- “7 Little Johnstons” stars Trent and Amber Johnston spoke with Access Hollywood about the upcoming season of the hit TLC series. They reveal why they were hesitant for their daughter Anna to move out on her own, saying they wanted her to have a full-time job first. They also talk about their daughter Elizabeth and her relationship as well as what fans will see unfold this season. “7 Little Johnstons” returns to TLC on May 25 at 8pm PT/ET.
I know how Anna feels. Sometimes it’s just obvious that your parents love you but don’t respect or like you. It hurts. Sorry Anna.

Amber needs to be the parent and not acting like a child towards Anna. A mother doesn't go three weeks without speaking to her child. That is just messed up.

Amber is frustrated with Anna. I would shut down also. Anna is very demanding and a little brat.
Love Amber - she is being a parent and not trying to be a friend to her kids...the tough love has to be used to set kids up for the future. Being LP is a challenge enough, being independent is necessary for all kids after a certain age. Anna and Elizabeth are 2 different personalities - Anna has always been difficult....wild...uncontrollable. She needs to be reined in, that's what parents are there for.
I’m sorry but my son can always come back home. I’d never tell my son that once your gone your gone. Just because their 18 doesn’t mean you stop being a parent.
He didn’t say that in so many words. He said that they would help any of their adult children if they had an emergency.
They specifically said that they needed to give their son a nudge because he was failing to launch.
Now maybe you’ll fully provide for your kid until they are 50 and maybe you can. However, you shouldn’t shame people for parenting differently.
I think Amber's whole posture changes whenever Anna is brought up. Amber treats Anna differently then she does Elizabeth she seems to favor Elizabeth. Jonah has always spoken his mind and there has been some very tense moments with him however he does not seem to get penalized. Everything Anna does is held against her and comes with harsh correction. I feel the children are in such a hurry to move out due to the relationship they have with their parents. I love the show but my heart goes out to Anna.
I think what we see is the result of behavior patterns by very different kids in a family. All three of my boys were extremely different personalities and were treated very different therefore. An extreme introvert vs an extreme extrovert. One girl who tends to be less able to think about a situation before she is vulnerable vs one who would be watchful ahead of time. Protecting your kids from themselves is great parenting.

Did you mean to say “demeanor” instead of “posture?” Yes I saw that as well. Anywho, I see what you mean about the different treatments between Elizabeth and Anna. However, they have both shown their parents different types of behaviors, so in short, Anna seems to be the one who gets into trouble by her choices, so the parents react the way they do. I feel that they are fair to Anna and all she has to do is show maturity and growth and they will give her what she deserves.

I have a daughter that seemed to make bad choices. I received calls from the school and letters from teachers. Parents do have a different demeanor based on the child. I agree Jonah gets away with his attitude more than the others especially Anna. They are trying to make Anna look at life so she doesn't get into bad trouble. They pushed her for school and is doing great as they knew she could. Unless you have had to deal with it you wouldn't understand. I don't agree with them all the time but can understand. 😇

I love the show but unfortunately it is quite obvious they treat Anna differently than the other children I understand that she has had some challenging behaviour that effected their trust with her but we all do silly things when we are younger but I hope it doesn’t be used against her for her whole life
They treat her differently because they recognize she has certain issues and they are doing what they think is best for her. She has had some behavioral issues in the past and they are concerned. The world would be a lot better place if more parents tried to help kids with their issues the way the Johnsons do.
It’s about that her behavior ( with no u) is effecting her maturity. That’s why her and Jonah are treated differently because, they act very passive and, disrespectful. The thing is there not trying to be harsh the fact here is there parents, parents did you get that? A parents a job is to parent even through every stage of life, they are trying to keep them in line so, there children will succeed in life, not so, they will be set- up for failure.

