This is once again an episode that we filmed at one of our meetups in Berlin. We met many of our viewers there, most of whom live in Germany. We wanted to know from them: What do you miss about your home country? The answers we get are about food, weather, humour and more.

@@alevez2004 I was surprised when she said "Schmerzmittel", because in Germany you don't even need a prescription for Paracetamol, Aspirin and Ibuprofen, if I remember correctly. Also, I think it's wonderful that a doctor generally has to double check whether it's a good idea for you to take hard drugs (medication). The fact that people, who are used to making their own decisions (drug-wise), find that annoying, kind of proves the necessity of doctors having an eye on their consumption. Many drugs are addictive and all drugs are potentially dangerous. Oh, well. Cultures differ and that's a wonderful thing, all in all, isn't it?

After living many years here, in Germany, a depression has hit hard now. I miss happy people... smiles and spontaneity.

I feel the same... I miss happy people and I miss the spontaneous goodwill from people. Maybe it's because my German isn't good enough but it has been really hard to just simply talk and laugh with random people. I really miss the feeling of it.

When I lived in Germany, and coming from a Latin country, I also missed many things like those said here, like being more spontaneous, friendliness and intensity. Now that I am back in my country, though, there are several things I miss about Germany that maybe the interviewees shouldn't take for granted: safety, respect, speaking sincerely to your face (much better than being fake-nice and then talking bad behind your back), minding one's business, friendships that are harder to make but which in turn are long-lasting, oh, and yes, believe me if you can, the cool (but not grey!) weather (speaking from an unbearable 40 degrees right now)! And summer is absolutely glorious in Germany too. Last but not least, I really miss Hanuta..lol! Much love to schönes Bonn, ich vermisse es

As half german/ half indonesian who was born and raised in germany. I can say that in germany I miss the happiness and friendliness of the people in indonesia. The indonesians have not so much money like the germans, but they are more satisfied with their life.
In germany every focus is on work and money. I used to be a really open person, but most of the germans are cold and private. Of course not everyone, but the majority of the people.

People touching and hugging and kissing! When living in Germany and Austria that was what I most missed! I could adapt to everything else, but not “properly” greeting people was the hardest for me. In Austria my Austrian friends understood that and they started hugging me and kissing me, they were very receptive but Germans acted as if I had lepracy when I would forget and accidentally try to kiss them on the cheek.
Also not smiling at people you pass by is hard for me! Again different in Austria. I still remember an elderly Austrian gentleman greeting me and he made my day!!! Love being randomly smiled at and greeted by random strangers!

@@u.4499 a southern European country where I kiss my parents twice when I wake up, then kissed them twice on the cheek when I say goodbye to them, then again when I get home and then again when I go to bed. Then I also kiss and hug friends, grandparents, relatives, acquaintances of parents and siblings. You don’t kiss priests and doctors and teachers and store clerks you don’t know. Otherwise you kiss everyone in PORTUGAL (to answer your question).

In meiner Ausbildung lerne ich einen Mitschüler aus Guinea kennen er sagte, dass es uns hier so gut geht, alle sind sicher, man findet Arbeit und wird relativ gut entlohnt, trotzdem hatte er noch nie so schlecht gelaunte Menschen durch die Straßen laufen sehen.
Wieso sind Menschen in armen Ländern glücklicher als wir hier?
Die ukranische Dame dass ihre Hunde vermisst, wie traurig es sein muss, kann ich mir nur vorschlagen. Ich wünschte sie kann ihren lieben Hunden bald wieder treffen! ❤

Ich hatte in der schule auch eine schlechte Zensur in deutsch und ja es stimmt wenn man sich irgendwie verständigen kann macht das zusammen sein schon mehr spaß 😅🎉
I had to go to Germany on placement as part of my uni course. I missed myself the most. To fit in I had to become like the other people. I felt like a rotten impostor and it was exhausting.

@@izzyrov5814 No, you cannot. In Germany, you must be the same as everyone else and even then you do not belong. You will always be an outsider. Any time you have happiness, a German will remind you of how the world is coming to an end very shortly. It's true!!!

