I did 2 years of college, had a 3.9 GPA, on presidents honor roll, got several coding certifications and couldn't get a job for more than 35K AND they wanted me to be in office. I also have managerial experience and 20 yrs in HR. I went back to working in HR and make a LOT more than that. I was willing to work hard and work my way up but not for 35K a year.
I got a degree in medical billing and coding over a year ago and wasn't able to get a job cause I only have the MCBC cert. It costs hundreds of dollars for code books, membership, and certification for AHIMA or AAPC. It was way more in-depth than I thought it would be. You must review the patient's charts and tests to find the right diagnosis and then figure out the right order if there are multiple symptoms.
It’s also WHOM you know with What we know. (Sad) I didn’t use mine, but for knowledge purposes only. Myself have way too many bodily injuries with surgeries.
It was way different than I thought it would be. When I started I had no idea I would need to learn all the medical terminology, every part in the body, healthcare laws, medical regulations, different insurance rules, informatics, statistics, etc etc. Honestly i felt like i was training to be a nurse, lawyer, and IT all in one!! It is HARD!!
They do not pay medical coder enough money, there is a lack of respect, the work environment is toxic and unprofessional. and racism is a big factor in their being a shortage. Any of the other Allied health fields pay more and are more respect. Coder gets just enough in pay raises to keep them just above the poverty line.
She is passing on information. If this opportunity is not what you are looking for, move on. Its obvious you need assistance finding work or a work at home hustle or you wouldn't be here. What are you doing to bring forth opportunities to assist those looking for an opportunity?
I work in medical coding. It is not easy to get a job in this industry unless you have someone give you an opportunity for training to get in or can be an intern somewhere free. Even with a certification if you have no experience they will not hire you and you will have to take a coding test for the job.
Yep, exactly. I’ve worked in healthcare for 18 years (not as a coder), but even other billing office positions they want experience. Definitely have to start at the very bottom unless you get lucky .
Oh, Dear Odetta, I have subscribed to your channel because I really like the content of your past videos but this video you didn't do ample research for this topic!!!!!!. These schools will take your money and they will train you. Although, you won't be able to get the job you just studied and certified for!!! I don't mean to be rude by any means, but this is just a video to put out a video. There is a huge amount of people that have obtained certifications for these jobs but have not landed a job 2, 3, and 4 years later. People please don't waste your money down this career path!!!!!!! It all sounds good, but it isn't. I have even renewed my certifications year after year to no avail. My husbands a nurse and they are always shorthanded, I would say put the time and money towards that education/career!
Medical coding doesn’t require a degree; that’s a known fact; however, you must attend trade/technical school which can take up to 1 year. Some of them require experience and be certified to get hired. Just a high school diploma is not enough.
I got hired with just a high school diploma in south Florida. I put on my resume I had experience but I only saw UA-cam videos on what to say lol so maybe different places need different credentials.
Yeah your right because here in Nashville,TN Im about to start school for medical coding and billing and you cant get a job without this degree. I have a highschool diploma but not any college degrees and the only way i will get hired is if i get this degree and the school im going through helps you get a job afterwards
Hey Odetta Andrew from Trinidad here...Just want to say keep up the great work that you're doing your videos are excellent and very professionally relayed...I really admire you thanks
Sorry I’m not trying to discourage anyone who wants to improve their finance. I’m talking from experience. I have an associate with certificate in medical coding. Try putting a place that’s now closed or have your best friend answer for your last supervisor phone number I always put what ever job I’m looking for on my resume before I apply even if I never did it. It’s the only way you get a fair chance.

It’s not impossible. You don’t need a college degree to be a front end or back in software engineer. You don’t need a college degree to be a truck driver, electrician, or a plumber. I made $100,000 a year as a bartender when I before I graduated from college. In cities, like New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, an executive assistant can make over $100,000. $100,000 is the “new poor” in America.

For coding/programming jobs certificates are pretty useless. It’s all about your portfolio and ability to pass the technical interview
It depends on what type of coding and your experience a friend on mine made $40 an hour as an inpatient trauma coder

To get certified is like taking the board of exam for doctors. Its also a continuing education because one have to be updated with changes.
I know because I do it. Medical Coders are really in demand but the real money is in informatics.

Since meeting Expert Faith, I now agree that with an expert managing your portfolio, the rate of profit is high, with less risk.