@@sonyafox3271 behaviour is spelt this way in Australia. I also know how to parent I have 3 children and when we need to be firm with them I don’t hesitate it’s just my personal opinion that they are being way harder on her we don’t all have to agree I was just stated my opinion is all.
I've seen Amber & Trent laugh with every child but Anna.. they only laugh with Anna when it's in a group setting.... Anna i think your great, amazing,smart & funny. I think your gonna be just fine!!!!!
Feel sorry for Anna - there is some discrepancies in how she is treated. she just can't explain her feelings in a clear way, they need to give her time to explain herself instead of assuming things all of the time.
Momma Johnston, be careful. You don't want to lose Anna. Anna is working 2 part time jobs because YOU are deciding that she should be subbing as a career. If she could follow the career she wants in day care, she would clearly be working full time. She told us all that's what she wants but that she CAN'T tell you because she fears your reaction. Stop being so controlling with Anna before she just leaves. Amber..do you even have a clue WHY Anna might want to be working with small children?
I totally agree, I had a very controlling foster mother and she was the main reason I married at 17 to get away from from her. I never felt good enough and my brother was held up as and example of perfection (he could do not wrong). Anna and Elizabeth are different people with different personalities and can not be dealt with in the same way and yes it has been noticed that Elizabet is something of the golden child and in many way Elizabeth is more adult in handling Anna than the parents. I feel for Anna feeling lesser than. Anna may well bolt to escape the pressure to measure up to example of Elizabeth dangled over her head by Amber and Trent.

I personally love Anna. Every family average or small has that kid. There is always the gentle one, the over achieving and the one that is challenging. (I think my kids take turns!) I know the emphasis of the show is that they are small, but when I watch I just see a great typical family
I just LOVE Ana as well. I feel as though she is the black sheep of their family just because she had made some mistakes here and there it does not mean to hold it against her whole life ! Geesh ! I would hope mas a parent myself that they would little by little let Ana become that responisible young lady that she knows that she can become until proven other wise. xxx ooo, muah!Peace1 BE STRONG Ana!
Amber’s facial expressions when they bring up Anna moving out is very telling to how she really feels about it

I think anna just wanted you all to be excited for her. Sometimes you just have to let kids go and if they fall they learn. It seemed like no matter what anna said to amber about her plans of moving out amber could have been more supportive instead of arguing with her which no one wins
Anna can’t afford to move out, if she does she will have to be 100% financially dependent on them. Where as Elizabeth has everything planned out Anna just wants to do it, just to go but not have any adult responsibilities
Amber treats Anna like the unwanted stepchild. It’s difficult to watch. Amber shames Anna and has very little encouraging words around Anna. There are better ways to help Anna become successful. There are better ways to help her not shame her or blame her. Amber seems embarrassed by Anna. She is an incredible young woman !
and it’s like the younger children seem to hitch a ride with amber, in criticizing and making fun of Anna, as though they them selves can do no wrong.. i would imagine trent stepping in and putting a stop to it all.. The younger two only do it because there mom does it so why not, let’s all belittle Anna it’s “Normal “...😡
There is a big age gap between Anna and her younger siblings there should be boundaries a little respect at least...

