#4 - Hyperthermia. That happened to me once; because I was in Boy Scouts I'd studied 1st aid & recognized the signs of heat stroke immediately. I was able to get help & start treatment on myself. Ever since, I never go out in summer without a canteen of water, rehydration salts & a boonie hat that I ALWAYS wear. Wide brimmed hats in summer are a must!

I suffered a sun stroke as a child
Spent an entire swelteringly hot summer day (in Texas) at a local public swimming pool at a school. Being poor I only had money to get in and get a locker. Luckily we could drink free water from a fountain but I did not do that nearly enough.
Walked home (maybe two miles) and got home near dark and after I walked in I told my mom I did not feel well. She felt my forehead and ran off to get a damp rag and before she returned I feinted hitting my noggin on the corner of a dresser, knocking me clean out.
I woke up later with all my clothes off and wet towels wrapped all around me.
      Oh yeah; I lived…

LOL I wish I could upvote this more than once.
Minimal recommendations are for 1 Chemical Fire Extinguisher in you house, normally found under your sink. I'm a little old, so I know the fire triangle. Heat, Fuel, Oxygen.
Alpha - Anything that creates an ash. Think a campfire. Water can put it out (disabling Fuel, removing Heat.) A Chemical or Powder Extinguisher will do this also.
Beta - Liquid, i.e. Gas or Grease. Smother it. Water will only make it worse. Again, Chemical or Powder.
Charlie - Electrical. Secure power. Know where your Primary Means of Disconnect is. That one big breaker in your panel box? Some houses don't have that, freaking slap every breaker off. You may have a disconnect outside your house next to the Meter Base. I don't recommend this, but worst case, cut the safety seal and remove the cover to the meter base. Using both hands on the side of the meter, wiggle it up and down while pulling out, removing the meter and disconnecting power. This is LAST Ditch, you should consider escaping before doing this. Once Power is secured, the fire becomes an Alpha or maybe Bravo.
Delta - Metal. You aren't going to put that out unless you have Halon, and even then, that won't last in an open environment. Think of a Flare. Discard it if you can, isolate the area and logically escape.
Having said this, 1 Extinguisher is not enough. Put one in every bathroom, in your garage, in your car. Check them on a regular basis, just like the rest of your preps.
Go to your local Fire Department and see if they have classes, or if someone might be willing to sit down with you.
    - Source - Third Level trained Sailor with 6 years of training. The Navy has been (or was, I don't know about now) with fire ever since the USS Forrestal.
I've covered Electrical above, but learn the location of your Primary Means of Disconnect. I am currently an Electrician and last year was connected to a hot neutral underneath a house. My partner immediately ran to the panel box and killed the entire house. Do not attempt to use water, nor on a grease fire. Kill power and then deal with the possible Alpha or Bravo. (see above).
In a weather disaster, a lost neutral is the most dangerous situation. This is the center tap to the transformer and if you lose this, the actual voltage draw on a leg will increase if they aren't balanced. And trust me, I've never seen balanced legs in twenty years. This will destroy your electronics and creates a fire hazard.
Flooding. This is probably the only thing I agree with on Bear Grills. Do not enter flooded waters that are moving. You don't know what's under the water or what's rushing towards you. Even still water, you can't see that far. Play the 'Floor is Lava' game.
Drinking water. You may think it's bulky, but I have water stored behind doors, under end tables, in closets. I don't have it yet, but I'm looking into a bathtub water bag. It wasn't mentioned (I don't think) but boiling water is prudent even with everything else.
Food - it might be a little late now, but start spending $20-50 a week on shelf stable, long life foods. And think about 'Bugging In' and 'Bugging out'. Bug in food can be prepared but Bug Out should be ready to eat, with or without heating. Many smart people have told me to store what you will eat. Don't buy Lima beans if you don't like them. Count your calories and pay attention to diversity in your food groups. I don;t have land to Garden so Sootch, I hope you might accept me when things go down (just kidding, I'm off to Arkansas.)
Bug in. be prepared to make your house uninviting, or more uninteresting. Black Out curtains, even plywood pre cut in your garage. Make sure you have an exist on every side, preferably with at least some concealment.
Bug out. Make sure you are ready to leave in 30 seconds, maybe less, maybe more depending on the situation. A GHB in your vehicle, a BOB packed and ready. Have an INCH bag (or two) if you have time. Concerning water, it would take me about 20 seconds to fill a shoulder strap cooler with 160 ounces of frozen and chilled water on my way out.
Weapons - people, you'll have to decide that for yourselves. Personally I carry a Swiss Army knife and a folding knife on my belt. I have a full tang knife and a machete strapped to my BOB. You don't need to know what guns I have, but my advice there is to limit your calibers to as few as possible so you aren't carrying a lot of mixed ammunition.
    Nukes are like Tornadoes.
Diseases, invisible. I do not go anywhere crowded without protection. That's my personal choice.
Anyway, I've rambled enough. Thank you for the topics you covered,
    God Bless and Blue Skies!

