    My foot is deformed because of a bunion. I can't walk properly and I've been blaming the shoe industry for many years for all the pain shoes caused me. You can't even find out who makes the shoes to complain. Virtually non-traceable. Now I paid the price for wearing garbage. This presentation was amazing and it shows that it's not just pointed high heels that cause bunions, but also regular flat shoes that seem to have a large toe box but is really deceiving because they slowly deform your delicate toe bones and disfiguring your little toenail year after year till it's too late. Mind you, there are some open toe sandals that are killers of feet in a different way with their straps rubbing against or cutting into your feet.

    So I have a question, My names is James I have some foot arch but was flat footed 8 weeks ago, I started short foot training and now my right foot is doing well, but my left foot is still flat. HELP! What can I do?

      Rest and don't make any movement that aggrevate the area you can use a splint to help this
      Take NASIDS and try some stretching exercises to ease the stiffness
      If you have severe symptoms or if other treatments don’t work, your doctor may suggest surgery

    In my unterstanding there is another importent mechanism to take into account:
    1. thick soled Shoes -> weakening intrinsic foot muscles -> collapsing of the transverse arch of the foot -> leading to a pathology known as splayfoot characterized by increased foot wideness in the forefoot.
    2. Due to these stucture changes Splayfoot alters muscle function of intrinsic big toe muscluture (M. adductor hallucis) in such way that the muscle is contributing pulling the big toe outward.

    Hi, Thanks for the great video! How do we determine the correct sizing for the sock shoes you recommend in the description box? My podiatrist insists that I wear a Men's 4E width shoe. Any advice is greatly appreciated 😊

      For us true wide feet these shoes are nowhere near enough room and fall apart to boot. Save your money buy new balance

    Shoes with raised heels may help people squat more deeply, but training in them can still lead to a lot of ankle tightness in my experience. Personally I don't know if it's worth it.

      Also, all brands of olympic lifting shoes as far as I have seen have very narrow toe boxes. Who on earth is designing these products?

    How do the barefoot shoes work with bunions and flat feet?? I flatten any insole I get within weeks.😭 I’m in such pain everyday and all I want to do is run pain free. Should I be running on flat feet or does that do more harm?

    Okay, but what barefoot shoe can I wear on icy ground? Because every Xero, Vivobarefoot, BeLenka, Groundies, FeelGround, Mukishoe etc. etc., winter boot review will say, "This are really great...except on ice."

    It's very hard to find shoes that fit well and I'll keep your tips in mind. One fit metric you didn't include jamming the foot forward in the laced up shoe to simulate walking downhill. A shoe must keep the toes from jamming into the front of the shoe when walking down hill.

    With bunions on both feet, flat feet and having a job that requires standing nearly hours per day, what would you advise? I already use a wide toebox and have for several years. What is your verdict on Earth Shoes?

      Use flip flops or barefoot shoes. I'm in the same boat with having an active job and I use my old sneakers with a wide box to travel trough harsh terrain and then equip my minimal flip flops to work the whole day.

      i hear lems are a good minimalist shoe for standing on hard surfaces for long periods. nice wide toe box, 0 drop, and while the soles are thinner than typical shoes, they're thicker than most barefoot shoes. i got their primal 2 specifically for running errands/grocery shopping/etc, and they're pretty great. only downside is the traction isn't the best, so if you work around watery floors frequently they probably won't work well for you.

    How do you fix plantar fasciitis or heel spurs?

      Take anti inflammatory drugs, stop any activity that makes it worse , ice the area , use comfortable shoes and insert soft silicon heel pad in it to reduce tension and also use night splints and perform physical therapy such as calf stretch and plantar fascia stretch and do massage

    7:09 What's about who should wear orthopedic insols due to avoid plantar fasciitis? Can those be used within these suggested shoes? Or are them supposed to be used without them at all? Thank you.

      Sorry to correct you, but: orthopedic insoles PROMOTE plantar fasciitis.
      You may reduce p.f. by walking barefoot or wearing minimalist shoes.

      @@joachimgutsche As first, thanks for your gently concern. However, I spent ages due to "fix" plantar fasciitis, and these orthopedic insoles succeeded only. Thus, I tried shoes like ones you gently mentioned, but without any results unfortunately. Nowadays, I am experiencing very beginning valgus allux, so I would like to try to avoid its worsening, that is the reason why I am taking in account barefoot shoes too. Overall, I have to precise that I have not both flat feet only, thus I have left coxa vara, left internal twisted tibia and righ foot Morton's Toe, so all these things may be the reason why I need these orthopedic insoles. Thank you very much for your gently message again 👍

      Hopefully I can motivate you a bit to wearing minimalist shoes also furthermore:
      I had spent 60+ years to complete and enlargen my two halluces valgi. Finally I had organized the surgeries to have them fixed. Then the Covid-pandemic occured.
      Last August aged 61 I've started training in minimalist shoes: intrinsic foot musculature has improved, my feet have gotten stronger from week to week, my toes begin to spread, my big toes begin to realign. Meanwhile I run 5 to 10 kilometers two to three times per week, mostly in barefoot sandals (DIY). For the first time in my life my feet feel strong and healthy.