I really don’t see that. I think she loves Anna very much but recognizes that she is impulsive and doesn’t think things through. She’s being a good parent.
And still they bring up Anna's mistakes, over and over. She was a vulnerable kid trying to fit in, I know she needed to be punished, but she has grown, Amber keeps bring it up, shaming her ever chance she gets.
This sounds like Amber may be a narcissist. Narcissist mothers often have one child who is the black sheep or scapegoat (they are never good enough and get punished a lot) and a golden child (who is alloed to do everything and never gets punished).
If I had parents like u I dont think I would want to go home u have your favorites some of the things u say dont make any sense did u think when u we're teens
Anna is definitely not treated the same as Elizabeth by Amber. Amber is not affectionate with Anna. My heart goes out to Anna. She's sweet and kind and needs alot of extra love which Amber doesn't give her.
@@kimfurtado2852 Kim, you're correct! Amber really isn't a very loving parent, especially when it comes to Anna! Trent is way more affectionate than Amber, I feel. I was trying to think when does she ever hug and kiss her kids?? Couldn't remember anytime she did it. Maybe it's just my old age? But I g a very my two kids, a girl and an adopted boy (as a baby), all the affection I could give them! I really hope if they're going to adopt more kids, she comes off her high horse and remembers how to be affectionate with her kids! *sigh*
Was quite disturbing to watch last nights episode. We love this show, but are not enjoying seeing
Anna so upset. Mom DOES treat her differently. I am aware the show is edited, and we don’t see everything, but Anna is having trouble communicating how she is feeling to mom. It’s heartbreaking. Anna obviously knows and feels she is being treated differently. Is it because she was in trouble a lot when she was younger? Is it because she is adopted? Is it a clash of personalities? We felt amber was very harsh last night and could not see what Anna was saying..she just wants you to be proud of her like you are the others. She has grown up a lot in the last couple of seasons..I believe respect should go both ways..please get help in talking effectively with Anna..
Glad Trent and Amber werent my parents. Its their way or the highway and they do have favorites.
Any time Anna's name is brought up you can see on Amber's face that she is pissed as hell! She needs to lighten up before the whole family splits!
I see the difference in treatment of Anna and the others. You guys pick on her. Be ashamed if yourselves. You pretend you treat them equally, but you don't. No encouragement, no support. Instead you pick on her. Shame on you. You make her feel like she isn't capable of doing anything.
Ana loved her full time job as a kindergarten teacher and its her heart. Why keep her doing a part time job she doesn't like?
Because it's what AMBER wants. Anna clearly stated she preferred the day care/younger children career. You can see that it's in Anna's heart to be with much younger children. Amber needs to back off before Anna just leaves. I also think Trent and Amber shouldn't allow TLC to encourage any family drama just for ratings! The family already has an huge following. Don't ruin the family for ratings!
I doubt she would make enough even full time in a day care to pay her bills.

@@kaybeyers5804 she is studying early childhood education which she loves according to her. She went to college for 1 year. Then the pandemic hit and took online classes. She has not graduated with any decree as of yet. I may be wrong. Google it. But I do know you do not need a decree to be a sub.

They need to learn to let those kids grow up and find themselves without judgement. They will loose them all if they don’t stop trying to control them!
Ambet had about 3 different careers desires. She needs to back off anna. Plus pay anna for being in the show.

The mom always runs to Alex defense, and he still acts like a baby because of it. Their oldest son is sassy as heck with them. Anna seems to be a slow learner, and that's what gets her into trouble. But... her parents know that about her, so why does Amber get so nasty with Anna? The mom needs to learn how to work around Anna's problem, and not just shut her out when she gets mad at her.
Amber you are a helicopter parent. You need to let Anna be happy and pick what she wants to do with her life.
IMO she is picking on Anna. I don't know why. They were able to buy the big new house due to the children on the show. If it was only the parents there would be no show. It is wrong if a portion of the money they make off the show is not put in trust for each child. they were able to buy that home due to the children being on the show. Now they want to push Anna out. The mother can say they don't want her to leave but their actions say another thing. The mother is making Anna feel bad every day, so who wants to live with that kind of environment. If they had put money in trust for the children Anna by now should have enough to buy her own home. The show has been on air for over 7 years. If Anna does not have the money to buy a home , does that mean they kept all the moeny paid to them by TLC? If that is what happened Anna should seek legal help about it.

Did any of the kids receive a part of TLC earnings...because like u said The big house was bought for doing the TLC show.. and with out the kids they would not be getting the ratings that the do...And on top of that they contradict alot. why are they so hard on anna if Johnna is at the same level as her yet he decided to get off his ass to whip up a podcast just to delay his move out situation as for anna she a parttime job an online business and goes to school!!! ahhh😡
Speaking of the big house, I saw a preview where they were telling the kids they wanted to adopt more kids, or another kid. So that makes sense, kick the older kids out, let new ones in! But will they be babies or toddlers, or 4-5yo's? Or what? It'll take some time to kick out Emma and the Brat, I imagine they'll both stay home and go to college. Unless the older ones quit the show, I imagine there will still be updates on their lives every once in a while, don't you think? Especially, if they get married, have a baby?
I do have to say, that I like the father much more than the mother, most of the time! Maybe her crabbing is because she is going through menopause early?