There is also hypernutremia, which is a condition where you flush the electrolytes out of your body. I've been in the hospital for that and people have died with gallons of water at hand because of it. So not just fluid, but electrolyte replacement, must be accounted for in hot weather.

Well, I started my garden but it's alot of learning involved. Between the bugs and critters the garden isn't doing very well to begin with but I do have peas about 4 and 5 inches tall!!! And that's exciting! One valuable lesson I've learned is, you don't have to go buy bags and bags of vegetable garden soil. Making my own compost now with pine needles, grass clippings and pretty much anything that break down. I feel like I've already waited for a crisis to start all of this.

06:01 You absolutely do have a propensity to dehydrate, if you've dehydrated once. I have dehydrated three times in my life. I am 61 years old. Twice, in the Army, and, once in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike in 2008 Galveston County, Texas, when life was quite tough for weeks after. Each time, totally unexpected. Another problem with dehydration is that it becomes quite difficult to hit a vein for an IV.

I prioritized my dangers some time ago. Live in a heavily populated metropolitan area with little natural water and it is arid, without wood.
    1. put a sprinkler system on the roof of the house and garage. Obviously if the water is off, I am toast.
    2. keep the dental and medical work up to par.
    3. stored quite a bit of water, but I will be in trouble after a few weeks.
    4. extra comforters, extra coats from Goodwill.
    5. a year's supply of vitamins and minerals.
    6. situational awareness - I know the resources in the neighborhood.
There is no way to be immunized against traditional waterborne diseases. However, you can sterilize your drinking water through simple homemade two two liter bottle solar stills - look it up. They work with salt water, urine, as well.

Two notes about the last subject, fire; first is Dave Canterbury's home catching fire. Everyone got out quickly and all survived. He's trying to rebuild as we speak/type. Second, forty+ years ago my aunt walked into her apartment and discovered a couch on fire. It was found that an extension cord underneath had frayed and ignited a rug. She tried to put the fire out, but succeeded in only burning her arms and inhaling fumes from the cushions and covering fabrics, all plastics. She must've realized it wasn't working and tried to escape through the back door, which is where firefighters found her (she'd passed the front door where she'd entered). The news crews made it to the scene and filmed her body being wheeled out on a gurney, which was broadcasted for all to see, including yours truly. Strike one against MSM for me.
She died of smoke inhalation. Had she just bailed and called EMS she'd have lived a lot longer. As it was, four boys had to grow up without their mom. A father, mother, siblings and family had to come to terms with death a lot quicker, and deal with the aftermath. Just get out. Everything material, as Mr. Canterbury stated, can be replaced. Flesh and blood lost is gone forever. My cousins had to grow up much faster than needed. They're fine now.
I've experienced heat exhaustion three times, and all were preventable. I'm prone to symptoms of dehydration even if I don't drink some water soon after getting up in the morning at times, and continue to hydrate. I like alkaline water for my acid reflux problems, and the taste is an added bonus. I still take an OTC med. This, I guess, goes towards having the items on hand for your particular medical conditions.
I expanded my garden this year......really, I got back into it and made it bigger. I may do more next year, as I've started planning for next year's expansion. Don't tell my wife.

I've just started watching prepping advice videos. Most of them say to have a good supply of prescription medecine. I don't know about anyone else, but of all our prescriptions (and my hubby and I have many between the 2 of us), exactly zero are available in more than a 30-day supply. If I call even 3 days too early for a refill, the pharmacy denies the refill and tells me to call back in 3 days. How does one get a 6-month supply of prescription medecine? And what good is it if the medecine expires before a disaster occurs?

    In a true SHTF situation.
Killing a deer for just you is a massive waste of resources. Do it if the choice is not to eat or die but if you can not use at least 3/4 of the animal before it goes bad then you wasted it.
You might want to be able to use the skins also.
Learn how to harvest sinew. It makes good rope.
For just one person there are usually plenty of smaller animals that are far more cost efficient at providing food. Rabbits, Squirrels, Raccoons, Possums,
Also depending on your location and whether or not someone is still taking care of them.
    1. There are animals at the zoo. It would probably be a good idea if somebody went and killed the predators, snakes, and deadly stuff so they do not escape and start eating you.
Instead of killing the game animals at first chance releasing them into the wild to procreate would add new species of animals for your future generations to hunt.
    2. As an added source of food. Go to the local Tyson chicken plant. Chickens are long term food production facility.
    3. There are also farms and ranches that may be unattended. That will have goats, sheep, pigs, cows. Depending on how long the grid is down and whether or not someone is living on those farms.
Some of those farms and ranches might be occupied and may need your help. As a survival gig you might choose to help out some other people who might need your skills or labor.
You might learn skills you do not have. Having a community to help you survive is essential because none of us know it all.
I do not condone stealing from or killing anyone to take their property.
If that is your plan then you do not believe the ideals of the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence.
Another source of food that many people overlook and I would only use as a last resort are dog and cat.