It's very interesting how each of these people keep their accents to some extent. The Italian girl clearly had the Italian language "rhythm" as well as the Japanese guy with those soft and short Japanese sounds.
I've lived in Germany since 2020, but every time I open my mouth people still react: 'Oh, you're from Holland!' (and then they tell me stories about holidays at the beach, cycling adventures and cheese market experiences). It's okay though. I'm 45 and I know I'll never get rid of my accent. Sometimes I even feel it gets worse over time! To be fair, when Germans in the Netherlands speak our language, we recognize them straight away as well.
@@sandravt2168 It is very nice to have a distinct accent that says something about you, your culture, and who you are! These are not my words but lessons that I´ve learned in the Netherlands from my Dutch friends. Probably I will never have a Dutch accent and it´s ok, however, sometimes ppl ask which part of the country I´m coming from. It is very interesting that the Dutch have so many accents in such a small country. You also have many funny and weird things, I love it here, however, I miss my country too.
The polish guy however, at least to my ears, had no accent at all. And he masters the language wonderfully.

Ich kann dir versichern, dass wir deutschen genauso über die Deutsche Bahn denken wie du. Ich habe schon mal Densha de go gespielt und das kann man mit der DB einfach gar nicht vergleichen 😂
Die deutschen züge dürfen nicht einmal in die Schweiz rein, weil sie sonst deren Fahrplan ruinieren würden. 😅
Die japanischen Züge sind wahrscheinlich die pünktlichsten auf der Welt, sauberer sind sie auf jeden Fall. Die ganzen Klischees über Deutschland sind entweder übertrieben negativ oder übertrieben positiv, wir sind weder ein Haufen agressiver Barbaren noch die überpünktlichen Meisteringenieure die alles perfekt machen...

glückliche, freundliche und offene Leute, Kultur, Mentalität und Gesellschaft, was mir in DE immer fehlen! Ich sehe sie als Freunde, aber sie mich als Fremde, dann habe ich meine Tür wieder zugemacht und nie wieder aufmachen, weil es sich nie lohnt! 😂

Ich bin ecuadorianische, so ich habe die gleiche Meinung von der Frau, die in diesem Video Ecuador dargestellt hat, unsere Kultur und Biodiversität sind wirklich sehr wunderbar. Gute Frage, jedoch nimmt man diese Wahl weil heutzutage die Situation in Süden Amerika läuft sehr schlecht in verschiedenen Bereichen. Obwohl im allen Länder es schlecht geht aber genauso momentan denke ich, man hat mehr Möglichkeiten zu arbeiten und zu studieren in Europa.
@geranienbaum Wegen Leuten mit Fragen wie die ihre. Nein, ich als Deutscher sehe das auch so. Es geht uns gut in diesem Land. Aber verglichen mit vielen anderen Ländern, sind mehr Menschen grimmig und schlecht gelaunt. Das ist einfach die Mentalität. Dafür laufen in anderen Ländern andere Dinge nicht.
I think those two wonderful people achieve more than multiple government agencies combined. This is so important for people to be received, understood and feel a part of society. This kinds of meetups not only improve peoples ability to communicate but also integrate people into society.

Its easy to imagine why and how some immigrants find themselves in "bad" company, because at least it(the environment) "gets them"

People who said they miss cars, easy access to drugs and being able to make much noise at their apartments. This is exactly why I moved to Germany😅In Berlin I have pedestrian-friendly comfortable streets, my German doctors don't make me addicted to drugs and I can properly relax in my apartment without being disturbed : )
Vielen Dank, Easy German, für dieses neue und sehr interessante Programm das mir ermöglicht hat, mich selbst zu hinterfragen (als Französin aus Marseille - aber aus einer elsässischen Familie)...
Ich glaube dass ich, seit meiner frühesten Kindheit (bin nicht jung !...) nichts, weder in Süd-Deutschland noch in Österreich, vermisst habe... Ich habe mich dort immer ganz heim gefühlt !...Habe immer tolle Erfahrungen gemacht : Menschen mit vielen Freundlichkeit, Fröhlichkeit, Lachen (mit - oder ohne gemeinsamen Bier !!!)...
Mir hat immer die deutsche Strenge gefällt (Pünktlichkeit, Sauberkeit, usw...) und die ganze deutsche Seele (durch Musik und Volkslieder (Z.B. : Heino ! nicht modern, aber deutsch !), Literatur, Poesie, Kochen und das göttliche deutsche Gebäck !)
Das Klima ist mir kein Problem... Und was die administrativen Komplikationen betrifft, gibt es die gleichen Schweren in Frankreich - vielleicht noch schlimmeren !
Aber, sehr interessant zu hören wie viele Leute so viel vermissen können....
Auch : mitgefühlen Gedanken für die Ukrainische Dame...
Ich vermisse am meisten Bosporus in Istanbul, mit einem Schiff zwischen Kontinenten zu fahren, den Möwen "simit", also was zu essen zu werfen. Und auch unsere Tee Kultur ist ganz besonders, Tee ist für uns etwas, das die Leute zusammenbringt, und weil es in einer grossen Teekanne vorbereitet und in kleinen Tassen serviert wird, dauert das Gesprach langer und das macht spass.