It is very disheartening to see how Anna is treated. I feel so sorry for her. She has so much to overcome from dwarfism, being adopted, trying to be an adult and trying to navigate overbearing parents. PLEASE, try a little love and understanding 😧

As a child the security of being good parents is if your child moves out too always let them know if it doesn't go well they can always come home,for a while not these parents,I think their just wanting their house too themselves

Sad, its obvious these parents don't like Anna. So what if she wants to pursue an on line business as long as she can pay her bills. This couple is always throwing shade to the oldest kids. This couple doesn't like Jonah either!
These parents PUSH the kids to do what they want and I think they should choose not the parents you have to enjoy what you do NOT BE FORCED!!! It seem they all want to move.

Something is wrong with them. They treat all their children differently and I get that in every family not all the children are the same and that you have to make some modifications however in the Johnstons case they make it so obvious. It's like Trent and Amber have some kind of chip on their shoulder that they don't want their kids, mainly Anna, to succeed. Shoot they are always on Anna however they let that brat of kid Alex do and act however he wants.

I am wondering if the parents watch there show after it's done, because maybe they would see how they pick on some of kids plus sometimes they have it's my way are the highway an they never admit wrong I see three of leaving an not looking back
I wonder the same thing because Amber comes off really disgusted and spiteful towards Anna the way she speaks and act towards her compared to the other children there is a big difference and Trent just goes along with her he is passive aggressive

It’s probably similar to the duggers, just the parents are in on the deal.
I'm pretty sure they want her to get a full time job in order to learn responsibility and commitment. She needs to work on her maturity. Having and maintaining a full time job will help with her growth.
@@ALaughaday1 Except Momma Johnston is determined that Anna's career will be what Momma Johnston says it's going to be. Anna should be able to choose her own career. If she wants "day care" ..if that's what makes her happy, she should be encouraged to do that.

Amber talks about family is important, but then pushing the kids out.
Love the show but sad to see more turmoil in family which happens as kids get older and want to spread their wings. I hope TLC doesn’t “want” family to exaggerate the circumstances for the sake of ratings. That’s when I will tune out.
Emma will probably end up living at home the longest, because she seems to be very chill about everything. Alex acts like a baby sometimes, but he is very intelligent, and will probably get a good paying job because of it.
These 2 are horrible parents.I can't stand how they treat there beautiful children.I am a mom an I would never treat my kids like this.There kid's need really help,not there kind of controlling help.

These parents made their income over the years of having all their kids on tlc. They would have not had the amount of money without the show. Each "actor" should get 1/7 of each episode.

I hope Anna finds her passion and happiness… Amber definitely treats this child differently. Anna may be one of these kids that has to learn things the hard way.. Mama, what are you going to do when your star child lets you down and cuts ties with you. You are not picking up on the cues Elizabeth, Jonah and Anna are giving you.. Been there with my 4..
I can't stand Amber. The way that she treats Anna, is heartbreaking. It's clear that Amber can't stand Anna. The poor girl will require much therapy, to overcome the trauma of emotional abuse. Amber is a horrible mother!

I used to like this show but from the beginning Amber & Trent have made a huge difference between their children ! Alex can do no wrong if he’s upset they baby him still in the Episode with the clogging shows it , when it comes to Anna they treat her different, she has been pined the black sheep of the bunch because Amber wants to tell her what job to take it’s not Ambers choice !! They in it for the money which the kids do not get !!
Amber does not seem to consider Anna's feelings, she may be more comfortable working in a daycare rather then in a high school. Amber always finds a way to criticize her!

I like the show and the family, but I have to say that the parents absolutely favor Elizabeth. Elizabeth thinks she is the oldest and she is far from mature, I'll feel sorry for her boyfriend if he ever decides to go his own way.

That is not all together true. She has butted heads with her did when he was trying to teach her to drive. I do not see evidence that they treat Elizabeth any better than the others . All children are different and have different personalities. I think for the most part they are great parents.

