I think it's a wonderful thing to see the magician be the first part of our journey. He seems to be at a place where I would think most of us consider the end goal of our journey yet he's the first, the foundation, the start. The magician causes me to realize I'm thinking backwards since he's not the final goal but he's where we have the ability to start from.
The story of the Major Arcana can be seen on different levels. But the more interesting one is to see them as our 'conscious' journey through life. ie, when we begin being aware of why we are here. This awareness starts with the magician.