Die Fragen sind toll, weil man mit den Menschen auf Augenhöhe geht und die guten Seiten anderer Länder kennenlernt und sich daran ein Vorbild nehmen kann bzw sich dadurch dann zu besserem motiviert.

Thats really a great topic, also for me as a German teacher from Austria (who worked in Italy in the South of France), its also a good topic for the lessons..... I miss the sun in the winter too, its too foggy and grey, which affects my mood. And its imo harder in the German speaking countries to find (warm-hearted) people who you can (also spontaneously) meet after work and have eg a drink with them.

I miss the warm hearteness and kindness of the people from my home country. I miss that I could just ask for help spontaneously from my neighbors. I miss that I could just come up and talk to people and make jokes just because we have time. I miss that I don't get stared at and snubbed when I go alone to doctor's appointments and other gatherings. I miss being included in a family that accepts me. Life as an asian in Germany, is very lonely. My husband's family, are so serious, like you're at a cemetery.

I miss my easy days. Coming to Germany feels like starting all over again from the scratch. It is not just like being new grad or something. It is worse. You cannot communicate as people do. You struggle each and every day. Even an easy task such as buying meat can be hard and stressful. It is like being 5 again in your 30s.

Ich vermute, dass es darauf abzielt, dass vieles was in den USA nicht verschreibungspflichtig ist, hier eben nur gegen Rezept erhältlich ist. Möglicherweise ist die Lady auf ein Medikament angewiesen welches sie in den USA einfach einkaufen konnte, ohne Rezept....

Yes. I’m really looking forward to it. For one, it’s hard to find someone from the west coast that talks about mainland Europe; secondly, all the others tend to make it too formal, sitting in front of the camera and starting lecturing ABC. If only you could do some casual street views, daily activities videos, or driving on the highway videos, that would be great! For example, going to a supermarket and buying groceries. How is it? What’s the difference compared to the west coast and exit. Or travelling on the highway to different regions or even countries and how it’s like. Oh my, I can’t wait to know.

Because I never dont have any vlogging experience and was too shy in the past . Now Im in my 50s, I feel I cant let this one stone unturned in my life, too old to be shy , Im just going to free-style it. Make it very practical and spontaneous the way I see it . I’m a very beginner of German language and already struggling with this language..😭 I’m sooo impressed the fact that everyone speaks German fluently and beautifully…🥺 Hope I’ll be like them someday…😭😖
I've never been to Germany but I have a friend from there, he was a very great friend even when we only talked online and when he knew i was depressed he once sent me a box of chocolate 🍫
I also miss Konbini. The food at Konbini is always fresh, unlike at Kiosks where there is more packaged artificial food. Japan and Taiwan, good job!

Schönes Video. Sehr interessant. Also vor vielen Jahren schon habe ich nur ein Jahr in Österreich gelebt, ich komme aus Mexiko, und damals vermisste ich das Essen und meine Familie natürlich. Am Ende mochte ich in Österreich bleiben, weil in Kärnten verliebt habe, aber ich musste zurückkehren, und also es ist immer schwer, ich vermisse die Alpen, den Wald, wandern... 😊 ganz normal

Was genau ist "Achu"? ☺
Oh ja! Dabei handelt es sich um zerstoßene "Cocoyams" mit gelber Suppe ( eine Mischung aus Palmöl und gekochtem Fleischwasser und anderen Zutaten 🤤), dazu eine Vielzahl an Fleisch und Fisch. Begleitet von viel Gemüse, "Egusi Pouding", "Gadern eggs", Pfeffer und natürlich etwas Rotes oder Palmwein zur Seite.