Huh? They don’t favor any of the kids. In fact, I actually feel that Trent seems to have higher expectations from Elizabeth. When it came to driving lessons, they butted heads and he was tough on her. When it comes to Anna, she broke some rules so they aren’t so sure about her being mature enough to be on her own, while maintaining a full time job (to pay rent) and finish school. I think it varies from kid to kid and Trent and Amber are wonderful parents for knowing each of their kids very well. They are in tuned with them enough to know whether they are ready for certain things.

What I like with this show is that Trent is a funny, strong man despite of his size. He and Amber encourage the kids to be fearless, successful

She did and that’s where she is happy working but the mother doesn’t want her to do the subbing job maybe she isn’t making enough money but the show pays them so shouldn’t the older kids get some kind of payment

Do her parents forget the struggles anna may have being that shes adopted? Shes not a bad kid at all ,she’s hurting and trying to find her feet.she needs encouragement. Even if amber (mom) has legitimate concerns , theres a way to say it . Don’t beat her down😒
Anna is an adult and she doesn't need her parents permission to move out,however I do see how much differently Amber treats Anna compared to how she treats Elizabeth,love the family and the show but there is for sure a disconnect between Anna and Amber.

I’ve watched every season and Amber treats Anna like the black sheep, I remember when Elizabeth got to enter the beauty pageant and you could see how sad Anna was because she wasn’t able ( even though it was never discussed)and the episode when Anna worked at a hair salon for the day and was given disgusting jobs to do, I bet the other kids wouldn’t of dared do it much less be filmed doing it, this is just 1 example of several that happened. I will say Trent seems to be more neutral with all the kids.
Agree. The episode where Anna went to the salon was awful. She showed interest in being a stylist not becoming a cleaning lady. Having her do the crappy chores there was not helpful at all and begrading in my opinion.

I 100% agree, you would have to be blind not to see how Anna gets mistreated by everyone and when Trent tries to side with Anna he catches hell with Amber. Tonight’s episode broke my heart seeing Anna in so much pain 😢 thank goodness she has little cruiser as a support, he was supposed to be Elizabeth’s dog but once the new wore off Anna took care of him!
Anna’s plan is a brilliant plan, get through college and move out and and get a full time job later on in life after she finishes college, the parents just don’t agree with her plan, as long as she finds a apartment within her budget and sticks to her plan, she will be fine by herself

Anna rented a house. Her mother took her around to look at some, and she found a nice one, she could afford.
BUT, her sister, Elizabeth, BOUGHT HER HOUSE!! Of course, Elizabeth is Trent and Amber's natural child, and a favorite. The paintings she does, that I have seen on the show, look juvenile, and I would never buy them. Supposedly, she earned the money for the down payment for the house.
But like someone said, are the kids getting paid for being on the show? That could have helped Anna buy a home too!
Anna was very upset that her mother didn't show any excitement about her life and what she was doing in it....but she gets all giddy over Elizabeth's new house, etc. Of course Anna would be upset, wouldn't you?

