Just goes to show that surfers gonna' surf when it gets big no matter if they are on the East Coast, West Coast or Gulf Coast, the bravest, and most talented are going to find a way to ride em. My hat is off to the East Coast Crew out on these MONSTERS! The last 30 seconds of of this video is a World Class TUBE ride if I have ever seen one. EXCELLENT JOB to everyone surfing there that day! Much respect you guys.

I just wanted to say I'm speechless. There is another post that shot video of the same wave from what appears to be on the other side of the inlet.
I will have to say that after surfing every FL hot spot on huge days that span 40 years, this by far, hands down has to be the greatest FL wave ever ridden and caught on tape. One for the history books and one that generations of surfers will talk about for years to come. Another Florida told you so!. Thank you Dasher. Thank you Mr. Surfer!!!

Peter Mendia is God. That final wave on this video wasn't the only unbelievable barrel that he pulled throughout this weekend either...Glad I was able to be there to witness it!!!
Grew up on Florida's Central East Coast in the 80s .two best spots New Smyrna Beach (inlet) and Sebastián Inlet and never seen waves of this size throughout the entire decade .Absolutely Awesome

That dude in the red shirt at 5:50 gets a deep, long barrel. This day reminds me of Hurricane Bell when I was a kid. Just the paddle out was a trip. You will never forget a swell like that. Especially when you look back 35 years. Too bad we did not have the technology as you have today. Great video from Fl.

yea ive seen guys like Shane D doing alot more paddling than anything.Still i like that surfing has branched out into diffrent areas.Im too old to ride waves anybigger than over my head.Had a problem out on south beach jetty this sunday.First time ive ever needed to be asissted out of the water.Whoever that guy was man. Thanks bud.Man i felt like a kook.Sometimes you have to know your limits.Kids dont ever feel lame to ask for help.just might save your ass..even this old dog can learn new tricks

That was an amazing day. I stood on the far jetty and watched those guys for like an hr that day. The video doesnt do it any justice! Some of those waves could have fit my truck inside the barrel. Nice footage!

Being from Northwest part of O'ahu and seeing these waves in Florida and the style of riding from the locals boys you can tell there not use to these kinds of swells...Charge um bra!

last barrel - WORLD CLASS!
Last barrel was epic, right up there with my time at Pipe and Backdoor.
this was by no means a normal swell, the waves moved in soooo fast it was nearly impossible to paddle into a wave on saturday and sunday. there was also easily 12ft sets coming through. Gnarliest waves I ever seen in florida!

There have been comparable waves on the WSL championship tour stops. I watch all the CT events every year… I’m a 30 year surfer from 1st St Nags Head, etc now on the gulf but 3 hours from space coast. Anyways… there is another video of seeing into the barrel. It definitely an epic barrel and surfing skills.

Thanks Dasher. This is a historic video. I'm going to try to put together project at a spooky spot in N.E. during Bill, the swell maxed in the wee hours on August 23, 2009, and Ruggles was showing descending waves. but, a few captured Bill at 'peak' further north when it reached Maine. the secret Point in Acadia was looking like (12~15 foot Waimea). i have experience towng in Mexico. Anyone who want's to tow behind my ski, please contact..... need to get 2 or 3 ski's and footage... links below.
