you have to do the behind the wheel training?
Yes, that is required in California to get your license. I’m not sure about other states but I’m sure they have a similar requirement.
This isn’t a freedom this is a privilege