I wondered if their therapist watched the interactions they have with Anna. I would hope he would tell them Both they put all their family dysfunction on her. The things they say about her in confessionals are hurtful and they need to apologize to her. I do not thinkthey realized that these words will be replayed. They need to fix this before more hurts pile on. There's always a more challenging child. They should be feeling the joy in the fact that Anna has rode her bumps out quite well. Anna got her grounding from them. They should trust it.Too bad they keep bringing up her past mistakes. Don't they get that thats just how some kids learn. But stop blaming any of your kids for family dysfunction. It's abusive. Anna, you did well be proud of yourself. The fall doesn't matter, its how you get up. I think you've been graceful in the way you want to keep a healthier relationship with your Mom. But it's not you fault. Sometimes Mom's just do what their capable of at that time. Keep growing up. All we have is what we see on the show. What I see is Anna, getting badgered by Amber to the point, that she isvagraid to make normal everyday choices. Because, Amber will always love her failures. How can she learn under that pressure. What kind of mother tries to influence her other children to shun her? Also, Anna, would have a full time job, if she wasn't trying to please Amber. So, she set her up to be badgered some more.
I agree that what kind of mother tries to get other siblings to shun one of the children. That is straight out abusive treatment. The mother needs to go get the help she is the one with big problems.
I agree with Pauline 100 percent! The parents treat Ana a WHOLE lot different then they do Elizabeth and it makes me VERY sad all she wants from them is to show some support of moving forward in her life and that they are excited for as well. I am not buying that Ana wanted her birthday to be simple I feel that Ana's parents for some odd reason seem to shun her more. Is it so hard to believe in Ana's enthusiasm of becoming her own adult. Ana believes in herself that she could make it. This makes me so mad. I do not like the parents attitude towards their daughter Ana and also their son Jona. It is NOT easy being a parent for sure. I do not like the mom non exitance emotions for her daughter Ana.I know we are just seeing one side of things we are not there but from this veiw it does NOT look good for you mom especially! :( Ana, no, matter what happens in your life you are supported by many of your fans and we wish you only the VERY best honey. in order to get a an apartment..you have to have proof of income..they will not rent to you if you dont have proof on paper that you can pay rent and utilities

I didn’t grow up in USA and what I observe is that young US adults are very entitled and just lack basic common sense and parents tend to give credit cards without hesitation. I admire these parents, they keep it real and one day their kids will be very thankful. They do work their tail off to provide for the family and obviously know what is best for Anna. They treat their kids as individuals and know what is best for each of them.

Do you give any of the money made from the show to the kids? In savings? You do appear to baby Emma and Alex. I will be curious as time goes on the cry baby Alex is expected to move out someday.
I highly doubt the favorites will ever be expected to move out.
By law, the kids have to be paid and their money is in a trust fund. When they turn 18, they get their money and the parents have no control.

I feel that Amber and Trent are way too strict and they bully them to obey. Just because they were you g and married with kids doesn’t mean it’s the same path her kids should follow. Amber does treat Anna differently. She even said from the beginning of her adoption she wore her out.
@@lisaneglia480 I totally agree....I can't stand Trent....and Amber is getting on my nerves more and more especially with her and Anna. I am a LP....when I was 21 yrs old I was employed full time.....had my own car....boyfriend and friends....I was nwver at home at 21. I didn't have to ask my parents permission to go somewhere. My mother was not telling where I should and shouldn't work....and micromanaging my life. I couldn't believe Amber is still not happy with Anna....she tried to tell her she didn't like substituting the high school kids....and her parents got mad at that....there is no pleasing them.

I have always enjoyed watching The 7 Little Johnston’s!! I have watched you since you began filming. I think of your family like I do our family!! I think Amber and Trent are good parents! Trent is a year older than my son and Amber is the same age if our daughter-in-law! So I can relate a lot with them and my son and daughter-in-law and the way they raise their boys. They have 3 boys. Our daughter-in-law said: “I tried my best for a little girl, and after the third boy was born I decided no more!!” I was lucky, I had a girl then 5 years later I had our son! I love all of The Johnston’s and I’m so happy they will be on another season!!

Jonah is not working full time and he is not going to school. I know that it might be harder to get a job if you have any differences but he is the slacker not Anna. He used to blame Anna that he was failing in school but I doubt that was true. The parents would not let Anna drive so Jonah had to drive her to school and he used that an excuse that he failed in school.

I love the seven johnstons the way they raise there children make them responsible and respectful we need a lot more parents out here like them although the kids can be rude at times her mom is quicker to put them in their place dad I love the way he handle that older son cuz he can be a handful with his mouth but all in all I love this show Mr Johnson he is so funny when it comes down to his wife and his joking I'll be cracking up at him but I love the way Mr and Mrs Johnson love each other and the kids can clearly see that they will know how to respect their spouses and prayerfully their spouses will respect them too ❤️❤️🙏🏾👏🏾

As much as I love to learn more about other peoples disabilities, I never released how poorly some of these parents can treat some of their children, damn.
Bring back the show man and makes me happy I don't care if you have a genetic disorder you guys are awesome and handle it very well