      I will try some barefoot shoes sure, I have just to find shops located near Bologna (Italy) due to test them accurately (I think that buy them online the very first time may be a lottery for my condition 😅).

      @@rikybologna3579 with your list of conditions, please make the transition slowly if you decide to go the barefoot way. What I’ve noticed since I started transitioning 10 years ago is that the whole barefoot thing is just a small part of the puzzle. I’m enough of a barefoot cultist that I only have barefoot shoes these days, but I still think strengthening and stretching out the pelvic-adjacent muscles will give the most bang for your buck - but the shoes will help.
      As for shoes, since you live in mainland Europe, where there’s a huge amount of barefoot manufacturers with really good delivery/returns deals these days, sending them back should be really easy in case they don’t fit. I think there’s at least one or more Vivobarefoot shops in Italy (and I mean, there has to be one in Bologna or I’d be disappointed 😄) and some of the other manufacturers (Joe Nimble, Groundies, Leguanos, Be Lenka) probably offer free returns (or at least cheaper returns than for those of us who are not part of continental Europe).

    I am running in zero drop....but can not walk jn them, as walking u land on heel, and for walking still better to have traditional elevated heel, as its more cushy..

    I spoke to an old lady I cared for in a nursing home and as I was dressing her, she had these terribly bad bunions, her answer, oh I just loved those pointy shoes when I was young. Apparently a gp just explained its genetic. I don't have it, I got other horrible worse things lol

    OK...what if you have a large foot and xxxwide feet, bunions, flatfeet, and when standing your feet fall inward, making your ankles almost touch...and I am a 70 year old woman. I walked a police beat for 6 years. I had to have my shoes made. But, they didn't look like the ones you suggested. After babies, they are so wide, I look in the men's department. I never go anywhere, one reason being, I have no shoes to wear. Now, my very expensive sneakers, are hurting my second toe, which is longer than my great toe. The left one is a hammer toe, the other I guess, normal, but still longer than my great toe. Poor circulation doesn't help How do I find shoes to wear around the neighborhood, and with skirts? Won't my feet still go flat, causing the ankles to fall inward? Which will cause backaches, too. And, since I got a new right knee, my right leg is a quarter of an inch longer, than my left. So, I wear an insert that is a quarter of an inch, and orthoheel inserts for my flat feet. HELP!
    I forgot to add, I had foot drop in my left foot in my late 40's. I have nerve damage and the foot flops, when I walk. Methylcobalamine, a form of B12, and P5P, a form of B6, helped bring the function back to what it is today. Just not a normal foot.

      Even many things you mentioned: if you have the first metatarsal shorter than the second one, you would have a Morton's Toe (the second finger results longer the the first one, but it is the latter's metatarsal the real shorter, so check them).
      Do you have a coxa vara/valga and/or a tibial torsion too? Do your patellas and feet aim the same direction?
      *Overall, refer to your doctor always, we are just talking here.*

    I really like you and learned a lot from your videpos but best shoes for bunions sounds like you are care so much for your precious bunions you buying them a special casing. I find it funny personally it is a bit like: Buy these your bunions will love them and they well deserve a comfy. place.

    In my opinion the way they make shoes is criminal! They probably continue to do it because they know it causes bunions and misalignment of toes down the road so people will seek medical help! Manufactures should not be allowed to make them that way and if someone wants tight shoes let them special order! Most of public buys what is on the shelf!

    Still not wide enough. Doesn't matter what ugly shape you make the shoe. I wear Redwing iron rangers and they are wider than most minimalist shoes, and look like an adult shoe, not clown shoes

    Ok but I have narrow feet most of these shoes seem to be for people with short toes that are the same length all the way across, my feet….oh and please use a foot model 😂 its hard not to wretch when I see them hairy toes

      @PKMN Trainer Christy 💜 repulsion to bodily features is a genetic trait that helps choose best mating choices based on our own genetic markers . It is the way our bodies tell us who’s genes are not compatible with ours. So so so sorry I can’t control my aversion to body hair I wish I was as virtuous as you, my bad. Also the amygdala is ancient so not sure how it can be childish. But ok you’re so perfect gosh if only I was like you 😥