Ich finde die Menschen in Deutschland freundlich und auch offen... wenn man es selbst auch ist. Was erwarten manche Leute denn? Das sie dauernd mit Freundlichkeit überschüttet werden?
Zumal Deutsche oft herzlicher/realer sind als gewisse "herzliche" Kulturen. Das ist aber eben die gestörte Selbstwahrnehmung, wenn man als Außenseiter mit schlechten Sprachkenntnissen auswandert.

Of course we always miss something about our homeland. But we shouldn't complain about other countries' culture, tradition, and behavior of people. That's the way it is there. I should adapt to the culture if I want to stay.

I miss the English humour, the ready meals from M&S and Waitrose. They have nothing like that here , any ready meals you do get , that I have tried are only one degree above unpleasant.
I miss smiling bus drivers , decent customer service in shops and friendly dentists and nurses .
I miss the smell of the English countryside and the noises of the birds. I miss hedgerows and twisty one way lanes that also go up and down. I miss styles and creaky gates.
Most of all I miss feeling connected to the society around me.
Often strangers wonder why Im talking to them the whole time that Im talking to them unless its for a perfunctory thing like directions, or I feel them more interested in judging me than they are interested and happy to be socialising and connecting. They stare at my shoes or an out of place hair and make me feel like I have no place existing. In England everyone just chats to everyone else at bus stops, supermarket queues etc As a result, I no longer talk to anyone and havent made any friends in the 12 years Ive been here.

Ich komme aus Peru und wohne in München seit fast sechs Jahre… ich würde gute Leute mitbringen, die die hohe Lebensqualität hier schätzen. Es ist so nervig und ein bisschen traurig zu sehen, dass viele Leute unglücklich oder frustiert hier leben, weil alles nicht 100% perfekt ist. :/

Ja, weil man eben des Todes auffällt, wenn man in Deutschland in dem "normalsten" Outfit rumläuft, welches ne grelle oder kräftige Farbe hat. Abgesehen davon ist auch alles grau, schwarz, braun in den Läden

Ich komm aus Aserbaidchan und lerne seit 5 Monaten Deutsch aus eurem Videos . Wenn ich in Deutschland wohnen würde, dann wollte ich Heiß und Humor hier mitbringen
Das war ein interessantes Thema mit Leute aus verschiedenen Ländern unterhalten und auch ideen austauschen aber ich glaube die meisten Leute sprechen über die Würze 😊 ich denke man muss diese Dinge mitbringen wenn er nach Deutschland reisen möchtet.
Ich wohne in Deutschland schon seit eineinhalb Jahren, und natürlich vermisse ich meine Heimat noch, vor allem meine Freunde, Familie, Essen und vieles mehr, aber je länger ich in Deutschland wohne, desto wohler fühle ich mich sehr, weil ich einfach daran gewöhne, dass mein Leben nun anders ist. Aber eine Sache, die mir hier wirklich fehlt, ist die Gepäckaufbewahrung im Supermarkt!
Bei uns ist es normal, dass wir nach der Arbeit/Schule/Uni einkaufen gehen und unsere Sachen in Gepäckaufbewahrung lassen. In Deutschland ist es leider nicht der Fall! Immer wenn man einkauft geht und etwas wie Tasche oder Rücksack dabei hat, muss das mit in den Supermarkt nehmen und damit herumlaufen. Das ist finde ich einfach nicht praktisch und vermisse es sehr!

I would bring culture of people having at least 3 love languages. My mom have all 5 and no day in my life I doubted that she loves me, even if we fight. Seems here "words of affirmation" and "physical touch" are most common, but its doesn't fullfill someone needs (don't encounter many happy people).
In my country people usually have at least 4, and express them like every week, so its considered normal.
So many problems in this world wouldn't exist if people just loved and cared for each other, not only about themselves
